Current SAP HANA users are large North American High Techs

which already run SAP and have a more active mobile strategy

Respondents who currently use SAP HANA are from internationally operating, high-turnover companies mainly in High Tech and Financial Services industries. Currentusers are more likely to be headquartered in North America. SAP is perceived as anintegral part of their daily operations and, unsurprisingly, awareness and knowledgeof SAP HANA are high. Technical Consultants are the most skilled current SAP HANAusers, both in terms of awareness and knowledge.

Current users have a good awareness and knowledge of the product. Theyprocess a majority of their data via other SAP applications. Most SAP HANAdeployments have been resourced in-house, which implies that they are

comfortable with adopting new SAP solutions as part of their businessprocesses. Despite SAP HANA being a relatively new product, the majority ofcurrent users claim they are already reaping solution benefits.

Companies that have deployed SAP HANA have a strong focus on mobiletechnology, and see SAP HANA as already having an active role in theirmobile strategy. The majority of current users have also adopted the SAPmobile platform. SAP HANA is perceived as very important or even criticalto current users businesses, and they are much keener to move their ERP onHANA sooner, compared to future users.

Despite being comfortable with the SAP environment, current usersorganisations perceive system integration as their single biggest SAP-relatedchallenge. They also raise lengthy deployments and managing the changeas key concerns.

Future SAP HANA users are European High Techs,

Retailers and Utilities, keen to accelerate business processes

Future SAP HANA user respondents are from international, high-turnover companies, operating mainly in High Tech, Retail and Utilities sectors and headquartered inEurope. Future users are relatively well aware of the product but are lagging behind onactual solution knowledge. Functional consultants indicated they had the lowest levelof knowledge out of a ll job roles. Future user respondents are mostly consultants andmainly influencers of SAP-related decision making.

Future users are familiar with SAP and use some applications occasionally. Many arehowever planning on complementing their application portfolio with third partysoftware. Future users estimate that about a half of their SAP HANA data would beobtained through other SAP applications. Most report that deployment of HANA

platform will be on-premise, resourced by consultants, which suggests less familiarity/in-house expertise with SAP.

Companies planning on deploying SAP HANA are not in a rush. Using HANA-generated data within their mobile strategy is not on the immediate roadmap, andthe majority of future users has not adopted the SAP mobile platform. Future userorganisations plan to deploy HANA within the next 1-2 years, but indicate theydidnt expect their ERP to move to the HANA platform until 3-5 years. SAP HANA isperceived as important but not critical. The main reason for impleneting the productis to accelarate performance of key business processes and the area expected to mostbenefit is the Finance function.

Data challenges are future users main area of concern when it comes to SAP-related issues. Respondents raise matters related to data quality, integration

and management as their key SAP-related challenges, which is likely due to thehigh number of data interfaces. SAP solution performance and technical systemintegration are also perceived as challenging.

SAP HANA non-users are smaller, less international and

price-sensitive rms, which are less familiar with SAP

Companies currently not planning on deploying SAP HANA are likely to be lessinternational, medium-sized and lower turnaround organisations. They tend to operatemainly in the High Tech & IT sector. Similarly to respondents classified as future users,non-users are mainly influencers in SAP-related decision making. Non-users havecomparatively low awareness and low knowledge of SAP HANA.

The main reason for deciding not to pursue SAP HANA deployment is the perceivedpoor fit with their current IT portfolio. Companies are currently prioritising otherprojects or SAP HANA has not been raised as part of current IT discussions. Otherreasons also suggest that, because there is a reported lack of understanding of SAPHANA and its business benefits, there is a lack of business buy-in and budget.

Non-users indicate that the cost of solution is the main SAP-related challenge in theirorganisations. Again, this may be a function of a more limited appreciation of theproducts business benefits, and therefore value. Perception of cost as the main barrieramong non-users could also be down to this segment having relatively lower turnovers.Smaller, price-sensitive companies also consider SAP solution implementation and useto be complex.
