MVF offers swim instruction for all ages at various sites in the Village. Swim lessons are open to Village residents and pool members, as well as non-pool members at an additional fee.

Class Pass OptionSwim classes are available to non-pool mem-bers for an additional fee. The pass allows non-pool member class participants to use the pool one half-hour prior to class time to one half-hour after the class ends. The fee is $5 for non-designated user residents and $10 for non-residents per class. The Class Pass must be purchased at the time of class registration.

All students should use the following criteria in determining appropriate class:

Parent & Me Water Exploration: For ages 6 months to 3 years old or less than 36 inches tall. Parents and children explore the water together using activities that help little ones learn to enjoy water safely. Children not toilet trained must wear rubber pants over a swim diaper to be allowed in the pool. Regular disposable diapers are not permitted.

Tiny Tot Classes: For children 3 to 4 years old who are toilet trained and at least 36 inches tall. Tiny Tots must be able to separate from parent or caregiver and stay in the water with the class.

Polliwogs (Level 1): This water acclimation course is intended to give the fundamentals of moving in the water and safety around bodies of water. Starfish (Level 2): This class covers the fundamentals of stroking and breathing on the front and back, emergency response and underwater swimming.

Multi-Level Swim Lessons: For children 5 and older. Participants will be tested the first day of class and placed in one of the following skill levels that best suits their ability.

Tadpole Class (Level 1): This course is designed to reduce the fear of the water and to provide preliminary skills for assuming a swimming position and beginning movement.Guppy Class (Level 2): Designed for “just learning” swimmers, this class offers the fundamentals of stroking and breathing on the front and back, emergency response and underwater swimming.Minnow Class (Level 3): Designed for students who can voluntarily assume a swimming position, this course covers the fundamentals of stroking and breathing on the front and back, treading water, underwater swimming and more advanced safety skills.

Fish Class (Level 4): Oriented to the swimmer who can swim on both front and back at least one length of the pool, but needs work on breathing and coordination. This class also covers introduction to diving, turns and basic rescue skills.Shark Class (Level 5): Designed for the swimmer who is ready to expand knowledge of swimming strokes to include breaststroke and back crawl. Course also includes alternate entries to the water, more advanced rescue skills and related water skills. Student must be able to swim 50 yards on both front and back to enter the class.Whale Class (Level 6): This course is designed to help the student gain mastery of front and back crawl, side, breast and elementary back strokes as well as advanced water skills and water entries. As always, safety and rescue skills commensurate with swimming ability will be stressed.

2017 Summer Recreation Guide 27

How to RegisterRegistration for summer programs with the MVF Department of Recreation, Parks and Culture begins Friday, May 5 and con-tinues until the class maximum has been reached or until two working days before the start of class. If there is not sufficient registration at that time, the class will be cancelled. Register:• Online at www.montgomeryvillage.com• In person at the MVF Office, 10120 Apple Ridge Road, from

8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. • By mail to MVF, 10120 Apple Ridge Road, Montgomery

Village, MD 20886-1000. • After hours registration may be dropped off in the locked

drop box located in the parking lot of the MVF Office. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted.

• Phone and faxed registrations are accepted with payment by credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover)—Phone: 301-948-0110; Fax: 240-243-2302.

Important Facts about Registration• Program registration is complete once staff has verified an

opening in the session and when a receipt has been issued to the registrant.

• Full payment is due at the time of registration. However, for those who register for all sessions of any MVF camp at the same time, a deposit equal to the cost of half of those sessions will hold a space(s) at camp. All camp fees must be paid in full by Monday, June 12. If final payment is not received by the due date, your camper’s place may be of-fered to someone on the waiting list.

NOTE: There is a $35 charge for returned checks.• All camper-related forms are due Monday, June 12. State

code requires MVF to maintain these forms on location whenever camp is in session. Accordingly, children will not be admitted to any MVF camp until those documents are received and reviewed by MVF staff.

• MVF camps are offered in pre-determined one-week (Racing Wind and Soaring Stars) or two-week (Tiny Feet) sessions. Special registration requests will be considered (but not guaranteed) based on program requirements, including enrollment, special activities and trips.

Camp & Program Refund PolicyExcept in the case of sudden illness, cancellations/requests for refund must be received in writing and prior to the first day of the camp session or class in question, in order to be considered.Refunds will be made only under the following circumstances: 1. Cancellation of a program by the Montgomery Village Foun-

dation.2. Extended illness (doctor’s certificate required).3. Permanent relocation of participant out of Montgomery

Village.4. Failure to meet camp/class prerequisites.5. MVF changes made to the meeting time/location, which

prohibit participant’s attendance.Refund requests which are based on personal reasons, includ-ing vacationing, will only be granted if MVF is able to fill the requestor’s spot in his or her camp or class with another paying participant. Absolutely no refunds will be granted once half of the program session has been concluded—no exceptions. Except in the case that MVF cancels or changes the time/location of a program, a $25 non-refundable deposit included in the registration fee will be held by MVF in the event that a refund is granted.

Inter/Intra-Camp TransfersRequests from participants to transfer from one MVF camp to another MVF camp or to a different session of the same MVF camp will be accommodated if there are openings available. A $10 fee will be charged for this service. For further information, please call 301-948-0110, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
