Things that worked Things that didn’t work

06-11-16 5th Annual Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Night

148 Fairly good turn-out and well noted now as a PEO event. Photo booth where people could dress up with funny material was popular and featured PEO logo in background; first time we have tried this activity.

Ticket sales were slow until last few days. Didn’t make a profit. Some Executive found a comedian’s material to be offensive, in spite of the comedians having been coached on what was appropriate. Comedian was a Catholic High School teacher. We have not had this problem in 4 previous years of coaching.

06-13-16 Chapter Board Meeting 13 Good turnout, including the Chair of the local OACETT Chapter

06-16-16 Scholarship Committee Meeting

3 Made selections for 2 PEO Scholarships. It is taking a long time to get the final confirmation paperwork from the universities to allow PEO to pay the funds. One student had to pay $10 to get the required document. Universities are using electronic methods of communication with less formality.

07-16-16 Algonquin Radio Observatory Technical Tour

21 Excellent technical tour of the former National Research Council Observatory now restored back to operation by Thoth Technology. We are now in a much better position to promote the site for a future tour.

07-23-16 Joint Ottawa / Algonquin Chapter Group Tour of Diefenbunker

Unknown Ottawa Chapter graciously made space available for Algonquin members (we filled 20 spots last year).

08-04-16 PPE Prep Session 1 Chapter executive member took the initiative to meet personally with any of the 6 local candidates for the Aug 6 PPE exam. No PEO sponsored webinar appears to have been organized in advance of the exam.

Two people requested the coaching session but only one person showed up!

08-29-16 Chapter Board Meeting 13 Finalize the fall program.

06-16-16 Volunteer Appreciation Night 20 Venue and meal was great; cocktail hour was appropriate duration; speeches kept to a minimum; took time to honour Lucky Amarantunga, long-time past chapter executive member who recently passed away.

Was expecting closer to 30 people but there were a lot of last minute cancellations due to very warm weather and people leaving for “early” weekends. Suggest that perhaps event should be scheduled mid-week as opposed to a Thursday night.

06-23-16 Welcome Summer License Presentation

30 Great turnout (sold out). The presentation was on the 4 laning of highway 69 and some of the challenges. Presented a total of 10 licenses

Some last minute licensees made scheduling tricky.

06-29-16 PEO – OACETT Baseball 30 Good turn out. Event came in under budget. Hoping to partner with OSPE as well next year and turn this event into a baseball/barbecue.

Had more room available for Engineers. May need to advertise a little earlier

07-07-16 PEO Golf Tournament 80 The event was well attended. The golf classic remains a favourite.

08-18-16 Cortina Cruise 0 Event cancelled/postponed due to low registration. This is normally a sold out event.
