StillwaterYachtClub After43yearsSantaCruzYachtMembersarenowabletoenjoyreciprocalprivilegesattheStillwaterYachtClubinPebbleBeach!!!Therearesomeblackoutdates(suchasAT&TPro/Amtournamentdatesetc.)andyoudoneedaletterofintroductionfromourclubman-ager.Otherthanthat,youareallset!FinallywecansailovertoStillwaterandhaveawarmshowerwhenyougetthere!!(Yesmyboathasnowaterheater)ServiceCharge Startingatthebeginningoftheyear,asmanyofyouknow,wehavegonetoaservicechargemodelatthebar.Manypeoplehaveaskedhowthisaffectsourstaff.Andtheansweris,franklyquitewell.Ourclubmanagerhashadhissalarymodifiedtoincludewhathewouldnormallygetintipsthroughouttheyearandincludesaquarterlybonusbasedontargetedgoals.Ournewbar-tendersaremakingconsiderablymoreperhourthanthey

TheSCYCbartenderswhetherthemanagerfill-ingin,orourparttimebartendersarenotsomefacelessstrangeratabigcitybar/restaurant,theyarefamiliartousmembers,andrapidlybecomeourfriends,theyknowournamesandinterests.WouldyouNOTtipthembecausetheywerenotgivinggoodservice,grumpy,distracted,orslowatsomepoint?OfcoursenotIdon’tknowanymemberswhoreducetipsbecauseofsomeperceivedlackofattention.Mostmembershaverespondedthattheytipveryconsistently.

Many(ifnotmostclubs)havenotippol-icy.Thepolicydrasticallysimplifiesthebarac-countingprocesses,andincreasesmonetarysecurity.Unfortunatelytheclubisabusiness,andaspecialoneatthat,Non-Profitsocialclub,withspecialrequire-mentsregardingmembersandguestthatneedtobeaccountedforanfollowedtomaintaintheNon-Profitstatus-otherfamousclubshavelostthatstatusbybe-inglaxintheiraccounting. Bythetimeyoureadthiswehavelikelyhadourannualworkdayfullofvolunteersthatcomemakeourclubshineandbeserviceabletothehundredsofpeoplewhouseitandparticipateineventsthroughouttheyear.Thankyoutoeachandeveryoneofyou! Thereisalandscapingandlightinggroupthathasbeenplanningthemulti-yeartaskofimprovingthelightingandplantingnativespeciesalongthewalkwaysandhillsidethatalsothriveunderthelargeoaktrees.

JeffandJoshuaandtheSunny’sCateringteamwillbeleavingtheclubduringthemonthofMarchtopursueotheropportunities.Wewishthemwellandthankthemforthemanyenjoyableevents,Fridaydin-nersandWednesdaynightstheyprovidedgreatmeals.Thereplacementcommitteeisinfullswinggettingthenewproviderhiredandupandrunning.StaytunedforupdatesintheTuesdayemailblasts. SuperBowlPotluck Itstartedasabluesky,fairweatherday.RickandDorieGreencametotheclubthattheyhaddecoratedwithcheerful,celebratory,footballdecorationstorecognizethe50thSuperBowl.DoriebroughtinadeliciouschilishepreparedandRickwiththehelpofJohnRyanfireduptheBBQforhotdogsandPolishdogs.Peoplecameinwiththeirpotluckitemsandthegamebegan.Thespiritintheclubwasfullofdelightandexpectationforthe49erstotakechargeandwalkhomewithagrandtrophy.Blueskiesfadedasthe49erslosttotheChiefs.ButtheSuperBowlpotluckwasawonderfulsuccess.WethankRickandDorieGreenforputtingonagreatafternoonattheclub.ThankyoualsotoJoeandSuzyAltmanandMarysePostlewaitefortheirsupport.

ValentinesFridayDinner AcoupleofweeksaftertheSuperBowl,DeSchuylerandTerriFestecametotheclubandfilledthemanteloverthefireplacewithpinklightsandstreamersofheartsfortherecognitionofSt.ValentinesDay.Tablesweredecoratedwithabouquetofgreensandroseswithchocolatehearts.Itwasalovelyeveningsettingforcouplesandfriendstocomeanddinetogether.SunnyCateringputtogetheradeliciousmenutogivetheeveningaspecialflairthatwaswellattended.

CrabFeedNumberOne The2020yearbeganwithanalmost“standingroom”onlycrabfeedonJanuary25th.TheCrabFeedCrew(HomerLighthall,BarbaraBooth,RicDiola,JoeandSuzyAltman,KrisNorth,RickLinkemyer,MatthewCoale,DanandNancyLarson,JoanieGenovese,andBobDeWitt).Itwasaselloutandhugesuccess.Every-oneattendingsaiditwasfantasticandtheyatecrabuntiltheywerestuffed.ThankyoutotheCrabFeedCrewforthesalad,garlicbread,set-up,servingandclean-up.Everyoneworkedsohardtoputthisgreateventtogether.BesureandsignupfortheMarch7thCrabFeed,itwillsellout.

SingleUsePlasticsCommittee LastmonththeSCYCBoardpassedamotiontoworktoreduceandeliminatetheuseofsingleuseplasticinitsdedicationtobeagreenconsciousandenviron-mentalactiveclub.CommodoreJasonLauerfollowedthatupwithestablishingacommitteetobringthemotiontoreality.OnFebruary20th,acommitteeofDirec-torAshleyBasanese,DeniseDiani,MaryCully,Vance

Landis-Carey,andCommitteeleaderRearCommo-doreTomPostlewaitemettobeginthatquest.Atthemeetingthegroupexaminethegoalwithbeginningatodevelopagoodrolloutplan.Theyarelookingatmanysustainablepracticesfortheclub:effec-tiverecycling,usingdishwareandutensils,clothnapkins,compostablegarbageliners.Theyarelookingatdoinganinventoryofhowmuchplasticweuse(bar,kitchen,regattaevents,socialcommittee.Theyarecontactingsomeonetoeducateourcommit-teetohelpdeveloparolloutplanthatwillextendtoallclubmemberswithaclubpresentation.DeniseandMaryarecontactingtotwoorthreeclubstofindouthowtheymanagebecomingandbeingagreencon-sciousandactiveclub.WecallonallclubmemberstobestewardsoftheoceanandearthandbemoreconsciousofreducingandeliminatingtheuseofsingleuseplasticandtoRefuse,Reduce,Reuse,Repurpose,Recycle.(ImagefromTeachersPayTeachers)
