world
Mystery 3: Why aremathematical laws
linked to the physical
world?
Mystery 1: How did weas conscious human
beings emerge in the
physical world?
Mystery 2: How are
mathematical concepts
‘created’ out of a mental
model?
Three mysteries

Hydroinformatics- a simple definition
is about making best use of
information andcommunication technologies
for manipulating information
to manage water
in the environment
- is about implementing IWRM(integrated water resourcesmanagement)

Our management of water is limited
• We cannot manage water in the
oceans and in the atmosphere – even though we can and do
influence such water
• We manage water best in theartificial (urban/reservoir/ irrigation) systems we create
– and to a lesser extent incatchments, rivers, groundwaterand coastal waters
