INTRODUCTION

Small power distribution units (SPDU) also known as ready boards are widely used on City Power electrification projects and low cost housing reticulation as the main intake point (point of supply) for dwellings. The SPDU is mounted on the inside wall of a dwelling at a position that is strategically chosen to facilitate access by the occupant.

1 SCOPE

The purpose of this specification is to specify the technical requirements to be met when acquiring SPDU for use on City Power’s distribution networks.

2 NORMATIVE REFERENCES

The following documents contain provisions that, through reference in the text, constitute requirements of this specification. All standards and specifications are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this specification are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the documents listed below.

SAN S 10142-1, Low-voltage installations

3 DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS

The definitions and abbreviations in the above document shall apply to this specification.

4 REQUIREMENTS SPDU

4.1 Consumer for normal electrification

The SPDU shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1619 and shall have the following components:

a) 1 x 63A earth leakage unit without overload protection,

b) 1 x 10A single phase 6kA miniature circuit breakers (main overload protection),

c) 2 x 20A single phase 6kA miniature circuit breakers,

d) 3 x 16A switched socket outlets protected as recommended in SANS 1619 by c as above

e) 1 x 60W bulkhead fitting complete with a 2 m x 1.5 mm2 x 2c extension fitted with a 16Amp 3pin plug.

4.2 Energy mix technologies

4.2.1 Grid

a) 1x 63A Earth leakage complying to CP_TSSPEC_017

b) 1 x 20A CB complying to CP_TSSPEC_017

c) 2 x 6W twin plugs with a 2 m and 5m respectively extension cables each with a on and off switches.

d) 2x 15Amp (combined rating) 3pin plugs each with a on and off switches.

4.2.2 PV

a) It shall be green in colour

b) 1x 63A Earth leakage complying to CP_TSSPEC_017

c) 1 x 2A CB complying to CP_TSSPEC_017 each with a on and off switches

d) 2 x 6W twin plugs with a 2 m and 5m respectively extension cables each with a on and off switches

4.3 Mounting

The SPDU shall be supplied fitted with wall-mounting brackets (rails). Full details of these mounting brackets shall be submitted with the tender.

5 TESTS

Tests on SPDU shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1619.

6 MARKING, LABELLING AND PACKAGING

6.1 Marking, labelling and packaging shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1619.

6.2 All circuits shall be labelled in accordance with the requirements of SAN S 10142.

6.3 The socket-outlet with its own miniature circuit breaker shall be labelled by a picture of a stove for high electrical loads.

7 DOCUMENTATION

Documentation that complies with the requirements of SANS 1619 shall be submitted in a catalogue format. In addition, relevant test results and certificates confirming compliance with the requirements of SANS 1619 shall be submitted.

8 TRAINING

8.1. A necessary certified training course shall be offered to relevant City Power staff. The training shall include handling, storage and planting of concrete poles.

8.2. The Training course of at least 2 courses in a year and FAT (for a minimum of 2 City power employees) shall be part of the tender awarding process at no extra cost for the period of the contract

9 QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

A quality management system shall be set up in order to assure the quality of the distribution boards during design, development, production, installation and service. Guidance on the requirements for a quality management system may be found in the following standards SABS ISO 9001. The details shall be subject to agreement between the purchaser and supplier.
