ASEAN can only be built on trust. For the region to succeed in realizing its vision of one community, one identity, we – the private sector, the public sector and the people of ASEAN – must transcend nationalism and embrace regionalism. The World Economic Forum can provide essential help and guidance to ASEAN in this quest through its global initiatives and incredible communities.

Inspired to lead: Regional Partners

For more than 40 years, the World Economic Forum has shaped the regional agenda through meetings, reports and initiatives. The Regional Partnership Community brings together the sharpest minds and strongest drivers in the region. Regional Partners are the foremost business and international institutions; global citizens committed to leading regional economic and social development.

As they collectively address complex topics, and draw closely on the Forum’s resources and communities, Partners play a critical role in formulating regional solutions that inform, inspire and deliver impact.

Regional Business Councils: the power to transform

Each Regional Partner joins the Regional Business Council, an elite advisory body made up of influential and respected leaders, which represents the collective interests of the region. The Council is at the heart of the Regional Partners Programme. Regional Partners work within the Council to identify the key transformations in the region, shape an agreed agenda and determine the themes and objectives of each yearly regional meeting.

One programme, three pillars

The framework of the programme spans three pillars: Interaction, Insight and Impact.

1 Interaction Meet the most influential regional leaders and representatives. The regional partners programme culminates in a Regional Summit, a platform from which organizations can extend their reach and network across geographies, sectors or industries.

2 Insight Contribute to region-specific insights to shape a coherent regional agenda – whether at the Regional Summit or by interacting with the Forum throughout the year.

3 Impact Design impactful initiatives that respond to pressing issues faced by organizations and communities.

Regional Partner Programmes are active in:

– Africa– East Asia– Eurasia– Europe– Japan– Latin America– Middle East and North Africa– South Asia

I became a Regional Partner because the partnership provides a platform to drive the regional economic, social and business agenda and to play a role in defining the future of the region.

1. Interaction: An exclusive dialogue

Regional Partners have privileged interaction with the Forum’s multistakeholder communities, comprising technology and media leaders, social entrepreneurs, individuals from civil society and international organizations, public figures and policy-makers. Partners exchange ideas with leaders across all sectors in a privileged, trust-based context.

A powerful platform to convene such interaction is the regional meeting, the culmination of a year-round calendar of global and regional events, country and thematic roundtables and virtual meetings. The Regional Summit provides enhanced engagement, visibility and recognition to Regional Partners and their leadership teams.

TopLink ... digital interaction and collaboration The new “Digital Davos”, TopLink, is the World Economic Forum’s platform for interaction and collaboration developed exclusively for Forum Members and constituents. On TopLink, peers interact and collaborate from anywhere, on any device, accessing customized content from the Forum’s diverse communities and cooperating on the Forum’s global projects. TopLink is designed to enable Members and constituents to work with each other and the Forum to co-design meeting programmes and other activities. It features exclusive Forum content and tools such as Presidential Briefings, Transformation Mapping, the Global Agenda Platform and the Forum Academy. TopLink offers frequent news updates and insights, encourages transparency, and enables Members to continue their conversations online.

Crucially, Regional Partners interact with a variety of Forum communities:

Global Business Leaders Top executives from the world’s foremost global companies, selected for their alignment with the Forum’s commitment to improving the state of the world. From diverse industries and sectors, these leaders are primed to provide input on the most important global and industry issues, offering new perspectives to Regional Partners.

New Champions The next generation of pioneers, disruptors, entrepreneurs and innovators. Comprising individuals drawn from Global Growth Companies, Technology Pioneers, Global Shapers, Young Global Leaders and Social Entrepreneurs, the New Champions offer bright new perspectives and innovative ways in which to solve or shape regional issues.

2. Insight: A powerhouse of information

Valuable input from the Forum’s communities serves as a toolbox that Partners can use to design an effective regional agenda and gain a fully rounded perspective on the needs and issues of a region. In turn, Regional Partners play a crucial role in offering concrete insights to the Forum.

1 Global Agenda Council The Network of the Global Agenda Councils is a community of more than 1,600 leaders from government, international organizations, business, civil society and academia who volunteer their time to the world’s foremost intellectual network. Regional Partners benefit from the insights generated by the Global Agenda Councils that bring better understanding of global, regional and industry transformations in a systemic and integrated manner. The Outlook on the Global Agenda, the Network’s flagship publication, provides a top-of-mind perspective on the challenges and opportunities of the coming 12-18 months. It draws on the global intelligence of the Network to offer a comprehensive overview of the world and the challenges we face.

2 Transformation Maps A transformation map is an innovative and powerful visual tool that provides contextual intelligence for Forum Members and helps to shape regional, industry and global agendas. Transformation maps are forward-looking, knowledge-based, systemic tools that illustrate the interconnections among diverse issues and drivers in our increasingly complex world.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is at the forefront of the policy debate in its many countries of operations. Our engagement with the World Economic Forum is a way of both sharing those thoughts and getting the high-level input which helps to spur both mental and product innovation.

3 Some of the reports that Regional Partners frequently draw on include:

a Global Competitiveness Report For more than 30 years, the Global Competitiveness Report has provided CEOs and leaders with important data and analyses that give a comparative overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the business environment in more than 140 countries.

b Human Capital Report The Human Capital Report is a new measure for tracking the development and deployment of human capital around the world. The report is based on an index that provides detailed country rankings across regions and income groups in four critical areas of human capital development.

c Global Gender Gap Report The Global Gender Gap Report provides a framework for capturing the magnitude of gender disparities around the world, and serves as a tool for benchmarking and tracking countries’ gender inequalities based on economic, political, education and health criteria.

3. Impact: From knowledge to action

Regional Partner initiatives allow senior executives to engage for positive impact on society as well as enhance their own organizational and personal development.

These initiatives can take three forms: a strategic dialogue; an agenda-shaping activity; or a partnership for catalysing impact.

Examples of Regional Partners Initiatives include:

Strategic Infrastructure in Africa To enable economic growth and competitiveness, developing infrastructure is one of the top political priorities in Africa. The African Strategic Infrastructure initiative was formally launched in 2012 in partnership with the African Development Bank. The objective of the initiative is to accelerate the implementation of the PIDA (Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa) “Priority Action Plan” programmes and projects by providing direction on Africa’s infrastructure priorities from a private sector perspective. Regional Partners from Africa are involved through the Business Working Group.

Regional Partners are in a unique position to utilize their leadership and involvement with the Forum to create impact – at a community, policy and business level. Reflecting the vision of the World Economic Forum to improve the state of the world, Regional Partners can seize the opportunity to shape and influence local solutions that go a long way to advancing global changes.

New Vision for Arab Employment, MENA Addressing the unemployment challenge in the Arab world is at the forefront of national policy and business agendas. The New Vision for Arab Employment initiative provides a neutral platform, gathering leaders from government, business and civil society seeking to create economic opportunities for young people, finding solutions that can bring about change, innovation and results. Involving the Forum’s Regional Partners, the initiative builds on a two-pronged approach to create employment through public-private partnerships: shaping institutional reform for employment, and scaling entrepreneurial innovations.
