Wide Range StagesElectrical submersible pumps (ESP) are designed for a limited production range. Rapid decline can cause premature pump wear, increased interventions, and extended payback of investment. To prevent this, REDLift system pumps are configured to allow for a wider hydraulic operating range.

The REDLift system offers a suite of wide range (WR) electrical submersible pump (ESP) stages that cover unconventional wells broad production ranges. WR stages accommodate unconventional wells changing inflow and stay in the well longer.

*Based on total volume through pump, which includes liquids and gas. If gas is present, then fluid volumes below 100 barrels per day (bpd) can be handled. 

Variable Speed Drive Advanced SoftwareProduction decline can be managed through careful, intelligent operation with monitoring automation technologies. Realization of the full expanded production range potential depends on the use of a variable speed drive (VSD) and its advanced software suite that optimizes REDLift system operation. Gas mitigation software specific to Halliburton VSD’s allows REDLift systems to “ride through” gas slugs.

Abrasion Resistant System Frac proppant migrates back into the wellbore when a pressure drop is created by the pump and enters the pump intake. High solids concentration can plug pump stages and can cause erosion of internal components. To address this, abrasion resistance (AR) is designed throughout the REDLift system.

Wide range pumps have AR configured stages that use tungsten carbide inserts to provide radial support for improved sand management. In addition, 100%-coated staging is available for the harshest environments. Halliburton’s Q-MAXTM Gas Bypass System uses coatings, employs hardened liners, and thickens critical components to enable continuous operations in the most abrasive environments.

When solids concentrations overwhelm the handling capabilities of the pump, Halliburton can offer a desander, which is designed to filter the sand in the well bore before entering the pump.

Q-MAX™ Gas Bypass SystemGas in the well is released as the wellbore pressure is reduced by pump drawdown. Gas comes in slugs and consumes valuable area, restricting and ultimately stopping all liquid flow.

Halliburton’s Q-MAX Gas Bypass system is the most efficient gas-mitigation product in the ESP industry by both handling and separating gas.

Hundreds of field installations in the largest shale oil basins have shown that Halliburton’s Q-MAX Gas Bypass system

operates in higher gas oil ratio (GOR) conditions and allows drawdowns that were previously unattainable.

InteLift™ Remote Monitoring SystemWith Halliburton’s Artificial Lift InteLiftTM remote monitoring system and its companion downhole sensor performing 24/7 well monitoring, you have total performance identification and control of your most valuable assets. Users can monitor well performance, optimize pump performance, maximize operational efficiency, and minimize downtime.

In the Bakken, each well was completed with an ESP. One belonged to Halliburton and the other to a competitor. The principal difference was the competitor used a standard rotary gas separator, while Halliburton proposed its REDLift system. The results were overwhelming. Halliburton’s REDLift system extended run life by five months and had an additional drawdown of 300 to 500 psi. With a total production increment of 140,000 bbls, at $75/bpd, the incremental production value is USD 10.5 million.

In the Permian Basin, a well’s 3,250 GOR created intermittent operations and threatened the viability of the dual pay zone completion. Halliburton proposed a test in which the well would produce 30 days with a rotary gas separator (RGS), and then the RGS would be replaced with the REDLift system. After 20 days, the RGS’ oil production was 154 bpd with gas lock and intermittent operations. The REDLift system’s oil production was 95% larger at 300 bpd, had continuous operations, and drew the well down from 1,000 to 300 psi.

An operator in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma asked Halliburton to provide its REDLift system in its most challenging well where the competition had underperformed. Halliburton’s REDLift system was chosen for its WR pumps that cover unconventionals’ broad production ranges, its Q-MAX Gas Bypass gas-separation technology, and abrasion resistance system configuration. The results were overwhelming. Halliburton’s REDLift system increased oil production by 160 bpd, increased gas production by 3.2MMcf per day, and had an additional drawdown of 200 psi.
