’reflexomat’: The pressure maintaining station solves the toughest expansion control problems

The ’Reflexomat’ is a compressor controlledexpansion tanks with continuous digital-typewater level indication and microprocessorcontrol for heating and cooling applications.With the slightest pressure rise, the air inside the tank is discharged by a solanoidin proportion to the expansion water accomodated within the bag-type diaphragm. When the installation coolsdown, the compressor cuts in preventingloss of system pressure. The bag-type diaphragm is made of a superior quality butyl rubber. The expansion water being seperated from the air means that the waterdoes not come in contact with atmosphericoxygen and that the risk of corrosion due tooxygen in the installation is eliminated.The advanced control unit has state-of-the-art technique which allows you to be controlyour system most optimally.

’reflexomat’ + ’servitec’:the perfect duo!

Possible loss of water due to any leakage in the piping will decrease system efficiency and may entrain air in the system: problems leading to corrosion and to high operatingcost.The addition of filling and degassing device ’servitec’ will insure100 % performance to the heating installation. Thus, monitoring the installation, giving constant degassing under vacuum control in a specially designed spray pipe, automatically refilling the installationwhen necessary. There is no need foradditional complicated air control devices: ’reflexomat’ & ’servitec’ will do the job !

Maintain the pressure, compen-sate the expansion volume

The compressor (A) and the solenoidvalve (B) are activated in such a waythat with an approximate pressureconstancy of ± 0.1 bar, the expansionwater inflow or outflow via expansionline P is compensated in the RG pri-mary vessel. Since the pressure is“stored“ in the expansion vessel (RGprimary vessel) in form of an aircushion, a very soft mode of opera-tion is obtained. ’reflexomat’ with 2 compressorsworks with a load-dependent auto-matic alternating operation and anautomatic malfunction change-over.

Water make-up

The make-up of system-related wa-ter losses is integrated in the ’reflexomat’ control. It takes place independence of the filling level in theRG primary vessel. The fluid levelmeasurement is performed by evaluating the weight of the RG pri-mary vessel. The solenoid valve forthe water make-up and the reflex’fillset’ with water meter and system separator can be ordered as an option. The water make-up is moni-tored by a leak volume control andis interrupted in case of malfunc-tions. The signals of a contact water metercan be evaluated (reflex ’fillset’with contact water meter). The re-flex ’control P’ water make-up sta-tion with integrated pump is avail-able for very high system pressures.

The ’fillset’ with DVGW-tested systemseparator, water meter, dirt pan, shut-off and wall bracket is offered asan accessory to the solenoid valvewith ball valve for the direct connectionto the drinking water system. The’fillset’ is also available with contactwater meter as an option.

This water make-up station withpump and system separating tanksis employed when the water make-up pressure is no longer adequateor a system-separating vessel is required for system isolation ofdrinking water networks.

The control unitguarantees maximum operating comfort. All reflex controls (’variomat’, ’reflexomat’, ’servitec’, ’gigamat’) have been designed according to a uniform design guideline.The solenoid valveis TÜV-tested and consequentlysatisfies the requirements of DIN 4751 T 2 for systems up to 120 °C.

The automatic water make-up has already been included in the ’reflexomat’ control unit. The watermake-up is automatically activated if the level in the RG primary vessel drops below a minimum.

Three versions are available:

The water make-up is performed via a solenoid valve using the inherent pressure of the make-up water. In caseof water make-up from the drinking water system, the reflex ’fillset’ with an integrated DVGW-tested systemseparator must be installed upstream.

The load cell for the fluid level measure-ment must be mounted on the appropriatefoot of the RG primary vessel. To avoid animpairment of the fluid level measurement,flexibly connect the RG primary vessel withthe connection kit supplied.

With multi-boiler systems (→ page 16–17) it is commonpractice to individually protect each boiler with an addition-al expansion vessel and to implement a common boilerand system protection. It must be noted that in case ofshut-offs due to sequential switching of the boiler, the boil-er concerned remains connected at least to one expan-sion vessel. The most favorable connection must alwaysbe established by consulting the boiler manufacturer.

Install the ’reflexomat’ in thereturn between boiler shut-off and boiler, at return temperatures > 70 °C with reflex ’V in-line vessel’.

Adjust the reflex ’control P’water make-up with pump to “level-based control“ whenused in ’reflexomat’ systems.The water make-up is then conducted as a function of the filling level LIS in the RG primary vessel. The 230 Vsignal of the ’reflexomat’ mustbe connected to a floatingcontact on site by way of an interface relay which is con-tained in the delivery.

reflex ’control P’ has an opensystem separation vessel andcan be directly connected tothe drinking water network. The rate of delivery is120–180 l/h with a maximumdelivery pressure of 8.5 bar.

Individual boiler protectionThe appropriate boiler circuitpump is switched off with theburner by way of the tempera-ture control TIC , and the en-gine valve is closed. The boil-er remains connected to the‘reflexomat’. This is the mostfrequent connection for boilerswith a minimum return temper-ature. With the burner witchedoff, the circulation via the boil-er is reliably avoided.

If the water make-up pres-sure is at least 1.3 bar above the final pressure of the ’reflexomat’, the water make-up can be directly performedwith the reflex ’solenoid valvewith ball valve’ without an ad-ditional pump. When the watermake-up is performed fromthe drinking water network,the reflex ’fillset’ must be in-stalled upstream.

If hydraulic systems are to beoptionally operated as sepa-rate systems or as a singlesystem, a “master-slave oper-ation” is required. Examplesare the summer and winteroperation of cooling and heat-ing systems or the intercon-nection of multiple heat gener-ating systems.

In the example, the two ’re-flexomats’ can in interconnect-ed mode (engine valves open)in the master-slave operationcommunicate via the RS 485interface. Thereby, the “mas-ter” assumes the pressuremaintenance, and the “slave”only serves for the volumecompensation. In the isolatedmode (engine valve Mclosed), the two ’reflexomats’are operated independently ofone another as “master” withpressure keeping functionality.

’reflexomat’ and reflex ’servi-tec’ – the ideal connection! Combine the ‘reflexomat’ withthe ‘servitec’ spray tube deaer-ation device. It not only refillsand frees the water make-upwater of dissolved gases, butalso ensures an almost gas-free content water in the sys-tem. Air problems due to freegas bubbles at high points inthe system, in circulatingpumps, or control valves arereliably avoided in this wayand corrosion problems effec-tively pre-empted.

Also the following is a point infavor of the combination of’reflexomat’ and reflex’servitec’: The pressure in thehighly degassed, bubble-freecontent water is “cushioned softly“ by the ’reflexomat’.
