REFRIGERATION, AIR CONDITIONING AND HEAT PUMP (RACHP) ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN JOB / ROLE DESCRIPTION The RACHP Engineering Technician is a specialist occupation involved in planning, preparing and safely carrying out work activities in process, product and space cooling. Knowledge must be transferrable between any of the core activities of refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pumping. The work is carried out in a variety of applications essential for key UK business activities such as food production, product distribution and office climate control. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS It is desirable to achieve this apprenticeship you will need English and Maths at level 2 or GCSE Grade C, and Information Communication Technology at Level 1 or GCSE Grade D. If you do not have these we can organise delivery prior to the apprenticeship commencing. WHAT WILL THE PROGRAMME ENTAIL?Apprentices will study towards the RACHP Engineering Technician qualification, which includes the following knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) - TBC. These will be demonstrated through knowledge tests, practical assignments and submission of a record of work-based activities, followed by an end point assessment.

WHEN WILL THE ASSESSMENTS TAKE PLACE?The employer, advised by the training provider, will decide when the apprentice has demonstrated the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours during the on-programme learning and confirm they are ready to access the End Point Assessment.

The apprentice will also need to have achieved:

• It is desirable to achieve this apprenticeship you will need English and Maths at level 2 or GCSE Grade C, and Information Communication Technology at Level 1 or GCSE Grade D. If you do not have these we can organise delivery prior to the apprenticeship commencing

• All apprentices must achieve a “Level 2 Certificate in F Gas and ODS Regulations Category 1” as this is a legal requirement under the EU F Gas Regulation 517/2014 to work on equipment containing Fluorinated Refrigerants

• Any additional certification or qualifications external to the Apprenticeship must be paid for by the employer and will not be covered by any Apprenticeship Levy or funding.

WHAT IS THE ASSESSMENT?The End Point Assessment tests the expertise built up over the period of the apprenticeship. It includes:

• an on-screen multiple choice examination to assess knowledge

• practical Skills Test to assess the application of skills, knowledge and behaviours under test conditions

• an interview to confirm the ability to apply skills, knowledge and behaviours in the workplace.

WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?An apprenticeship is a real job with training, enabling you to earn whilst you learn. You will gain qualifications, which are recognised worldwide as well as a vast range of job-specific skills.

As an apprentice you will:

• work alongside experienced staff• gain skills specific to your job• earn a wage and receive holiday pay• study towards a qualification either at college

or a training centre for at least one day a week.

IS AN APPRENTICESHIP RIGHT FOR YOU?Apprenticeships in building services are for both women and men aged 16 or over.

To apply for an Apprenticeship you need to be:• aged 16 and over• living in England or working more than 50% of

your time in England• not in full-time education - you can apply

whilst you are still at school but you will need to have left before starting your apprenticeship

• you will need to have an employer before you start an apprenticeship. BESA Training will try to find an employer placement for those that do not have one.
