Reed & Weave January 2018 Edion President’s Message…. Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a happy Holiday Season with family and friends. And that the Season inspired your creativity, of course. Well, I anticipated my last letter by one. Lynda Yoho, our incoming President was quite thankful that I volunteered to do the January President’s letter, since she will be installed in January and is technically not President yet! Thank you, Lynda, for your service to the guild as Secretary and soon to be President. You will do a great job! And thanks again to all our officers and chairs for serving. The auction and Pot Luck were a lot of fun in December. As usual, the food was delicious—good work all! And the auction was a variation on a theme, and good to try out. Thanks for organizing it Janet and Sallie. Members donated some lovely items. I know I’m enjoying the items I bid on and won! In January, you have a real treat coming up. Make sure you come out for Sarah Jackson’s color workshop. It will be a wonderful experience for all weavers and fiber enthusiasts. I will repeat what I said last month, as it is true! This will be my last newsletter, so I will say that it has been a privilege to serve the guild as your president. You have been a wonderful group to lead—so creative and positive. I could not have asked for a more energetic and talented group of weaving, spinning and fiber artists. So I will say one more time: keep weaving; spinning; dyeing and creating! Kathleen Waln

Reed & Weave January 2018 Edition

President’s Message….

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a happy Holiday Season with family and

friends. And that the Season inspired your creativity, of course.

Well, I anticipated my last letter by one. Lynda Yoho, our incoming President was quite thankful

that I volunteered to do the January President’s letter, since she will be installed in January and is

technically not President yet! Thank you, Lynda, for your service to the guild as Secretary and

soon to be President. You will do a great job! And thanks again to all our officers and chairs for

serving.

The auction and Pot Luck were a lot of fun in December. As usual, the food was delicious—good

work all! And the auction was a variation on a theme, and good to try out. Thanks for organizing it

Janet and Sallie. Members donated some lovely items. I know I’m enjoying the items I bid on and

won!

In January, you have a real treat coming up. Make sure you come out for Sarah Jackson’s color

workshop. It will be a wonderful experience for all weavers and fiber enthusiasts.

I will repeat what I said last month, as it is true! This will be my last newsletter, so I will say that it

has been a privilege to serve the guild as your president. You have been a wonderful group to

lead—so creative and positive. I could not have asked for a more energetic and talented group of

weaving, spinning and fiber artists.

So I will say one more time: keep weaving; spinning; dyeing and creating!

SARA JACKSON

A THREE HOUR MINI-WORKSHOP/PIZZA LUNCH JANUARY 8, 2018

Color is one of the most exciting components of weaving, and… learning to use colors confidently can be challenging. Mixing yarn colors doesn't work like mix-ing colors with paint, and even experienced professionals with in-depth color knowledge are often surprised by color effects in woven cloth. The goal of this

workshop is to help participants understand how to explore the numerous pos-sibilities for successfully translating color into woven cloth.

Sarah Jackson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, concentration in textile design, from the University of Kansas. She is a frequent contributor to Handwoven

magazine, joined the editorial team in 2012 as a technical editor and worked as the weaving editor for Handwoven from 2014-2017.

PLEASE BRING:

Note-taking supplies, scissors, scotch tape and one or more photos with colors you want to explore!

lowing color, line and shape to express emotion, Carol embellishes simple open weaving or

knitting with surface decoration that results in a complex decorated fiber pieces. Her tech-

niques involve embroidery, needle weaving, needle felting and nuno felting as she creates

garments, yardage and accessories.
