Recycling and disposal of vehicle parts
Only the vehicle parts detailed in this leaflet are permitted at the recycling centres listed on the front
page. In the table, EWC codes are European Waste Catalogue materials classification; * indicates a
hazardous item requiring careful handling, such as an item that could contain liquid.
On arrival with chargeable items or materials, site visitors should contact a staff member before
unloading, show them the items or materials, pay with credit or debit card, and obtain and retain a
receipt.
These vehicle parts cannot be accepted at any recycling site, because they contain small explosive
charges: airbags, items containing airbags – from steering wheels and dashboards to seats and
upholstery – and seat belt tensioners or belt assemblies containing tensioners.
Items that contain or could contain asbestos – e.g. brake pads, clutch assemblies – can be accepted as a
vehicle part, see price list for applied charges. Such items must be double bagged in plastic and sealed
before being taken to one of seven sites that accept asbestos (call site in advance to check space is
available): Bridgwater (Saltlands), Frome, Highbridge, Minehead, Street, Taunton (Priorswood), and
Yeovil.
Before being brought to one of the 10 sites, items that could contain fuel, water, lubricants or other
fluids – e.g. brake lines or cylinders, fuel pumps or heater water systems – must be fully drained, and
any part that could hold an electrical charge, must be discharged.
All vehicles and persons using a site must adhere to the Visitor's Health & Safety policy – ask Viridor staff
for details – and customers MUST take reasonable steps to protect themselves and other users of the
facilities, including supplying their own personal protective equipment & clothing, if necessary. Consider
manual handling issues before taking heavy vehicle parts to a recycling centre. Recycling centre staff are
not able to assist with the unloading or moving particularly heavy items.
In case of a dispute, customers should contact the site manager. The site manager will have the final
decision about whether to accept waste and what charges will be applied at that time. If there are any
issues regarding the site manager's decisions, pricing structure or how facilities are being operated,

This service is open to members of the public bringing in domestically generated vehicle parts.
Businesses, including traders dealing in vehicle parts, are excluded from using these facilities. There is no
restriction on the quantity of vehicle parts accepted on site or the number of visits to dispose of vehicle
parts. Deposited parts become the property of Viridor and are not available for purchase or “swapping”.
These sites are operated by Viridor Ltd; all site staff are direct Viridor employees.

Charges, as detailed below, apply to deposit gas bottles and construction and demolition materials,
which are not classed as household waste, at all of Somerset's 16 recycling centres.
Gas and Oxygen Bottles - empty, part or full cylinders
(Gas bottles can be deposited at any recycling centre, though a better and cheaper solution may be to return
empty gas bottles to the original supplier or manufacturer - the name of manufacturer can usually be found on
the side of the bottle).

Construction and Demolition Materials
Construction and demolition materials such as stone, rubble, clay and concrete; also sinks, tiles and
toilets made from ceramics or porcelain. There is no charge for crockery or clay flower pots,
although we ask for these to be put in hardcore skips.
No charge for a single carrier bag equivalent or less
• £3.90 per bag (including part) size equivalent to more than a single carrier bag
• £20.20 small van or trailer (estimated carrying capacity up to 250kg)
• £40.50 medium van/trailer (estimated carrying capacity up to 500kg)
• £78.05 large van/trailer (estimated carrying capacity up to 1 tonne)
