This style, is originate at the 60’s ,Taking Rocksteady ,Rhythm & Blues, Ska, Calipso and tradicional african music..It was born in Jamaica and was transmited by the radio to United States.

Ten years later some new sound began to appear and at the end of the 60’s the band Toots & The Maytals edited a CD that was tituled Do the Reggae’ which is for a lot of people the origin of Jamaica’s reggae.

Actually, the reggae is associated to the religions ceremonies of the Rastafarian culture. The priests are the only who perceive the differences between the reggae and the Rastafarian music “Nyahbinghi”Reggae’s lyrics are against the racism and the discrimination, present some social and politic contents and also sometimes present religious essence but it doesn’t mean that this music is the Rastafarian religion music. Reggae is the popular music in all Jamaica, it’s associated to the marihuanaChris Blackwell in 1970 edited some figures like Bob Marley or Jimmy cliff and this helped this type of music to be more popular.

Yellow represent the richness of their homeland. Green represent the beauty and the vegetation of Ethiopia, the promised land. Sometimes the black color is used to represent the African colors.

The rastafarian colors are green yellow and red. This colors were took int he Garvey movement. The red color represent the rastas church it also symbolize the blood of the martirs who have marked Rastafarian history.

-Reggae colors:

The dreadlocks symbolize the rasta roots. This type of hair represent the Judah Lion. This also symblolize the rebellion against the system and their own hairstyle.

Ganja is considered the "wisdom weed" by Rastafarians, Rastas use it as a part of a religious rite and as a form to get closer to their intern spiritual self, Jah ( their God).

-Ganja:The use of ganja in Jamaica is not unique to Rastafarians. Before they began to use it , ganja was used by herbalists in Jamaica as a medicine. It was also mixed with tobacco for smoking.

-Lion:

The Judah Lion is an important rastafarian symbol. It appears inthe imperial ethiopia flag.It also represents Jesus Christ who in the rastafarian culture is Haile Selassie .This lion represents the struggle and the strength of the Rastafarians against their oppressors.

Bob Marley was a Jamaican musician, guitaristand composer. During his career was thelider, composer and guitaristof many bands.Bob is one of the most known performers of the reggae music and a great promoter of jamaican musicand of the Rastafarianism.

Jimmy Cliff was born the 1st April 1948 in St

Catherine, Jamaica, it's a reggaejamaican musician

famous for songs like “You can get it if you

really want” and for the film “The harder they

come” whos soundtrack helped tu introduce the reggae in the markets of some parts of the world. He also participated in the film “The king lion” with the song “Hakuna

Matata”.

Alpha Blondy was born the 1st January 1953 in Dimbroko, Costa de Marfil. He has singed with The Wailers. The lyrics of his songs express a strong attitude and humor related with the politics. He invented the world democrature(democracy and dictatorship) to define some African governments.His pseudonym Alpha Blondy means “el primer bandido” and he is also known as Bob Marley's inheritor.
