Dear People of Trinity Church, I wanted to let you know how glad I am to be starting my time with you as your Interim Rector. I know that, given the lengthy tenures of Fr. Frink and Rev. Pam, an interim rector is a bit of a strange creature around here. My basic task is to offer priestly ministry here so that the worship, pastoral care, program, and administration of the parish continues unabated as you begin to take on the work of looking for a new rector. I will be with you Monday Thursday (and Saturday evening and Sunday, of course). I plan to be in the office in the mornings for sure, so please feel free to stop by or call and set up a more specific time to get together. This time of transition is by definition a time of some change and uncertainty who is this new guy, when will the search start, how will that happen, when will we have a new rector…? Having served as Interim in three other parishes, I think I have a good feel for how this goes, so please ask questions, offer comments, and make suggestions as we go along. I have been warmly welcomed already by those whom I have had a chance to meet, and your wardens have been very supportive and helpful. I look forward to meeting more of you, and especially to starting up our worship life together. Faithfully, Fr. Bill TRINITY TIDINGS Volume 51, Issue 10, October 2016

From the Senior Warden. . . Welcome to October, as we plunge into a busy time here at Trinity. First, please welcome Father Bill Locke! Father Bill joined us during the last week in September and his first services take place the first week of October. He will be with us for the next year as we go through the search process. Speaking of our upcoming search, Donna Martel, the Vestry and I will be soliciting names for anyone interested in being considered to serve on one of the many committees that will be formed during the search process. Look for more information on what the committees will consist of and how to sign up. Please know that even if you give us your name, there are no guarantees that you will be selected for the committee you request or even be selected at all. We will be providing more information in the coming weeks. Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and understanding during this period of transition from Reverend Pam’s retirement, to our welcoming of supply priests, to bringing Father Bill on board as Interim Rector. It is a process, and, so far, I think we are doing just fine. On to the next step! Just a reminder: If you haven’t already done so, please sign up to help out before and during the Turkey Supper. It is an event that people in Scituate and beyond look forward to every year. Your help is always appreciated. Scott Fraser Senior Warden

Bits and Pieces...

Haven't pledged yet? It's not too late! Talk with our Treasurer, Susan Newkirk at [email protected]

If everyone who has already pledged to support Trinity's mission and ministries gave $7 more per week, we would totally erase the deficit!!! Not everyone can afford an additional $7 more per week, but whatever you can give helps big time! Thank you in advance!

Nursery Volunteers Needed

We are seeking volunteers to help out in the Trinity nursery. The nursery is utilized by our youngest members, and is staffed by a licensed childcare provider, Michele Pinault. However, there must be two adults present at all times, per Safe Church Practices guidelines, so we ask for volunteers to fill that second spot on a rotating schedule. We are currently seeking at least 4 more people to add to the list. If you are interested, please contact Janet Heywood at janny124ri@yahoolcom. Thanks so much!

Trinity Men's Group

The next meeting for the Men’s Group is Saturday, October 8, 2016, @ 9:00 AM, in Aldrich Hall. Breakfast will be served during the meeting. This is a very important meeting, as we will be choosing our leaders for the next year. Nominations will be taken and voted upon at this meeting. Please pray and consider giving time to the ministry of the Men’s Group. After the meeting, we will be responsible for setting up the tables and chairs for the Turkey Supper on the following day. Hope to see a great turn out as we will be discussing events for the coming year. Rick Shurtleff, Your Brother in Christ

Join the Choir. . . . Psalms 95:1-2 - "O come, let us sing unto

the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation." Join the

choir! We ALWAYS have room in every section (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass).

We rehearse on Tuesdays in the Sanctuary from 7:00 - 8:00 PM. We also

rehearse Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM in the choir area on the second floor of Graham Hall. We

have a lot of fun, support one another, and enjoy making music together. Questions? Call Pat or

Steak Fry & Time/Talent Auction

This fundraiser was a huge success! Not just for the money raised for the General Fund, but for a wonderful evening of fellowship with our church family. Thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket, offered a Time & Talent, and those who bid on the items offered. The Time & Talent portion of the evening brought in $3,229.00, and the dinner brought in $1,033.63 for a grand total of $4,262.63.

Special thanks go to Rick & Jill Shurtleff, Roger & Pat Cichy, John & Kathy Morgan, Deirdre & Frank Marzano, Donna & Chris Martel, Jim & Debbie Connors, Mary Blackmore, Mary Jane Hartley, and Celia Petit. We would also like to acknowledge the following people who made a donation of product or money which reduced the cost of this event: Barden's Orchard, Fraser Family, Brannigan Family, Becky and Dave Smith, Terry Yeaw, and Cindy Averill.

A summary of all fundraising events is posted on the bulletin board in Aldrich Hall.

Turkey Supper News Please send in your ticket money this week as we are getting ready to shop for the food for the turkey supper....If anyone would still like to sign up to be a Turkey Supper angel and donate the money to pay for a food item, please do so ASAP!!! There are still volunteer positions available before the dinner and during the dinner. Please, please contact Michelle in the office Monday-Friday or sign up Sunday after services to see where you can help. Time is running out and our loyal supporters will still be joining us on Sunday, October 9th, expecting a fine dining experience. Help Needed. . . . . We are in need of about 10-15 people to help wrap silverware after services this Sunday, October 2nd. If you could give 30-40 minutes after grabbing coffee, it is an easy sitting down task that anyone can do. Please consider giving a little of your time this Sunday. Speaking of a sitting-down job, please notice we have 3 openings in the beverage room on Turkey Sunday from 5:30-8:00 PM. Another sit-down job is maintaining silverware for the supper. Would anyone consider this job? At this time, 20% of the Turkey supper tickets have been prepaid (a total of 30 families out of 149). Please help by sending in your check as we are shopping for the dinner this Saturday, October 1st. Thank you to all of our Turkey Supper Angels!!!! Squash peeling, without the peeling will be done on THURSDAY EVENING, September 29th, not Friday, from 5-9pm. The committee is respectfully requesting pumpkin, blueberry, mincemeat or apple pies. Please do not bring crème pies, as we do not have refrigeration available for storage.

Penny Social and Special Raffle Table News These are very important areas for the overall success of the Bazaar. This year we are looking for new items for our tables that you may wish to donate. I have also registered at Kohl’s, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond under my name, Linda Strocky, so that you can purchase items at your convenience between now and the beginning of November. It is my hope that these registries will make it easier for you when shopping. The items I chose are simply suggestions. If you don’t find anything in your price range, consider a gift card or donation so that we can combine them and use them towards the purchase of larger items for the Special Raffle Table. More details will follow. Please consider joining the Penny Social Team. Many hands make light work. I can be reached at 654-8182 to let me know what times you are available. Thank you!

Outreach News. . . . .

Outreach The beginning of the fall is a busy time at Trinity. We begin another year of providing a nourishing meal to the clients of St. George’s Soup Kitchen. More hands are needed to serve and cook. We are scheduled for the third Sunday of every month. If you are interested in joining us in this most rewarding ministry, please call Linda Strocky at 654-8182.

FOOD CLOSET REQUESTS:

For the month of October the Food Closet will be requesting

donations of canned soups. Your donations are greatly appreciated!

Thanksgiving Baskets…..The holiday season is fast approaching. In preparation for the upcoming season, we have started collecting food items needed for the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for our clients. Last year we were able to provide over 60 baskets for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We could not have done this without the support of our very generous parishioners and the items donated each year by the Advent Christian Church. As in the past, we are asking for your support of this program. Support can be in the way of a donation of money to defray the cost of the baskets or by providing some of the items we need to purchase. These include the

following:

· Butternut squash · Green beans · Stuffing mix

Thank you for all you do!
