Ombre is a French word that means “shade” or “shadow.” In haircoloring, ombre refers to the transition between colors – a gradual change in shade from dark to light, or from one color to another. Some call the new softer look “Sombre”!

It started on the runway, with amazing designs by prada and Lanvin. Then it made its way to the red carpet.

From there it hit the city streets, on everything from manicures to shoes to handbags.

It’s the biggest trend to hit the haircolor scene in 2013 and it’s not showing any signs of stopping.

The new Ombre Lights Service lets you customize the perfect ombre haircolor for every client, with luminous blonde and brilliant brunette shades inspired by NyC’s hottest nightspots.

NEW NIGHT LIGHTS SHADES FROM CHROMATICS

We invited Redken Artists AJ Blackadder (Andrew Barton Salon) and Kelly Scott (Strands) to the Redken Exchange in London. using new Chromatics Night Lights Shades, they created two unique Ombre looks…

Step 1: Divide hair into triangularsections, apply 4N to the roots then work in 5Vb a third of the way down hair.

Step 2: To begin the ripple effect, work in3Br and finish with 5Vb at the ends.

Step 1: Divide hair diagonally from the corner of the fringe, apply 9Ab and clear through to the ends.

Step 2: Apply 9AB to the top section of hair, then apply 5Vv and clear to the next section back, working the color up.

KELLY’S OVERLAY EFFECT

Step 3: Again, apply 9Ab to the top section. Then add 6Vr mixed with clear to the ends.

Step 3: On the top layer, enhance theripple effect by working in 6Vr, 5Vb and bright 6Rr in three bands.
