James Caan CBE

CHAIRMAN

Management team

Having founded Recruitment Entrepreneur in 2014, former Dragons’ Den star and serial entrepreneur, James Caan CBE plays a pivotal role in shaping each business within the portfolio.

James has been in recruitment for over 30 years and invests in recruitment companies of all sizes across various geographies and sectors. Alexander Mann, his first recruitment business, sold in 2013 for £260 million. His second recruitment venture, Humana International, grew to 140 offices across 30 countries. His third sale was a collection of six recruitment companies to Graphite Capital in 2014 for £100m.

As chairman, James takes an active role in the investment process, working closely with the Recruitment Entrepreneur team to support portfolio partners. His hands-on approach and mentoring enable entrepreneurs to learn from his considerable experience in founding and scaling recruitment businesses.

With 3 million followers, James was named LinkedIn’s second most influential voice of 2017. His global network, both online and offline, has assisted portfolio CEOs in attracting the best talent, clients and candidates to their businesses.


Gareth’s 25 year career as a recruiter encompassed

roles based in London, Sydney, Singapore and Hong

Kong. Much of his career has entailed launching

new businesses into new markets and locations. He

successfully established, scaled and exited his own

recruitment business. As Recruitment

Entrepreneur’s leader for Australia and Asia,

Gareth’s focus is on the identification, development

and support of recruitment businesses for RE’s APAC

portfolio.

Abid HamidGROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Abid trained as a lawyer working in corporate

finance before entering recruitment 25 years

ago. He’s worked in over 35 countries in various

CEO roles and was investor and director of a UK

FTSE250 company, as well as a non-executive

director for multiple recruitment companies. He

founded ARBP, which trained recruiters in 22

countries and has a wealth of experience in

building and managing teams. Industry

specialisations include oil & gas, security and

professional services.

Mark BrunningCHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Mark is a strategic recruitment leader with a

history of successfully launching and growing

international staffing businesses to achieve

market-leading results.

Previously COO at Hays PLC, he has executed

many transformational deals in the UK, Europe

and Asia. He has joined RE to further expand the

portfolio into new global regions, providing new

opportunities for present and future investments.

Greg HollisREGIONAL MANAGING DIRECTOR

Greg is focused on promoting origination outside of

London. He oversees origination deals working

closely with CEOs across planning, strategy and

delivery. Having lead and developed businesses for

over 22 years, Greg has a wealth of experience

gained across multiple sectors, building small

businesses and being part of a leadership team

within a global leader. Greg is best placed to develop

our northern ventures and to drive the progress of

entrepreneurs within the portfolio.


Samantha ProctorGROUP MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

With over 20 years of delivering marketing,

communications, digital, PR and events

programmes for global events across multiple

industry sectors, Sam brings a wealth of

knowledge and experience to the portfolio.

Having spent the past 10 years specialising in

recruitment, she sets the strategy for all

externally-facing marketing activity for the

Recruitment Entrepreneur portfolio and

partner brands.

Fergus Taylor-GreggCHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Fergus has over 25 years’ experience of finance

line management in service, high-tech and fast-

growing companies. Much of his experience has

been gained internationally and in challenging

environments.

Fergus works with the businesses on forecasting,

funding and budgeting, and heads up a team who

manage invoicing, credit control and pay & bill for

each of the portfolio companies.


Daisy BetteridgeHEAD OF OPERATIONS

Daisy oversees and manages all operational

activity within the Recruitment Entrepreneur

portfolio. She implements best practice

business guidelines and strategies and works

closely with partners and other department

heads to ensure everything runs smoothly

and efficiently, allowing you to focus on

running your business.

Angus McDowellINVESTMENT MANAGER

Angus works across the investment cycle,

conducting due diligence and project

managing live origination deals.

His involvement in the strategy and planning

for the existing portfolio businesses serves to

drive value creation. Angus has a wealth of

managerial and board level experience and

has recently completed an MBA at Cass

Business School.
