    --itshouldbesweet-smelling.-almostmatted--flakesshouldfall

    apart.Yourhayhastwosignsthattellyouitmightbebad--flakesstickingtogetherandadustyappearance.Alsocheckthestemsofthehayontheendsofthebalesveryclosely.Thestemsorstalksofthehay"wick"themoistureoutoftheairandupintothecenterofthebale.Ifthebaleshadahighmoisturecontenttostartwithorgotwet,youhaveamuchhigherchanceofruiningthehay.Remember,anymoldormildewonhorsehayisnot

    acceptable.Alotoftimesthehaywilllookgoodontheoutsidebutifyoubreakitapartitwilllookdustyandhaveamustysmell--thisisbadhay.Thereisalwaysachancethatthehaycamefromaverydustyfield,butthisisnotusuallythecase.Differenttypesofgrassaremorepronetospoilagethanothersandwetclimatesmakeithardertokeephaytoo.Saltinghaywillhelpabsorbthemoistureofwethay,butifyourhayisalreadyshowingsignslikethisit'stoolate.

    Mort reported that plans to work on the Ten Bears site and Stanshawere coming together. Summer plans include working on water linesndtanks, standard trail work, anda possible addition of picnictables,nd bathroom, pending environmental impact report. Redwood Unitplanning to spend the weekend of July 3rd, 4th and 5th in Stanshaw

    working on water issues and on trails. Mort requested the unitimburse him for the cost of supplies and food for the work party, asehaveinyearspast.Seedetailsforthisworkpartyonpage8.

    ete reported that he was invited to speak at History Day, which is aayoflearningfortheArcataCitySchools.

    presented an idea for a weekend camp out ride at Cuneo Creek foweekend of August 28th , 29th, 30th. Jacque had already reservecampground since they were going fast. Pete motioned that thereimburse Jacque for the cost of the campground reservationsecondedandthemotionpassed.Fulldetailsareonpage8.

    Members discussed the Fortuna Rodeo Paradeseveral members showed an interest in riding in the parade. The pwill be held onSaturday,July18th,on MainStreet inFortuna. Memtalked about getting T-shirts made with the Redwood Unit Logwear at the parade. A sign up sheet was passed around, for information or to sign up contact Jacque Murphy 707-498-664

    Mort mentioned that the unit used tospecial t-shirts with a logo on them, specifically representinRedwood Unit. Erica volunteered to get a price quote for having

    Unit members, Bev Harvey and Susan Combes, both suffered brwrists this month. We wish them a speedy recovery so they can getinthesaddleandonthetrail.

    Crystal Lovfald won the monthly drawing. She won awesternframewhichwas donatedbyYvetteMendes.Themeetingwasadjournedat8:54p.m.
