Red and White 2011 Homecoming Queen and Her Court By: Colin Dietrich Once again, the Wauseon tradition of homecoming took place the week of October 3rd-8th. It was a fun filled week, with lots of school spirit and a great time for students to socialize. As part of the tradition, the student body voted and selected a queen and an attendant from each class. The five young ladies were Ellie Hayati, Stephanie Whitman, Brooke Gerken, Alex Drummer and Abbi Bell. Ellie Hayati felt very honored and surprised when the cheerleaders yelled her name as freshman attendant. When asked about it being a once in a lifetime opportunity, Ellie stated, “ Absolutely. I’m so excited to be a part of this.“ Ellie is very involved in high school activities, which include tennis, FCA, GCF, Spanish club, and also youth group. Ellie likes to spend time with friends and family, as well as, spend a lot of time outside. She is also amazing at tennis and enjoys that in her free time. Being a freshman, Ellie Hayati, wasn’t sure what to expect at the dance, however, she was very excited and she knew, “It would be a good time.” Ellie attended the dance with a big group of friends, which is honestly the way to go. Her favorite part of spirit week is wacky day and, of course, red and white day. She absolutely loved going all out crazy for those days. The Red and White and rest of the student body would like to congratulate Miss Ellie Hayati. Stephanie Whitman was very excited to represent the sophomore class on this years court. Stephanie is involved in activities such as soccer, band, JETS Club, and also Art Club. Spirit week is an exciting time for many students and it isn’t any different for Stephanie. Her favorite part of the week is seeing everyone getting involved in showing their spirit. Stephanie was most looking forward to Saturday night with her friends. She attended the dance with Axel Bueter and friends. She believes this whole experience is a once in lifetime opportunity and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Some of her main hobbies include playing soccer, drawing, playing piano, and being with friends. Congratulations to Stephanie Whitman! Representing the junior class was Brooke Gerken. She was also very excited and surprised when she was announced attendant. Brooke is involved in many things, such as, volleyball, basketball, National Honor Society, FCA and GCF. The thing so most looked forward to was the dance. She attended the dance with her boyfriend, Brooke Boulton, Russell McClarren, Emily Robinson, Morgan Murry, and Jordan Kauffman. Brooke also enjoyed seeing all of the school spirit throughout the week and hoped for an all around good week. It didn’t disappoint. Congratulations to Brooke! “I felt very honored and it meant a lot to know so many people voted for me,” said Alex Drummer about being nominated by her classmates. Her parents were proud, and her grandma’s reaction really meant a lot to Alex. Senior attendant, Alex Marie Drummer, is involved in cheerleading, NHS, JETS club, and French club. Alex tried to make the most of the opportunity, as she knew this was a once in a lifetime chance. She was just looking to have lots of fun and enjoy the experience and the dance. Alex attended the dance with Mr. Wade Wooley and had a great time at the dance. Her favorite part of the week is dressing up. “ I love dressing up and seeing others get into it. It’s great to see all that school spirit” said Alex about the whole week. In her free time, Alex enjoys fighting for world peace! Congratulations Alex! Indians Win an Easy Oneby Dugan Shadbolt

Homecoming night the Wauseon Indians ran and passed their way to a huge margin of victory. The Indian defense really stepped up and shut the locos out until the final drive of the game when Moreno a freshmen for the locos finally found pay dirt.Other than the final drive it was all Indians all night. The Indians had 385 yards on the ground, as well as 12 completions for 190yards in the air. The Indians had 575 yards of total offense to Montpelier’s 162 yards. Wauseon had 6 players find the end zone. The first was running back Dustin Makula who broke away to score from 15 yards out. After a snap went over the head of the Montpelier punter for a safety, Troy Lind got his first score of the night on a hard run from the 5 yard line. The next two Loco possessions ended in three and outs then taking over the ball both times quarterback Ty Suntken need just one play a piece to score two touchdowns. Both to wide receiver Adam Moose the first was a 46 yard toss the second was a 61 yard bomb. The Wauseon “D” got their first score of the night when Jake Trejo stepped in front of pass and showed his great athletic ability as he took it 46 yards to the house to make the score 44-0. The next scoring drive for the Indians was Linds second touchdown. The Indians offense blocked well as Troy punched it in from 11 yards out. The second team players as well as JV and freshmen started pouring into the game in the blow out win and a couple played very well. Jacob Whitcomb scored from 20 yards out on long run. Nate Suntken the younger brother of varsity star quarterback Ty Suntken got this first varsity touchdown on a long 20 yard run. It was a great win for Wauseon on Homecoming night and after a win against Evergreen last week the Indians are set to go with the Blue Streaks in the biggest game of the year. So come out and support the football team!

Freshman Class Wins Float Competition by Jose Chavez

Freshman Float: The winning freshman class did a good job representing the toughness of WHS. With the theme “Deface the Locos”, they were accurate on the events that occurred Friday night(65-8). The knocked out train driver was a good add. Good work freshman class.

Sophomore Floats: “Chew the Loco’s,was the theme for the artistic sophomore class. The impressive Indian head shows the hard work put into the float. This float implies Indian pride and WHS spirit. Good job sophomores.

Junior Class: The juniors showed great creativity on their floats. With the theme “Stop them in their tracks”, they showed great detail and really captured what their theme was all about. Good job juniors.

Senior Floats: The seniors were sadly disqualified : ( . However, their float showed diversity and pride towards our sports. With the theme “Goodbye Seniors”, they did an excellent job. Good job seniors.

Cutest CouplesBy: Alex Drummer

Homecoming 2011 brought out many couples from WHS, and the Red & White caught up with a few of them. In the top left, Quincy Brock and Tre Henricks pose for a quick picture in the hall. The couple has been dating for nine happy months. Quincy says that she did help pick out his outfit, “but he does have good taste!” Searra Clausen and Noah Hester (top middle) have been dating six months and had a fantastic time at homecoming. Searra admits that Noah actually picked out her outfit! I think we can all agree he did a great job. The beautiful Taylor Crew and her boyfriend of a year and ten months, Lorenzo McKeever, appear in the top right sporting their top hats. Their favorite part of homecoming was all the dancing, and their least favorite was the end. Virginia Konwinski (bottom left) brought a freshman from Delta, Jacob Stuard, to homecoming with her. She says they’re just friends, but they had a lot of fun together. Mary Kate D’Esposito and Trevor Dominique (bottom middle) pose for a quick picture out on the dance floor. They’re not dating though because MK says, “Baby boy Trev is too much of a pimp to be tied down by a girl.” The two had a good time at homecoming and kept a close eye on the Michigan and Tigers game scores throughout the night. Last, but not least, we have WHS’s beautiful homecoming queen, Abbi Bell, and her boyfriend of four months, Jake Trejo. Abbi’s says their favorite part of the dance was “seeing all of our friends and the cute dresses!” However, she said, “It went way too fast!”

Snaking Through The Streets

by Jacob Bray Over 50 years ago, a tradition was started at Wauseon High School. The Snake Dance is one of the oldest traditions in Wauseon. Starting at the firehouse, the Snake Dance weaves through the streets of Wauseon and ends up at the football field. Waiting for the students at the field are a group of fire fighters ready to start the bonfire. At the fire, the pep band gets the crowd fired up. Then, after a short speech from Mr. Hanak, the Queen and her court gave speeches. After the great speeches from the stunning Ellie Hayati and gorgeous Stephanie Whitman, and fabulous speeches from the breathtaking Alex Drummer and the beautiful Abbi Bell, came speeches from the senior football players. After some cheers lead by the cheerleaders and a speech from Mr. Hanak, the fired-up students went their separate ways to plan their outfit for “crazy red and white day” and to decorate their respective hallways. A few students attended the volleyball game to cheer for our girls in a 3 game win over Swanton. Overall, one of the oldest traditions in Wauseon High School history did it’s job once again of getting the student body ready for the final day of spirit week, as well as the homecoming game. This tradition will undoubtedly continue through the years.

Fall Blood Drive is a Huge Success by Dugan Shadbolt

On September 29th, fifty seven WHS students signed

in to give blood. Most donors committed to giving one pint of blood, however seven people were able to give double reds which is two pints. The double donors this

year were: Wade Wooley, Jake Patterson, Mike Reckner, Austin Johnson, Trenton Wells, Devon Harris, and John

Giordano. After a few people couldn’t complete their pints or were turned away, there were 43 productive

donors. Adding in the double red donors, the WHS Fall Bloodmobile produced 50 productive units of blood. The goal of 42 units was more than met with the help of all of the first time and returning donors. Other than the actual donors, there were several volunteers from the Anatomy and Physiology class who served as greeters at the door, donor room escorts, and canteen monitors. A big thanks

goes out to all who volunteered in any capacity, and Student Council is looking forward to seeing even more

donors on April 2nd for the Spring Bloodmobile.

Blue Mountain State @

Overland University

Although BMS QB Alex Moran broke a 25 year old school record, he has peaked. Overland U wins

big.

Its been a tough start for Blue Mountain State with new starting QB Alex Moran. But Moran has been playing better lately, so the Mountain Goats get back on track

with a Win.

With the reinstatment of captain Thad Castle, the Mountain Goats get their defense back. QB Alex Moran comes up big in a BMS

victory.

Its all about the QB match up.In this one, Braden Smith of the Fighting Camels, and Tommy

The Fighting Camels are 1-3 while the Red Foxes are 1-4. That being said, Braden Smith leads

California University of Pennsylvania @ Slippery

Rock

SRU beat a good Indiana State of Pennsylvania team two weeks ago. Slippery Rock gets the win.

Peter Lalich has a monster game, California University

of Pennsylvania wins big over Slippery Rock.

With Cody Endres at QB, The Rock gets the W in a nail-biter against Peter Lalich and the

Man U wins 3-0 behind a Nani hat-trick.

Wayne Rooney is possibly the best player in professional soccer

today. Man U wins big.

Omaha Nighthawks @ Las Vegas Locos

It should be a close one with both teams being 1-1, however, Maurice Clarett and Troy Smith lead the Nighthawks to a victory.

Troy Smith has been very effective in the passing and

easy.

Between the slick running game of Maurice Clarett and the

passing game of Troy Smith, the Nighthawks win big.
