Judiciary Administration and Operations Townhall April 2014 CE unveiled the Judicial Administration and Operations’ (JAO) three- year Strategic Map to staff of the Supreme Court at a Townhall session on 27 March 2014. The dean of the NUS Faculty of Law, Professor Simon Chesterman, hosted a lunch for CJ Menon and the Bench on 26 March 2014 at the faculty’s campus in Bukit Timah. It presented a great opportunity for the Bench to engage in discourse with members of the legal academia on prevailing legal issues and the administration of justice. VISIT BY DR KARL MACKIE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF CEDR, AND MR DANNY MCFADDEN, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF CEDR ASIA PACIFIC Dr Karl Mackie, CE of Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), International Dispute Resolution Centre, together with Mr Danny McFadden, Managing Director, CEDR Asia Pacific, called on CJ Menon on 24 March 2014, for a discussion on mediation. The President of the Republic of Singapore, acting in his discretion, and in concurrence with the advice of the Prime Minister has re-appointed Mr Chao Hick Tin to sit as a Judge of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Singapore for a further period of two years, with effect from 11 April 2014. Mr See Kee Oon was also appointed as Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court for a term of three years, with effect from 14 April 2014. Welcome to New Deputy CE – Ms Clara Ong welcome Mr Goh Yew Cheong, Court Orderly “Hi! I had previously worked at the Land Transport Authority as an assistant driver. In this current position, I hope to take on new challenges and tasks. On a personal note, I also enjoy reading and expanding my general knowledge.” NUS Law Faculty Judiciary Lunch The Strategic Map marks an important initiative by the JAO to lead manage the Supreme Court’s success outcomes in upholding our Vision to establish and maintain a world class judiciary, and Mission to superintend the administration of justice. The three key success outcomes are: (i) To be a service-oriented and professional judicial administrator (ii) To be a leading and trusted judiciary; (iii) To develop a competent and passionate workforce. The Supreme Court welcomes Ms Clara Ong who has been appointed as the Deputy CE (JAO) with effect from 20 March 2014. Ms Ong will oversee the various judiciary operational matters, especially in the areas of financial stewardship, corporate governance and strategic planning. The thrusts towards the success outcomes are geared towards providing a motivating and nurturing environment for staff, and with it, develop a desired organisational culture that serves to strengthen trust, confidence and the reputation of the Singapore Judiciary. The next few months will see the directorates develop and modify their individual work plans around the thrusts of the JAO’s Strategic Map for the upcoming Supreme Court Work Plan Seminar on 26 June 2014.
