CurrentuseofmeteorologicalsatelliteinRAIII
• Geostationary Satellite are the basic tool formonitoring the extreme weather for all NMHS ofRAIII.
• Some countries use GOES 13 to broadcastautomatic weather stations.
• Some NMHS use GPM products to monitor dailyand monthly precipitation .
• Specialized center as CPTEC produce usefulinformation like thunderstone track and firedetection.

• Regional Coordination Group on Satellite DataRequirements (SDR) was established by WMO in 2015. Thisgroup is co-chaired by Luiz Machado (Brazil) and DavidBradley (Canada).
• In September 2016, the group met in Curacao with theobjective to prepare the region for using the new satellitegeneration.
• They discussed the strategies to receive data from the newsatellite generation; conducted two surveys; created andupdated the list of satellite data requirements for theregion; and selected the data the users would like toreceive from the new NOAA geostationary.

Needsofeducationandtraining
• NMHS personnel will need specific training to usethe new capabilities of GOES 16.
• We expected the support of NOAA to design andimplement this training courses. RAIII has threeRegional Training Center (RTC) located inArgentina, Brazil and Peru. It has a RTC forhydrology in Venezuela. All this center are opento design specific courses for operational use ofthe new GOES 16 data.

Acknowledges• RAIII on behalf of its all NMHS express their special
gratitude to NOAA for its decision to move the GOES 16 toeast position. This satellite position will help tremendouslyto NMHS of RAIII to improve their monitoring capacity andforecast to support DRR in their countries and strengththeir commitment with society.
• We acknowledge NOAA for improving the bandwidth (from2 to 12 MB) for GNC-A, which will allow to disseminatesome selected channels of GOES 16 and encourage them toconsider the delivery of all bands.
• We appreciate the work of WMO/NOAA VLab activities andencourage them to work with the RTC of ARIII.
