Paranormal events and purported phenomena that are described in popular culture, folk, and other non-scientific bodies of knowledge, whose existence within these contexts are described as beyond normal experience or scientific explanation. Some popular subjects in the paranormal are supernatural. LQ’s Paranormal Truth takes you behind the myths, legends, and the bizarre. including creatures, ESP, clairvoyance, ghosts, UFOs, telepathy, and psychics. From episode one to twelve LQ delves into subjects such as vampires, ghosts and the unknown.

We start with vampires. Are they evil beings who roam the world at night searching for people whose blood they can feed upon or are they just a myth? They may be the best-known classic monsters of all. Most people associate vampires with Count Dracula, the legendary, blood-sucking subject of Bram Stoker’s epic novel, Dracula, which was published in 1897.

Then we have the truth about Exorcisms. Was The Exorcist fact or fiction? Does the Catholic church perform exorcisms in the twenty-

first century? Or is it just a way for filmmakers to make money from the audience?

We follow that with the truths behind a man who was known as the wickedest man in the world and the template for Ian Flemings’s character, Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the James Bond books, Aleister Crowley. As we search the legend of the Golden Dawn and the birth of witchcraft and black magic, we penetrate the world of devil worship. Does the Antichrist exist or is this just another myth, made up by people who just want to dance naked around trees under the moonlight? With archive interviews of Anton LaVey, former leader of the Church of Satan, we visit the Wicker Museum at Boscastle in Cornwall.

From there we visit the Devil’s Gate Dam which was constructed in 1920 and is the first dam built for Los Angeles County’s flood control and water conservation system. The name comes from a unique rock formation below the dam that resembled the profile of a horned devil which is no longer visible because it was covered up. Why? Then we ask why do so many people take their lives at the Pasadena Suicide Bridge. What are the police hiding?

Then we hop over to Area 51 and see for ourselves what happened in the

desert in 1971. The truly intriguing combination of an abduction event that would result in an apparent UFO crash near Edwards Air Force Base in California. The incident took place only eighteen months before one of the most active years for UFO and occupant sightings in the United States in 1973. And given the similarities in descriptions to many of those sightings, it doesn’t take too much of a stretch of the imagination to consider that this encounter was perhaps part of the same overall “program”. Have we been visited by aliens, are they still here? Only LQ’s Paranormal Truth investigates the stories others have missed.

In Arkansas, we visit the swamp where our investigators drag out the truth about Bobby Ford’s encounter with the Fouke Monster which was the subject of the 1972 semi-factual, documentary style horror feature film entitled The Legend of Boggy Creek (initially titled Tracking the Fouke Monster).

After aliens, exorcisms, and demons we go into the world of ghosts as we ghostbust the haunted locations in Wrightwood, The Cecil Hotel where The Black Dalia lived, and then the Devil’s Gate Dam before ending our journey at the Verdugo Hills Cemetery to visit the ghoulish occupants that come out at night.


Barbara Linnea Quigley (born May 27, 1958) is an American actress, film producer, model, singer, and author. She is best known as a B movie actress and is often referred to as a “scream queen” due to her frequent appearances in low-budget horror films during the 1980s and 1990s.

Born in Davenport, Iowa, Quigley first pursued her career in the late 1970s shortly after moving to Los Angeles. While working at Jack LaLanne’s health spa, she was encouraged by her friends to try modelling and also began taking acting and guitar-playing classes. After appearing as an extra in various films, Quigley got her first acting role in the Charles Band-produced film Fairy Tales(1978).

She continued receiving small parts mostly in B movies. Her first bigger part was in the 1981 slasher film, Graduation Day. Quigley followed with more films such as Savage Streets (1984) and Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984).

In 1985, Quigley appeared in the zombie horror film The Return of the Living Dead playing a teenage punk, which is considered one of her most notable roles and earned her “scream queen” status. During the second half of the 1980s, Quigley starred in a number of low-budget films following the popularization of the home video.

She repeatedly worked with the directors David DeCoteau (Creepozoids, Nightmare Sisters, and Sonority Babes in the Slime ball Bowl-O-Rama) and Kevin Tenney (Night of the Demons and Witchtrap), and appeared alongside fellow scream queens Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer. By the end of the 1980s, Quigley decided to take a different direction and starred in the first two films of Rick Sloane’s comedy series Vice Academy.

However, she continued being type cast as a victim in horror films. Aside from her acting career, Quigley is also a singer (she formed an all-female band The Skirts in the early 1980s) and an author (she wrote three books; The Linnea Quigley Bio & Chainsaw Book, I’m Screaming as Fast as I Can: My Life in B-Movies, and Skin). She is also a devoted animal rights activist and an active member of PETA. Recently Linnea has been starring and producing a reality show about her life. Over the last 40 years, Linnea Quigley has been in over 150 movies.

EPISODE5Devils Gate Dam - The Queen Mary

Shunned by indigenous peoples, home to sinister, Aleister Crowley inspired, sex magick rituals performed by the likes of Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard and more recently the scene of child disappearances, is this cursed location truly a portal to hell? It’s believed that water running through the gorge sounded like laughter, which they attributed to the coyote spirit.

In the 1920s, the narrowest place in the Arroyo Seco was dammed to control flooding, and it was named Devil’s Gate Dam, for the demon-like face of a horned figure in the natural rock formation. In the 1940s, a group of occultists became interested in the area and attempted rituals intended to open a portal to Hell. The group included rocket scientist Jack Parsons (a follower of Aleister Crowley’s Thelema) and L. Ron Hubbard (future founder of Scientology). Their goal was to bring forth a “moonchild,” which they hoped would be an Antichrist figure that would lead a Thelemic revolution. In the 1950s, after Parsons perished in an accidental explosion, several children went missing in the area around Devil’s Gate Dam. Though none of them were ever found, a serial killer took credit for two of the disappearances 13 years after they went missing.

As the man, Mack Ray Edwards, was a construction worker at the time, their bodies were hidden somewhere in the concrete of California’s freeways.Two other children seemed to have vanished into thin air, one after turning a corner in front of his parents, and the other while returning to a YMCA campsite. In both instances, the children only left supervision for a matter of seconds when they somehow disappeared. Some people believe the rituals Parsons led in the area opened a portal to Hell and made the area a magnet for all kinds of dark activity. Devil’s Gate Dam continues to draw the attention of people interested in paranormal investigation. The face in the rock remains, silently holding its secrets, the laughter of the water providing no clues to what it may have seen.


Verdugo Hills Cemetery & The Queen Mary

Host to occult rituals, the desecration of bodies, grave robbing and necrophilia, a place so vile it was the inspiration for the film Poltergeist. Can this be the most unholy graveyard in the world? This 10-acre private cemetery opened in 1922 and gained statewide notoriety in 1978 when a rainstorm eroded the already unstable hillside, unearthing corpses, coffins and mud and depositing them in neighbors’ yards. About 41 graves were left partly exposed in a 1,500-square-foot area of the graveyard.

The City of Los Angeles spent more than $200,000 collecting the corpses, storing them, and building a retaining wall to prevent any more from slipping into the neighborhood during flooding. The city of Los Angeles repaired the grounds however it was too late. Verdugo Hills of Peace Pioneer Cemetery or Verdugo Hills Cemetery had fallen into such disrepair due to mismanagement and vandalism, the cemetery lost its license in 1976.

In the dark of night you are awakened by a prolonged rapping on your front door. Half asleep, you make your way to answer the persistent knocking, vaguely aware of a growing anxiety within you. As you reach the door all becomes silent.

Checking through the peephole you see nothing, so you turn around to go back to bed, convinced this was just a prank. When you take a step the knocking resumes. Quickly, you spin back and fling the door open to catch the culprits in the act and are greeted by two young children, staring at the ground.

They ask to come in and use your phone to call their mother. Your first instinct is to help children in need, but you are overcome with an irrational fear.

Compelled to flee you tell them no and attempt to shut the door. That is when one of the children lifts his head and demands you let them in. To your horror you see his eyes, two soulless orbs as black as the abyss. Who are these creatures?

Are they human-alien hybrids in league with the fabled Men in Black seeking prey to abduct, or spawns of satan from the pit of hell determined to capture and torment your immortal soul?

Curse of St Francis & The Clown Motel

EPISODE 8At 11:57PM on the 12th of march 1928, the normally peaceful San Francisquito Canyon began to rumble. It wasn’t an earthquake. The St Francis Dam has failed and that would be one of the worst civil engineering failures in American history.

While the 120 ft high wave may have washed the bodies of the 431 people in its path out to sea, their spirits have never left. And that was only the beginning of the deaths that have resulted from the curse of St Francis.

Since the disaster many people who are residents in the surrounding area claim that they have encountered ghosts. One specific documented account I find compelling involves the Ponton family. The family moved to the area in 1976 and bought land near where the dam used to be. The property included the Ruiz Cemetery. One night a cast iron horse trough was moved several feet and completely turned around.

This trough, which was full of water, could have only been moved with a crane. There were no footprints or drag marks in the sand around the trough

and the weight of it ruled out that it was moved as a prank.

They also recalled a time when they painted the inside of a door jam and a fresh handprint of a child appeared in the paint. They often heard the cries of babies in an area around the creek bed.

The Cecil Hotel

A man was killed by a falling woman, a mother threw her newborn out the window and a decomposing body was found in a water tank - all happened at the Cecil Hotel. Located within the busy streets of downtown Los Angeles, California, it is one of the most infamous buildings in horror lore. Since being built in 1924 by hotelier William Banks Hanner, the Cecil Hotel has been plagued with mysterious and unfortunate circumstances. At least 16 different murders, suicides, and unexplained paranormal events have taken place at the hotel and it has even served as the temporary home of some of America’s most notorious serial killers.

When hotelier William Banks Hanner built the Cecil

Hotel, it was supposed to be a destination hotel for international businessmen and social elites. Hanner spent $1 million on the 700-room Beaux Arts-style hotel, complete with a marble lobby, stained-glass windows, palm trees, and an opulent staircase. But Hanner would come to regret his investment. Just two years after the Cecil Hotel opened, the world was thrown into the Great

Depression — and Los Angeles was not immune to the effects of this. Soon, the area surrounding the Cecil Hotel would be dubbed “Skid Row” and become home to thousands of homeless people. The once beautiful hotel soon gained a reputation as a meeting place for junkies, runaways, and criminals. Worse yet, the Cecil Hotel ultimately earned a reputation for violence and death.


UFO’s

EPISODE11On February 24th, 1954 United States President Dwight Eisenhower was on vacation in Palm Springs, California. In the middle of the night he made an unscheduled departure from the ranch that was hosting his visit.

The press, for some reason, reported that “Pres. Eisenhower died tonight of a heart attack in Palm Springs.” Then, just two minutes later they retracted that report and said sorry he’s fine. The next morning while the president attended church in Los Angeles, an advisor told the press that Ike actually had to be rushed to an emergency dental visit after chipping a tooth on a chicken wing.

Witnesses state however, that the chicken wing story is a coverup for the fact that the president was taken to nearby Edwards Air Force Base for a high level meeting with what are believed to be the “Nordic” variety of extraterrestrials. These “visitors” offered to share advanced technology and transcendental, otherworldly wisdom with the earthlings if we would only stop our development of nuclear weapons. Having watched the cold war for a while they were convinced we were going to blow ourselves up.

Experts believe that these clandestine meetings have been going on regularly ever since. The Fouke Monster aka Bigfoot

Since settlers first arrived in the South-West corner of what is now Arkansas, rumors of a tall, hairy man-beast that haunts the swamps of this otherwise idyllic corner of America has chilled the hearts of generations of folk that call Boggy Creek home.

The Fouke Monster is believed to be a creature similar to the legendary Bigfoot of the Pacific North-West region of the United States and the Yeti of the Himalayan Mountain range of central Asia. The creature is believed to prowl the creeks, streams and tributaries of the Sulphur River which runs through Southern Arkansas near Fouke. Although the creature shot to fame in the early 1970’s, sightings continue to this day.

A typical encounter is as follows: in May 1971, Bobby Ford told the Fouke constable that he was attacked at his house by a hairy creature that breathed heavily, had red eyes, and moved very fast. Ford said the man-like creature, which was about seven feet tall and three feet across the chest, put its arm around his shoulder and grabbed him. Ford broke free from the creature and ran, reporting that he ran so fast that he did not stop to open the front door but barreled right through it.

He was treated at a local hospital for minor scratches and shock. Ford said the creature had been around his house for several days and that there were other eye witnesses, including his brother and a hunting companion. Ford’s wife, Elizabeth, claimed that she was asleep in the front room when she saw a hairy arm with claws coming in the window. She also saw the creature’s red eyes.

On the night of the attack, Ford claimed he and his hunting companions spotted the creature at the back of Ford’s house with the aid of a flashlight. They shot at it and thought they saw it fall. The men started out toward it, but Bobby Ford ran back to the house when the group heard women screaming. Upon Ford’s return to the house, he was attacked.

The men shot at the creature several more times, but investigators never found blood. The sheriff’s department searched the area, and the only things officers found were a set of strange tracks and claw scratches on the Fords’ porch.

ROSS FALLAbout Ross FallRoss Fall started working in the visual arts in the early ’90s after graduating from Chichester College of Arts and Science with qualifications in Production Management and Film and TV technologies and practice. His first job was with Metro Video in London running their crewing department. He was responsible for scheduling and dispatching up to ten crews, working in all areas of broadcast and corporate television, daily.

After Metro, Ross started his own facilities company with another cameraman, again providing crew and equipment to corporate, broadcast, dramas, advertising, commercials, and promos as well as his own projects. Ross was also partners in an international on-line crewing agency facilitating productions on every continent, including the Antarctic.

During this time he was working as a Lighting Cameraman on many of the company’s own projects and several independent films as a Director of Photography. Ross also worked on the NHK Hi-Def truck which was the first experimental Hi-Def system in Europe.

Ross became involved with the very beginnings of digital cinematography systems in the early 2000s. Ross left the facilities company he had started to pursue this line of work, pioneering workflows and production techniques for this new technology. He was in the fortunate position of being able to translate the language of electronic exposure into the chemical one of film.

Once digital technologies became mainstream there was less need for those skills and he took a break from the industry, engaging in other pursuits. However, he was soon drawn back and returned to cinematography on features, commercials, and TV dramas. Ross produced several music promos and more recently, several films for government institutions.

Her early producing credits include the film “Heart of the Machine” as well as the TV Series “Girl Talk”, which she was also one of the lead actors. Her quick wit and sarcastic demeanour are both annoying and enchanting.
