SPECIAL MASS FOR NATIONAL MIGRATION WEEK

Save the date for January 4, 2016 for the diocesan-wide observance of National Migration Week to be held during the 4:30 p.m. Vigil at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola in Palm Beach Gardens. Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito will be the main celebrant. A light reception will follow in the parish hall. For information call Elena M. Garcia at 561-360-3327. National Migration Week 2016 will take place January 3 – 10 with the theme, "A Stranger and You Welcomed Me.” This highlights the call to welcome the stranger and its important role in the lives of faithful Christians. Migrants are often unfamiliar with the local tongue and customs of the new country and need the support of local communities so the migrant is better able to adjust. National Migration Week 2016 picks up on the theme of welcome and, in doing so, calls on each of us to welcome the stranger among us. For more information visit: www.usccb.org/about/migration-and-refugee-services/national-migration-week

A light reception in the parish hall will follow. This is sponsored by Diocese of Palm Beach Office of Marriage & Family Life. For more information, call 561 -775-9557 or e-mail [email protected]

Message from “40 Days for Life”: Make a difference and show up!

“Silence in the face of evil is evil. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer). They say we are living in post-Christian times. These are not the days of silence or for sitting on the sidelines! Let your love for God propel you out of your comfort zone and onto the sidewalk in front of Presidential Women's Center (abortion facility) off 45 St and Village Blvd. (Behind Pollo Tropical and Wendy's). during the “40 Days for Life.”

starting February 10 and ending March 20; Mon-Sat: 7am-6pm and Sunday: 3pm-5pm. www.40daysforlife.com/westpalmbeach

RESOURCES TO OBSERVE THE JUBILEE OF MERCY Pope Francis proclaimed an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, a Holy Year, to be held and observed by the Catholic Church December 8, 2015 through November 20, 2016. The Jubilee of Mercy is a special time for the Church in which the faithful are to become more merciful in our own lives and bring God’s mercy to others. When we show mercy to others, we are serving as witnesses of the mercy that God constantly extends to all of us. This is why the motto for the Jubilee of Mercy is Merciful like the Father. To assist our faith community during this time, the Diocese of Palm Beach created a special web page on our website that includes resources for observing the year. We’ve developed a guide for parishes, schools, religious classes, ministries and families to utilize in practicing Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy, suggestions of volunteer and support opportunities, Masses and other forms of prayer as well as information on making a pilgrimage and the significance of Holy Doors during a Jubilee Year. Throughout the Jubilee of Mercy, the diocese will continue to update the guide with additional suggestions and information. We expect to list Jubilee of Mercy events on our website’s Events Calendar so our entire faith community can unite in prayer and practice mercy together. We encourage the parishes and ministries of our diocese to contribute to both our guide and Events Calendar. Visit web page at www.diocesepb.org/jubileeofmercy

BABY ITEMS NEEDED On the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade on January 22nd, we want to make a positive contribution to unmarried, pregnant women so that we might support them as they prepare for motherhood. In

our church, on the weekends of January 9-10 and 16-17, you will find a portable crib in

which to place the following needed items for layettes: NEW or hand-knitted blankets, NEWBORN size sweaters, NEWBORN caps and booties, NEWBORN onesies, undershirts,

hooded towels, receiving blankets, NEWBORN or size 1 disposable diapers and Ivory soap bars. Local members of THE CHRIST CHILD SOCIETY, a national volunteer organization, will make and distribute the layettes to needy mothers. The layette consists of new and handmade clothes diapers and accessories needed by the new-born. Anyone interested in joining the local chapter of THE CHRIST CHILD SOCIETY should call Anne Kroha at 694-2697.

You learn….

to pray by praying to have a personal relationship with God to use the scriptures and your own writings, as a door to intimacy with God. to listen for and recognize the voice of the Beloved. TO FIND PEACE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS IN YOUR LIFE REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH

What people say about the Impact of the Workshops in their lives:

I am more patient with my loved ones. I was angry, now I am at peace with myself and with others. I was addicted, now I am free. I get along with my boss and fellow workers. I am clear about my purpose in life. God seems closer to me. My home life used to be in shambles; we are growing in

understanding of one another

The Workshop will start at St. Ignatius of Loyola on Monday January 11th in English.

Opening session will start from 7:30pm-9:30pm

We will meet at the Chapel for the next 14 Mondays, and be signing up participants this

coming January 10th at the 8:45 & 10:30 Masses Outside the entrances of the Church.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

HELPFUL HINTS

Your pledges are rolling in! If you have not made your pledge yet, please do! Due to the many different methods of payments, there are a few things that you can do that will help us keep things running smoothly:

• When using your own bank’s “Bill Pay” option, please

indicate in memo section “PLEDGE” and/or change the

Payee name to “St. Ignatius Family Life Center”.

• Please do not combine your Campaign Pledge with your

weekly offertory. Separate checks are necessary; please use your check “memo” to designate your intent.

• When you receive your reminder letter, we will have included a special “PLEDGE PAYMENT” envelope which you are welcome to drop in the weekend collection basket, or mail back to our office. Please do not use your weekly offertory envelopes for your pledge payments. This helps assure the posting process is accurate. Please do not use the larger initial pledge envelopes. There are white and gold “PLEDGE PAYMENT” envelopes available in the pews and at the back of the church for your convenience. Please call Barbara 561-622-2565 if you have any questions regarding campaign.

The Epiphany of the Lord Sunday, 3 Jan 2016 Reflection for Young People

The astrologers in the Magi story went through quite a journey in search of the baby Jesus. They obviously believed in him and had faith in the star. Have you ever “followed a star”? Have you ever gone after a dream or an ideal you believed in? Are you still going after it? What gives you the energy to keep going? How do you know it is worth it? The gifts brought by the Magi have significance. Gold is a symbol of wealth and fidelity. Frankincense is burned to purify the atmosphere by releasing an aromatic and pleasing smell. For centuries, Native Americans have burned holy smoke in order to bless and purify themselves, and monks have watched incense rise to the sky as a symbol of their prayers ascending to God.Myrrh is a kind of resin or oil used for anointing and embalming. It is a symbol of comfort and soothing (who doesn’t enjoy a rubdown?) but it is also a foreshadowing of death. How were these gifts symbolic for Jesus? What three gifts would be symbolic of you and your life so far? Explain the symbolism.

Evangelio Mt 2, 1-12
