Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al

Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council.

Dubai joined the Red Bull X-Fighters calendar in 2011 and immediately the

event proved a big hit with the riders, and with the crowds who turned out in

droves to see the competition. This time out, however, the event switches from

The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence to the heart of the city, on the

spectacular 3.5km Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, in Downtown Dubai,

billed as ‘The Centre of Now.’

The return of Red Bull X-Fighters to Dubai, that is supported by du and with

the collaboration of Emaar and Ford, follows the success of last year’s event,

which had brought the world’s top Freestyle Motocross Tour to the region and

introduced its brightest competitors. In 2012, over 20,000 spectators

gathered to witness the “Flying Bikes” taking over the sandy beaches of Dubai.

The extended World Tour 2013 kicked off in Mexico City (MEX) on March 8,

where Thomas Pages (FRA) won the season opener in front of 38,000

enthusiastic spectators. Now, 12 riders will head to Dubai, followed by Glen

Helen (USA), Osaka (JAP) and Madrid (ESP). The World Tour’s nale will be

in Pretoria (RSA) on September 7, 2013.

Created back in 2001, the Red Bull X-Fighters concept has grown to become

the biggest and most respected freestyle motocross tour on the planet,

featuring the world's best riders, throwing down mad tricks in stunning

locations across the globe. The best FMX riders in the world are set to step it

up once again and push the sport forward as they visit brand new locations

and bring the sport of freestyle motocross to new countries around the globe.

“We are thrilled to see Dubai host the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour for the

third year in a row,” said Alberto Chahoud, Area Communication Manager

for Red Bull - MEA. “The iconic venue will add to the glamour and excitement

that await spectators.” Chahoud thanked His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his generous patronage and continu-

ous support; he also paid tribute to the local authorities, various sponsors and

supporting media.

Red Bull X-Fighters Dubai 2013 is supported by du, with the cooperation of

Emaar, Ford and Swatch, as well as Bridgestone, Dubai Sports Council, The

Dubai Mall and MBC Action.

Tickets are available on www.redbullxghters.com and at all Virgin

Megastore branches across the UAE.

Frenchman Tom Pages had a capacity crowd gasping in disbelief with his

electrifying freestyle motocross tricks en route to winning the Red Bull

X-Fighters season opener in Mexico City’s raried atmosphere. Mexico’s

Erick Ruiz had an inspiring debut performance.

MEXICO CITY – Tom Pages of France won the opening round of the 2013

Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour on Friday with a thrilling FMX performance

in Mexico City, beating Dany Torres of Spain in an action-packed nal to

the delight of 38,000 enthusiastic spectators. Defending tour champion

Levi Sherwood of New Zealand took third place in the Monumental Plaza

de Toros bullring, in the rst of six stops on four continents. Local hero Erick

Ruiz of Mexico had a spectacular Red Bull X-Fighters debut with a superb

run with polished tricks but was eliminated in the opening round.

Returning to the FMX hotbed of Mexico City for the rst time since 2010,

11 of the world’s best riders completed breathtaking jumps of up to 15

metres high and 30 metres in distance over a mound of dirt piled 13 metres

high in the centre of the cavernous bullring. At an altitude of 2,240

metres/7,350 feet, Mexico City’s thin air robbed the engines of

horsepower and forced the riders in the world’s most prestigious FMX tour

to make adjustments. Mexico’s colourful bullghting traditions were kept

alive throughout the evening. Pages also won the Swatch Best Move

award with his Special Flip.

It was the second career victory for Pages and an emotional triumph for the

effervescent Frenchman, who was wearing a jersey with Eigo Sato’s name

on it as a tribute to the Japanese FMX athlete who sustained fatal injuries

in a training accident last month in Japan.

Pages nailed three difcult tricks – Special Flip off the seat of his bike, the

Volt that left him spinning in mid-air and the Flair -- turning 540 degrees in

mid-air. “I don’t know if this will be my year or not. I’ll keep practicing and

try to learn new tricks.”
