Mohamad Irwandy Bin Mohamad JaliTESL 2ReflectionFor this semester, this course, Managing the Primary ESL Classroom had been one of the courses which I confess is a bit heavy for me. The assignment given for this course required us to present and explain one of the management theories in the classroom and also write a reflection based on a lesson done by a teacher during our SBE. In the reflection, we had to explain the teachers methods and strategies which they had used in their lesson.Throughout this course and the process of completing this assignment, there were a few complications and also some strength that were developed which are worth mentioning. I realized that this course had push me a bit in a corner which means that I had difficulty understanding much of the theories taught and also its significance. The problem was that I had underestimate the importance of this course and perhaps assumed that the reality would be far different than the theories learnt in the class. One other thing was that I deemed this course to be a bit complicated and heavy which leads me to be less interested in it. The late realization that this course would actually help me prepare for my practicum had saved me bit and I did find the time to review some of the classroom theories. However, whether it was sufficient or not, I will leave it during my practicum to see whether I had prepared enough or not. Besides that, having learnt some of the theories in my second and third semester which were taught in other courses, it helps me to understand the theories and strategies a bit. Even though it was a bit heavy, my previous knowledge regarding these theories and strategies had helped me to understand some of the strengths and weaknesses of the theories and also their practicality in the classroom. However, to be more competent in understanding them, I admit that I need to read more on them. Other than the complications I had faced, I also realized some strength I had developed during the course of completing the assignment at hand. For the sourcing of materials, I realized that I was more efficient than before in doing them. This might be because the experiences of sourcing for the right materials or articles from previous assignments had taught me to skim faster for the right information and discard articles which were not related to my assignment at all. Previously, I would find myself wasting time reading a whole article before I realize it was not what I need for my assignment. In addition, I also realized that my presentation skills had improved. I did not need to read the slides as I had done before in my past presentations. Instead, I only have to state the main point and elaborate using facts that I had read before my presentation. Besides that, this time I had manage to present my points in the time limit given without dragging or spewing unneeded information during my presentation. This had proven to be one of my best improvements so far in this course.
