In 1928, a new movie palace opened in Detroit

called the Redford Theatre and it quickly became a neighborhood

institution. Decades later hundreds of movie palaces fell into disrepair but the Redford Theatre and its theatre organ managed to escape the ravages of neglect that befell so many others with support from the Motor City Theatre Organ Society (MCTOS), a team of dedicated volunteers and devoted patrons.

We invite you to play a vital role in the continued operation and improvements to this beautiful, one of a kind movie palace. The Redford is a special theatre that brings history to life, entertaining and educating audiences from all over metro Detroit. Sustaining Donor LevelsThe Redford Theatre Sustaining Donors are a group of generous committed individuals who believe in the MCTOS’s mission of the preservation of the historic Redford Theatre, the understanding and enjoyment of the theatre pipe organ and the education and presentation of classic films and the arts. As a way of expressing our deep gratitude for your generous donation, we would like to offer the following benefits.

• Usher ($100) - 2 movie passes and a Redford Theatre t-shirt.

• Stage Hand ($250) - your name on a Redford Theatre seat, 4 movie passes and a Redford Theatre t-shirt.

• Cinematographer ($500) - your name on a Redford Theatre “premier” seat or two “standard” seats, 4 movie passes, $25 concession bucks and a Redford Theatre t-shirt.

• Supporting Actor ($1000) - your name on a Redford Theatre “premier” seat or two “standard” seats, name on donor wall and website, 2 meet and greet tickets, 12 movie passes, $25 in concession bucks and a Redford Theatre t-shirt.

• Best Actor ($2,500) - a behind the scenes Redford Theatre tour, your name on a Redford Theatre “premier” seat or two “standard” seats, name on donor wall and website, 4 meet and greet tickets, 24 movie passes, $50 in concession bucks and 2 Redford Theatre t-shirts.

• Producer ($5,000 and above) - One custom Redford Theatre event for up to 500 people with you as the MC, souvenir event poster, your name on a Redford Theatre “premier” seat or two “standard” seats, name on donor wall and website, 24 movie passes and 2 Redford Theatre t-shirts * event must be arranged with our rental manager at least 6 months in advance and expenses above and beyond the norm will be the responsibility of the donor.

The Redford Theatre’s story is reflective of Detroit’s story. It’s a story of beauty and of a rich history. A story of volunteers and the community coming together. It’s a story of resilience and can-do spirit.

At one point, the city of Detroit was home to more than 100 single screen movie theatres. Today, only 3 are regularly operating. With hard work and deep commitment the Redford Theatre not just survives, it thrives! Those who come to out to see films or enjoy an organ concert know it’s a special place where history and this shared story come to life.
