Press Caused many changes:
Literacy increased in Europe
Books became cheaper & easier to make
Peasants began to become educated
Printed Bibles increased the spread of religious ideas and
beliefs

II) Abuses by the Church
Church is getting rich off of indulgences (Ticket to heaven and
for forgiveness of sins)
Becoming caught up in power instead of religious affairs
People believed the Pope decided who went to heaven or hell
Many manors left to the Church

III) Protestant Reformation A) Many Christians wanted to reform
(change) the ChurchB) Martin Luther wrote 95 arguments (Called 95
Thesis) against indulgences and why the church / pope were
corrupt.

III) Protestant ReformationC) Martin Luther believed Christians
could only reach heaven through faith in God and by performing good
deeds.
D) Luther began a new Christian religion, called Protestants,
which did not include the Pope

IV) Calvinism A) John Calvin - religious reformer against the
church
B) Predestination God had already chosen who was going to be
saved and who wasnt.

V) Anglican Church A) Henry wanted the right to have more than
one wife, and divorce them at his will. The Pope refused Henrys
divorce
B) Henry created his own church, the Anglican Church of
England

VI) The Church Fight Back A) Counter-Reformation - Church
fighting back and making changes
