Much like attendance at school is important for growth and learning, attending worship is essential to your spiritual growth. I also understand that Sunday morning worship is not the best timing for weekend get-a-ways, so I want to encourage you to attend our Wednesday evening services. I am looking forward to using our outdoor worship space as much as possible this summer as the weather permits. We will still begin the evening at 6:00 pm with a meal. The meals the people of Redeemer prepare each week are truly a gift to us. If you haven’t experienced a Wednesday evening service yet, summer is a great time to start! I am also excited that Redeemer will be offering an intergenerational prairie experience this August. Every Wednesday in August at 4pm there will be outdoor activities in our prairie. These activities are for kids, families, grandparents, anyone. This experience will be open to the community, so please invite friends to join us. We are asking people who plan to participate to sign up so we can have an idea of how many people to prepare for. You can sign up on-line on our website under the online sign ups tab, or you can sign up on the sheet in the great hall. We also need volunteers to help put it on. If you are interested in helping please let me know by June 15 th if possible. You do not have to commit to every Wednesday to be a volunteer. And another way to help is simply by letting people know about Wonder Wednesdays. There are flyers on our welcome desk or direct them to our website. And finally, I encourage you to use the summer to discern. How may you begin a new routine to commit more of yourself to God? What hopes and dreams do you have for Redeemer? What do you feel called by God to lead? Enjoy the summer in God’s creation! Blessings, Pastor Julie Hey, Redeemer! Come out and visit us at the Hartland Kid’s Day on Wednesday, July 25 from 9 am-2 pm at Nixon Park! Redeemer will be having a booth there and we are looking forward to another beautiful, fun kid’s day! We are looking for volunteers to help us staff the booth, so if you are interested, please contact Kyla Stefan. See you there!

Communion Sundays - BRING FOOD!

For many years members of Redeemer brought donations for the food pantry to church on Com-munion Sunday. It was an opportunity and a reminder for us to feed others as we were being fed. The Faith Formation team and the Mission team would like to reintroduce that practice. When you come to church on the first Sunday of the month, knowing you will receive communion, please bring food to share with those who are less fortunate.

NEW Prayer Shawl Ministry Project

If you know how to knit or crochet, you might be able to save a babies life. Redeemer is making and collecting newborn baby-sized hats that are at least 50% PURPLE. Donated hats collected before October 1 will be dis-tributed in November and December 2018 as part of the “Click for Babies” campaign.

The goal of the “Click for Babies” campaign is to increase awareness and educate others about the period of PURPLE crying that all infants go through. The program educates parents on how to respond to prolonged crying and the importance of never shaking a child—all in an effort to pre-vent the shaking and abuse of infants.

If you need purple yarn you can find it on the Prayer Ministry table in the Great Hall. If you are making hats at home, you can leave your finished hats there as well. If you need patterns, there are a number of patterns available on the Click For Babies website: https://www.clickforbabies.org/stitchers-club

Thank you for helping us to save the lives of our precious babies!

Eras Senior Network- Urgent Volunteer Needs Healthcare and Grocery Shopping Drivers: Help get someone to their doctor’s appointment or to the grocery store. We are facing a shortage of drivers and an abundance of ride requests. Help provide the ride that keeps a senior or adult with a disability living independently. A couple hours to spare is all we need! Handy Person: A woman living in Waukesha needs a volunteer to perform some minor electrical work. She wants a light fixture hung over a mirror in her bath and some wires looked at in her basement after the death of her husband some time ago. Friendly Face: We’re looking for a Friendly Visitor and a Non-Medical respite volunteer to sit with a gentleman in Muskego who has Parkinson’s disease with some dementia. His wife needs a breather to take care of herself. Painter: A woman in Pewaukee would like a wall her in her basement painted before she puts her house up for sale. She would provide the necessary materials. This is a great service project for a group of teens or a couple looking for something to do on a rainy day.

Life’s Recipe 1 Cup of Good Thoughts 1 Cup of Kind Deeds 1 Cup of Consideration for Others 2 Cups of Sacrifice for Others 3 Cups of Forgiveness 2 Cups of Well-Beaten Faults Mix these thoroughly; add tears of joy and sorrow and sympathy for others; Fold in 4 cups of prayers and faith to lighten other ingredients and raise the texture to great height of Christian living. After pouring all this into your daily life, bake well with the heart of human kindness. Serve with a smile.

CONTINUING EDUCATION—LAKELAND

CONTINUING EDUCATION

As Lakeland University's United Church of Christ Ambassador, I am writing to share some exciting news about Lakeland. The Board of Trustees authorized and launched a $12 million capital campaign that included:

A dramatic revitalization of the Younger Family Campus Center Construction of an outdoor athletic facility Funding for student scholarships

Right away Lakeland received confirmation of a $3 million lead gift-one of the largest gifts in Lakeland's history-to make the campaign possible. With this generous gift, Lakeland now had the $4.3 of the $6 million needed for the campus center project. The work is being done in phases so they can accommodate the current needs during construction. The Campus Center has a completion date of fall of 2018.

The renovated facility will be a jewel for the main campus. Built in 1964, the current facility is dated and lacks the social vitality and sense of place to be a true social hub for Lakeland. The revitalized campus center will fulfill a variety of roles, including:

Addressing healthy lifestyles through dining options and setups that promote healthy eating and socializing. Offering additional space for Lakeland's Student Success & Engagement program, including room to host coaching

sessions, workshops and small events to support students in achieving their goals. Providing an enhanced environment for community building, camaraderie and personal growth-enriching the spirit

of Lakeland and the individual lives of the students. Providing commuters with a place to "touch down" between classes so they can feel more connected to the campus community. Providing spaces to host a variety of events and activities.

Lakeland's trustees also approved a pilot program of a new cooperative education initiative that will create a new approach to students earning a Lakeland degree while significantly reducing or possibly eliminating student debt.

As the only non-engineering cooperative education institution in Wisconsin, Lakeland will combine classroom-based studies with practical work experience in partnership with selected employers, including the world-class, family-owned businesses in Lakeland's backyard. These partners will pay students for work related to their academic major, and students will use those dollars to pay for their tuition. Lakeland is also explored opportunities to leverage the campus's land to start student-managed businesses that would create additional work opportunities.

Because of this region's strong manpower needs, there are 3 distinct beneficiaries for this program:

Lakeland students, whose combined co-op earnings and merit scholarships from Lakeland will total up to $100,000 over four years, allowing many to graduate with little or no loan debt and the strong possibility of a good job in their field.

Employers, who currently are having trouble filling vacancies in accounting, IT, hospitality management, food science, marketing, sales, etc. Lakeland, which would use this program to expand enrollment by 250 over the next four years, taking Lakeland to

its capacity and the optimal size for the community.

Dating back to Lakeland's founding in 1862, they have always evolved to meet the needs of their students and the workforce they will enter after graduation. The cooperative education university model is the next step in Lakeland's evolution as they respond to a need for innovation in higher education. As these projects take shape, I will continue to share information. I encourage you to stop out at Lakeland sometime, especially if you have never seen it.

This truly is an exciting time for Lakeland and the future of this great university! If you have any questions about the programs or Lakeland University itself, please contact me. Thank you. Dawn Hobbick Lakeland Church Ambassador

KATY’S KLOSET—A WAUKESHA SECRET! Welcome to Katy’s Closet!

Waukesha County’s Medical Equipment Lending Library

Katy’s Kloset is a nonprofit lending library that ac-cepts donations of good, used durable medical equip-ment for children and adults. This equipment can then be borrowed at no charge by those in need. Recipients may keep this equipment for as long as needed, and are asked to return it promptly when no longer needed, so it can be recycled again and put to good use.

The Katy’s Kloset story begins with Team Up! With Families a non-profit organization whose mission is to enrich, nurture and strengthen families of children with special needs through their activities, services and programs. This is the kind of charity you won’t know

about until you need it. You won’t know about it until the nurses, doctors and physical therapists start telling you to try there. Katy’s Kloset is a very special place designed to help people with special needs. It’s housed in an unassuming warehouse in an industrial park on the south side of Waukesha and when you walk inside what you find is the treasure of help, of caring, and of people tirelessly donating their time to make this mar-velous lending library of medical and mobility equipment work.

But that, of course, doesn’t tell you what it’s like to arrive on a Wednesday or Saturday with your rented truck to bring home a hospital bed for a loved one. They are there for you in the worst moments of your life – tireless, energetic volunteers smiling at you and telling you they have what you need or that they think they soon will be able to get it for you. It is all made up of gifts – equipment that meant the difference between being comfortable or having bedsores, or between being mobile or immobile, or between dignity and indignity for someone else and has now been given to Katy’s Kloset for you and your family to use when you are in need.

Katy’s Kloset also accepts donations of medical supplies such as unexpired formula, feeding bags and extensions, incontinence supplies, Chux, wound care items, gauze, tape, etc. Those visiting Katy’s Kloset may take these supplies if they have a need for them. Other items that may be found at Katy’s Kloset include nebulizers, blood pressure machines, diabetic supplies, compression stockings, Ace bandages, C-pap machines and much more. The supply available is dependent on donations of these items.

Katy’s Kloset has no paid staff, just a dedicated group of volunteers who give freely of their time and talent. We are a service of Team Up! With Families, which supports Katy’s Kloset by providing our rent, office supplies, phones and utilities. Team Up!’s mission is to enrich, nurture and strengthen individuals with special needs and their families through its activities, services and programs.

This is truly a Waukesha HIDDEN SECRET! Help us to pass the word out to those who may need this great service! 404 Wilmont Dr. Unit D Waukesha, WI 53189 262-746-9034 Open: Wednesdays 3-5 pm and Saturdays 10-1 pm

Thank you for your commitment to all the children of Redeemer. What a blessing for them to spend

Thank you for the cards and kind words of condolence in the peaceful passing of our mom, Ruth Giese. Seven years ago, we left a fracturing Faith UCC. I saw no choice, at Mom's advancing age, but to follow the Faith Folk to Re-deemer so she would be comfortable with people she knew for many years at Faith. However, I am most appreciative of the welcome we received from the congregation of Redeemer and the visits by the congregational care team over these past years. Thank you for your kindness and concern for her, for our family and for whomever walks through the doors of Redeemer UCC. The Seidlitz and Giese families.

The purpose of the prayer family is to share our concern and support at times other than crisis times. Ways to do that are to include the person or family in your prayers during the week by sending a note, talking to them at church, a tele-phone call or email. The names are chosen at random, but sometimes seem by design in that it has come at a particularly appropriate time for them. It is our hope that this will continue to be meaningful.

Sunday Morning Schedule ~ Intergenerational Faith Exploration is looking at the possibility of altering the Sunday morning schedule. Hospitalized??? Let Redeemer Know

This is a reminder to all members of Redeemer UCC—If you or someone you love is hospitalized, please call the church office and give them this information. Hospitals, even though they may ask if you have a church affiliation, do not and cannot share that information. The patient or family must call the church to inform them. Good communication is especially important during these times of transition, and we do not want

anyone who would like a visit to not receive one. Also, this information gets passed on to the In-Home

Visiting Team so it can be further assessed if other help, once you have returned home, might we available. Thanks so much for your help as we strive to share clear and accurate information.

How to Reach Pastor Julie?

Pastor Julie is usually in the church office Tuesday through Friday. Mondays are the days she takes her Sabbath time (time away). During weekdays please call her at the church 262-246-6710. If you prefer to text her, or you have an emergency please contact her cell, 815-670-4502. If you are

contacting her through the church phone and email, please note that she does not access church email or church voicemail on Saturdays or Mondays.

PLEASE NOTE: HIPAA (The U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) provides for patient privacy in hospitals and nursing homes. What that means for Pastoral Care is that no one will be given information about patients without their consent. It also means that even if patients are asked about church affiliation during the admission process, no one from the health care institution will be contacting the church. If you or a loved one would like or expect a pastoral visit, you or someone designated by you must call the church and let us know. Otherwise we have no way of knowing about your situation. We are more than willing to provide pastoral care, but need your help in keeping us aware of your needs.

I attended my first South East Association meeting. It was very well attended with over 100 people in at-

tendance. I was able to meet new people including Redeemer’s first pastor Jim Byrd.

I experienced my first Swiss Steak dinner and I was touched by Redeemer’s hospitality. Your love and

care for the people in our space was something I am proud to have witnessed. In looking in the future, I

would like us to tap that same energy to do other events for the community.

We had our first quarterly congregational meeting. There are a lot of things beginning to spring forth in our

ministry teams. I am thankful for all the energy and excitement that the people are bringing to the teams.

In the future we will have to look at ways that we can get more people to attend these quarterly meetings,

so everyone is informed of what is happening and what the current needs are in the life of Redeemer.

In worship, we have had some great Sundays. Some highlights were the Pacific Islander and Asian Ameri-

can Ministries Sunday and the Sunday we prayed for our confirmation students. I have received positive

feedback about both of those services.

Looking ahead to June, I will be attending my first Wisconsin Conference annual meeting June 8-10. Since

it is my first conference meeting, I would like to experience the entire weekend, so I have arranged for

Rev. Gary Stillwell to come preach and lead worship.

Respectfully Submitted by Pastor Julie
