According to the original storyboard, next came a shot of the huntsman. I wanted to follow this as it would help to give him an appearance before the tempo of the trailer graduates. However at this point, the tension level is relatively low so I decided to retiming the shot as well as slowing it down. This allowed the action in the shot to match the slow/ creepy sound playing.

As instructed in the storyboard, I am should now be adding an intertitle to the trailer. I also made these you. However, through and having done some research on intertitles earlier in my blogging. I am aware that they should convey a sense or feel of the genre

of the media product. For this reason, I decided to use chiller as the font for the intertitles and tag lines. I decided to also make the font colour red, to again, convey the genre to the audience

Tag lines used at this point: From the creatures of AnomieI chose to use this tag line because I found out through my research that advertising such as this is done to almost reassure the target audience that the trailer is a success as the director/producer of a previous film took part in producing this which automatically implies that this film “is a success”

Chosen font: chiller I also decided to add cross hatch onto the tag line as it again, means that the whole trailer ha a systematic flow or colour to it. Enabling it look much more professional

“From the producers of ANOMIE.”I chose to make up a film title similar to a thriller or horror, allowing the audience to believe that the producers are expert when it comes to such genre; subsequently leading to them watching/owning it

The tag line above was immediately followed by another; “Comes this epic fairy tale ” “With a twist”

Maintaining the same font helped to create a sense of continuity and professionalism

Next was a high angle shot of red riding hood laying down in the woods. As this shot is is very eye catchy, I did not want it to overpower the previous shots in the trailer. For this reason I decided to fade it into the scene.

This choice allowed the trailer to flow rather than being “parts that have been put together.”As shown in the storyboard the next shot is of the basket at the lower left of the shot. However, through my research on trailers I am aware that shots from the same scene are not always placed next to each other, having said this, I wanted to be show some creativity with this scene so for this reason; I decided to place a panning shot of red riding hood’s body. This would help to create a sense of a preferred reading method as the audience are made to believe that snow white is dead, and that is the reason for the items in her basket being littered/thrown on the floor.

Continuity

The two shot from the same scene have been placed right next to each other; this was because of one main reasons; to show some creativity skills from KEM Productions as we have tried very hard to avoid being conventional

Due to the fact that this is a panning shot, its was very slow. I decided that a slow motion effect/ retiming would be best suited for the smooth running of this shot with the rest of the trailer sequence.

similarly, this panning shot of the basket is also was also time consuming as it included a lot of sequences which were not necessarily important to the betterment of the trailer. As the editor, I had to decide what elements are important and ones which were not. Due to this, I cut off sequences following the first pan of the basket.

At this point, I decided to view the trailer so far, for some inspiration as well any improvements that need to be made to the trailer so far. I found that the lightning of the trailer did not correlate with the setting as well as genre. By this I mean the lighting was too light. Through previous research I found that dark lightning best suits what the genre of the trailer; thriller tries to convey for this reason, I decided to add some sort of special effect that could convey a gloomy/ dark message to the audience. Ensuring the aimed reading method of the director as well as the producer is achieved.

I used the visual effects tool to find the best suited effects for red riding hood.

After some thorough search, I decided to use cross hatch

Continuity

However, although I had found a suitable visual effect, I had to ensure that it is not to some extent over used. For this reason I decided to ensure the same pressure, amount of the same effect it used through out the trailer; to ensure that it does not look “messy” or unorganised. This use of visual effects also helps to show some creativity during my editing.

I chose cross hatch firstly because I had used it during the viewing of my company name (KEM Production) I also chose cross hatch because it conveyed a message of dark, gloomy and old like kind off feel to it, which made it easier to convey a the setting as well as genre to the target audience.

At first I tried to use aged paper to present the setting and time of the story. however, this eliminated the effect or amount of tension which is required from a thriller, so for this reason I decided to stick to cross hatch

While editing a specific part in the trailer I found that Intensity: 0.23Sepia amount: 0.32 Best suited this shot, for this reason I decided to try it on the rest of the trailer.

When I tried this on the previous edits of the trailer I found that some scenes/shots although did not work well with Intensity: 0.23Sepia amount: 0.32 They worked well around this amount. For instance, for the shot above Intensity: 24.58Sepia amount: 0.32 Having said this, I would have to start off with the amount I started off with, am if this does not work with the shot or convey the same message or lighting working around these numbers would help me to find the best suited amount of sepia and intensity for the specific shot.

After placing and organising cross hatch onto the timeline my next task was to increase the tempo of the video. For this reason shot timings needed to be much shorter and straight to the point,; leaving minimum time for the audience to digest the whole storyline, ensuring that they subsequently go and watch the full movie in the cinema.

Shorter shots and retiming due to speed and pace of the trailer at this point.

Through research of trailers in general, I found that most trailers included more inter titles when the trailer’s tempo gets faster as the narration is needed as the audience is given little or no time to digest whatever made be happening in the trailer. For this reason. I included inter titles which could be classified as “typical” such as “This summer” This immediately helps to inform the time the film would be available in the cinemas. With this meant i had to consult my director and producer about producing some voice overs for the narration of the story. As soon as this was done, as the editor, it made my work so much more straight forward as it allowed me to know how create a certain mood or tension through the use of sounds rather than just through the use of the rushes.

Above are all the voice overs which we gathered through the use of a voice recorder. However, selections had to be made as some could not achieve the standards my director and producer (and to some extend myself) wanted it to. EG: pto

Having the voice overs allowed me to be much more creative with the rushes, and allowed me to appreciate them much more as I could then use them to create much more deeper meaning rather than just face value ones. For instance, extra shots like the one above which was only to be used as “extra shots” was used to create a much more creative meaning. I say this because the voice over “there are terrible secretes out there around the corner” was used to present the shot above. The use of an over the shoulder shot helped to create that tension require for a thriller it also created mystery.

At this point my main aims were to place the voice overs as directed on the script and to include some sound effects to the trailer as these help to heighten anticipation and tension.

Voice overs placed on timeline where instucted. However, when I listen to the voice overs simulaniously watching the trailer I noticed that an overdose of voice overs made the trailer seem abit “ammaturish” so for this reason I decided to only include a few. This meant that where I did choose it had to add something to the trailer. I especially chose to include a voice over at the end of the trailer due to the famous lines “but granmother….” as in my view this in almost the best way to conclude as it helps to craete some sort of common ground with the target audience; realting to them in some ways.

After adding sounds such as man screaming sound effects, woman crying sound effects, paper flipping sound effects, I decided to round up the trailer as it was pretty much almost one minute already. I had to continuously be aware of the duration if the whole trailer as it is only a teaser trailer. For this reason, I decided to be conventional in the way I end the trailer as any other way would be time consuming. Through my pre production research, I found that the name of the film was viewed at the end of the trailer as well as the cinema release date and this is what I applied to Red Ridding Hood Trailer.
