The book Why Social Media Matters by Kitty Porterfield and Meg Carnes was very interesting to me and I liked how it piggy backed well with Eric Sheninger’s book. This is another book as I mentioned if my previous reflection, that I will definitely keep handy and as part of my resource library in order to access regularly. This is important for me simply because I am new to the social media world and definitely need the assistance in getting started. One big take away from this book was within chapter 9 .This chapter focuses on what and how we say things and the fact that we need to purposeful in our attempts to use social media to reach our stakeholders. There are several things in this chapter that caught my attention and the first being write like you speak. I feel this is something I do well, but at the same time, am glad to hear this reinforced in this chapter. It is important to connect with your readers and to evolve what your stakeholders are reading into further conversation. The second thing this chapter taught me was to make things stick with your readers. Generally, shorter and to the point is better, but at the same time, staying true to who you are. I know I can be wordy when typing and speaking, so it is important for me to find the right times to be wordy versus the appropriate times to be short and to the point in order to share basic and relevant information. The main thing this book did for me was to give me confidence in moving forward with digital platforms. It has a lot of really simple to use strategies and tools and explains them well. This will benefit me as I previously mentioned when I refer back to this resource. After reading this book, I definitely feel more ready and prepared to take on something new and run with it. I know it doesn’t have to be perfect, and preach to kids all year long that it is ok to make mistakes and to just start trying and I need to remember my own advice when moving forward.
