Red Tape Challenge’A summary of changes to theCode of Practice for Chimesin England. These changeswill not be put in placeuntil autumn 2013 as thesummary of changes needsto go before parliament.
SUMMARY OF CHANGESTO THE CODE
Current Provision - Do notsound chimes for longerthan 4 seconds at a time.
Change - Do not soundchimes for longer than 12seconds at a time.
Current Provision - Donot sound chimes moreoften than once every 3
minutes. Change - Do notsound chimes more oftenthan once every 2 minutes.

RESULTS OF THE ICA’S
Current Provision – Donot sound chimes whenthe vehicle is stationary.
Change – Do not soundchime more than once whenthe vehicle is stationary at aselling point.
Current Provision – Do notsound chimes except onapproach to a selling point.
Change – Do not soundchimes except on approachto or at a selling point.
Current Provision – Donot sound chimes whenin sight of another vehicle
which is trading.No change.
Current Provision –Do not sound chimeswhen within 50 metres
of schools (during schoolhours), hospitals, and places ofworship (on Sundays and otherrecognised day of worship).No change.
Current Provision –Do not sound chimesmore often than once
every 2 hours in the samelength of street. No change.
Current Provision –Do not sound chimeslouder than 80 dB(A) at
7.5 metres. No change.
Current Provision –Do not sound chimes asloudly in quiet areas or
narrow streets as elsewhere.Change – Do not soundchimes as loudly in areasof low background noiseor narrow streets aselsewhere.
Current Provision –(In Control Of PollutionAct 1974, not in Code
of Practice) It is an offenceto sound your chimes before12:00 noon or after 7:00pm.No change.
