Summer Reading Camp 2016: A Reflection

Summertime may be a time to relax but not for teachers and pupils of Teodoro R. Yangco who spent summer reading and playing. We believe that if kids

don’t read over the summer they can lose much of the learning they gained during the school year. That is why Teodoro R. Yangco !lementary School aligned itself

to the advocacy of the "epartment of !ducation to address the existing problems on reading deficiencies of our learners also to nurture and hone the individual’s

love of reading. Thus administrators teachers parents and school children took advantage of the summer heat to camp out play and read#

The school has been organi$ing Summer Reading %amps for four years now. &nd still everyone showed enthusiasm when they had their meeting to create

the working committees who will take charge of the stage decorations program and invitations instructional materials modules lesson plans documentation

    registration certificates and finances.

Teachers decorated the stage and the whole school differently so as to invite a special atmosphere to the same pupils who are regularly attending classes in

our school. The moment they saw the new set up children too were readily motivated to attend the reading camp instead of spending their vacations at home.

'odules lesson plans and instructional materials of various learning opportunities were prepared. Teachers made sure that play fun games oral

interpretations videos and other en(oyable activities were introduced to catch learners’ interest. %olorful and interactive visual aids were displayed and used by the

)%!* facilitators. &ll these activities were done outside the four corners of our classrooms. +t made the pupils more engrossed to learning.

*upils from non, readers frustration to instructional readers were given chances to further enhance and develop their reading ability. What’s more- They

were able to showcase their talents during the culminating activity.

With the encouraging words and generous acts of our dear principal 'rs. 'arilou S. %alma coupled with the high, spirited teachers cooperative parents and

pupils and the guidance of od &lmighty all started well and ended successfully. To od be the lory# See you all next year for another fun, filled Summer
