Red Bull X-Fighters Dubai

2013 will be held on April

12 under the patronage

of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan

bin Mohammed bin Rashid

Al Maktoum, crown prince

of Dubai and chairman of

the Dubai sports council.

Freestyle motocross asks a lot of a

motorcycle, so to cope with all the

trickery, riders make small but

critical changes to a standard bike

otocross handhold.

2013 Calendar:

MODIFIEDMOTOS

8-3 Mexico City, MEX

12-4 Dubai, UAE

11-5 Glen Helen, USA

1-6 Osaka, JPN

19-7 Madrid, ESP

7-9 Pretoria, RSA

HANDHOLD/GRIP HOLES

Holes are cut into the plastic

coverings just beneath the seat.

This may also mean that the

sub-frame needs cutting and

re-welding to give space to

perform seat-grab tricks.

FOOTPEGS

Most rider opt for wider footpegs so

they have greater stability. They also

help to better distribute the force of

heavy landings across the foot.

STABILISERThis dial on the handlebarssets the rigidity of the steering. For many tricks it’s vital that the steering stays pointed forward when the rider’s hands are off the bars.

SEATPart of the foam beneath the seat’s covering may be removed to give riders more room when performing tricks.

ROTATING HANDLE

This is a new bike element

introduced by some riders, such

as Thomas Pagés. The device

makes it easier to do body varial

tricks, where the rider has to spin

his body while off the bike.

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council

Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour will be returning to Dubai for the third year in

a row, on April 12 for a breathtaking performance at Mohammed Bin

Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai.

Supported by du under its live entertainment platform “du Live!” and in

association with Emaar and Ford, Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2013 is

bringing fans a unique experience that promises to leave them on the edge

of their seats; with bigger tricks, a more stunning location and, as always, a

lineup of the very best FMX stars in the world.

“We are thrilled to once again be able to present the jaw-dropping action

that is the Red Bull X-Fighters, in such an iconic Dubai location. We are proud

to be associated with Red Bull for the Red Bull X-Fighters and Red Bull Racing,

and “du Live!“ will continue to bring the best in live entertainment to the

UAE,“ said Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communica-

tions, du.

2012 saw the crowning of a new champion in 21-year-old wonderkid Levi

Sherwood and the record-setting young star is back this year to defend his

title. However, if last year’s Tour taught us anything it’s that there is a host of

riders out there who’ll be gunning for the Kiwi’s title.

It might be French hotshot Tom Pagés, who was narrowly pipped at the post

in Sydney last year. It could be Spain’s Dany Torres, the 2011 champion

who’ll be determined to ght his way back to dominance once more. Or it

could be a newcomer, a rookie who rocks the series just as Sherwood did by

winning on his debut back in 2009.

One thing’s for sure, with six rounds, spread across ve continents, this year’s

champion will not only need big tricks but also incredible levels of stamina,

consistency, and gritty determination.

With amazing locations, stunning action and erce competition from the best

riders on the planet, 2013 is all set to be another landmark year for Red Bull

X-Fighters.

Red Bull X-Fighters Dubai 2013 is supported by du and in association

with Emaar, Ford, Swatch as well as Bridgestone, Dubai Sports Council,

The Dubai Mall and MBC Action.

Tickets are available on www.redbullxghters.com, www.timeouttickets.com

and all Virgin Megastore branches across the UAE.

X-Fighters is home to some pretty wild and wondrous folk…

THE NAME’S MADDISON, ROBBIE MADDISON. Red Bull X-Fighters

legend Robbie Maddison has done some pretty crazy things in his time.

Not only did he made popular the super tricky body varial - The Volt in

the series, but he’s also famed for some pretty spectacular jumps, such

as leaping across Greece’s Corinth Canal and back-ipping an open

Tower Bridge in London. Last year, though, he took on one of his biggest

challenges – acting as a stunt double for none other than Daniel Craig

in the most recent James Bond movie ‘Skyfall’. Maddo went to Istanbul

where he performed some precarious tricks aboard a motorbike on the

roof of the city’s famed covered bazaar, as well as performing a danger-

ous jump through an open window into the market below. Maddo’s

most recent exploits are even wilder. The Australian went to a warplane

graveyard in Tucson, Arizona, rearranged 50 rusting ying machines

into a course and jumped his way through the lot!

FORMULA FOR SUCCESS. One of Maddo’s favorite pastimes when at

home is to take part in celebrity races at the Formula One Australian

Grand Prix. That’s in regular saloon cars though. Compatriot Josh

Sheehan can boast of being let loose in the real F1 thing – well, almost.

Late last year Sheehan was invited to the UK base of three-time F1

world champions Red Bull Racing and as an incentive they let the FMX

star have an afternoon in the team’s simulator, a machine regularly

used by triple world champion Sebastian Vettel. Sheehan’s verdict: “I

had an absolute blast! They set up the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne

for me – which was a pretty awesome experience.. Everything from the

pedals to the steering to the force feedback… you can feel every bump

on the track, every corner. It was amazing!”
