An holistic, integratedapproach to thespecification, installation and testing of complex data interfaces

INTEROPERABILITY IS MISSION CRITICAL

Tactical Data Links (TDLs) provide real-time communications that enable coordinated action byplatform and people in response to changes in the operational environment.

They are effective only if information is transferred in a timely manner without loss of meaning; only if the communications are interoperable. The processensuring that TDLs are interoperable is referred to as interoperability assurance.

ENSURING PLATFORM INTEROPERABILITY IS A COMPLEX SCIENCE

Achievement of interoperabilityrequires a structured approach, a clear expression of information exchange requirements, auditablecompliance to requirements standardsand through-lifesupport.

STANDARDS

INTEROPERABLE SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT ANDREQUIREMENTS TRANSFORMATIONiSMART

To help us with this complex issuethe iSMART process was developed.A progression of the United Kingdom(UK) Ministry of Defence's (MOD's)Through Life Interoperability Process(TULIP), iSMART supports a suite ofdocuments which define the TDLRequirement in a hierarchy. iSMARTis an open process that can beemployed by any organisation toassist in the management ofinteroperability.

To be able to interoperate, acommon standard baseline isnecessary, this is determinedthrough policy, process, guidanceand sustainment. It's widely accepted that interoperability cantherefore only be achieved throughstandards conformance with thecomplete, correct and consistentapplication of the standard. So howdo defence engineering teamsprove and demonstrate thisconformance?

SPIRIT

SPIRIT is SyntheSys' process for system and platform through-life interoperability management, offering a systematic process for multi-platform specifications, test creation and management. The tool allows teams to manage standards, requirements and implementation with one end-to-end solution.

INTRODUCING

THE SPIRIT WAY

The SPIRIT approach focuses on the definition of an integrated and self consistent set of standards, which define how the individual systems within a system-of-systems coordinate and report actions. We refer to this set of standards as 'the vision'.

At the heart of the SPIRIT method is a model of the standards that represent the vision. The model ensures that the vision is clear, consistent and correct.

AUTOMATION

SPIRIT applies proven systems engineering practices and principles in a standard-centric environment. The automated methods and tools support through-life sustainment of TDLs where the focus is on end-to-end platform support, including verification, interoperability assurance testing, and test case specification. SPIRIT also offers a structured framework for configuration management. SPIRIT will give you full traceability by connecting standards with platform implementations and test results. Test planning and execution is managed in one complete test repository where all test information can be accessed in one place. SPIRIT is compatible with the iSMART process and its artefacts, and automates production of iSMART documents. SPIRIT can also be effectively used independently of the iSMART process.

AN AUTOMATED ALTERNATIVE

BENEFITS

• Give you a single end-to-end solution for TDL interoperability management.

• Reduce risk within your TDL development programmes by adopting a robust systems engineering approach. • Save you money by streamlining your systems development.

• Reduce unforeseen costs associated with ineffective interoperability management.

• Give you a highly effective, reliable method ensuring you can confidently demonstrate performance and results to military stakeholders.

CONOPS = Concept of OperationsIERs = Information Exchange Requirements

• Integrated process and databases.• An automated approach to document creation.• Develops test cases against your vision.• Reduces costs with early test case identification. • Integrates with the Systems Development life cycle.• Allows 'what if' analysis on change management processes.• Identifies minimum number of test cases. • Means for certification.• Fully integrated support to iSMART tools, processes and products.• Can also be used independently of standards and includes provision for any platform specification.

• Dynamic modelling of standards: provides formal verification.• Configuration Management: standards, platform, ICP/DLCP Impact Assessment. • Requirements: platform requirements (PRS, PRDD), platform implementation (APIS, PIDD).• Testing: specification, test generation, test management, VCRI• Interoperability: IOE.

FULFILLING A COMPLEX CUSTOMER REQUIREMENT

SPIRIT -On Demand

PROVISION

SPIRIT can be purchased as a service, whereby SyntheSys configures and runs SPIRIT on your behalf, on our own systems.

This reduces overall capital and training costs and provides a sophisticated model for the production of documents and test cases.

Alternatively, purchasing the full toolset gives users direct control over usage whilst giving simple preparation of requirements and test documents. You will receive a single repository of all platform data.

SyntheSys will maintain your databases.

SPIRIT -On Premise

LICENCE

• Licences for all Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) software. • Databases of international standards.

• Document templates customised to clients’ needs.

• SPIRIT Documentation: user manual and training manual.

• Training. • Warranty and support for 1 year.
