Southeast Asia Research Regional and Information Network (SEARRIN) launched in 2000
• Country members:
– Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines, Lao PDR, Cambodia and USA
• The SEARRIN network is actively involved with the main three themes of GOFC-GOLD:
– Forest Cover Characteristics and Changes of SEA GOFC, LUCC and EOC
– Forest Fire Monitoring and Mapping
– Biophysical Parameters
• Network sustainability issues:
– Webpage only is not enough and also there is no regular update
– To date active network only exist under the secure funding support where it turn to be active and passive from time to time
– No leadership in the network
Future expectation
• Network sustainable functional mechanism??? – Leading agency? GISTDA, China and so on to complement with their existing activity
rather than overlapping
– Thematic groups: • Land cover
• Forest fire
• What is the need for the network to have??? – Local driven ownership of the activities and linkage to evident based decision of the
policy influence
– Leading organization need to be identified
– Need a secretariat group who facilitate the network process
