It is coming up on two months since I was appointed Interim Director of Campus Recreation. One of my main goals is to have all of our campus recreation staff (full time & part time) able to serve our campus community with the best customer service and with great communication. We are here to serve you, so please let us know what we can do to make your experience at the Campus Recreation Center (CRCT) the most enjoyable experience for you and your family. This summer will be busy in the CRCT as we will be hosting a variety of camps, New Student Orientation, and other groups that have facility requests and needs. Typically, we try to leave at least one court available at all times for our members to use and we will continue to try to uphold that as much as we can, although there may be some times where that is not possible. This summer we will be experiencing more athletic camps in the CRCT because Bartow Arena is under renovation of the lower level seating area, so we are all working together to help one another and accommodate the needs of the various groups. It is important for all of us on campus to host these various groups as collectively we are all trying to recruit these young boys and girls to attend UAB one day! You can check out the schedule for the courts and pool on our website for updates. Some facility issues that you may not be aware of for this summer include renovation and additional lockers in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms as well as adding fans for better ventilation in the locker rooms and in the upstairs cardio fitness area. We will also be moving forward with our equipment replacement plan by trading out some of the current equipment along with purchasing additional new pieces that we tried out this past spring. Parking, Parking, Parking: This past spring there were changes to the parking deck across the street from the CRCT on 16th street and with the help of parking and transportation services, we all hope that this has assisted in the ease of being able to park during the day for our members that do not have access to parking on campus. Please check out the Campus Recreation website or contact us if you need further clarification on how we can assist you with your parking needs. Campus Recreation will be happy to pay for the validation if you are coming to the CRCT; however please help us keep our cost to a minimum by parking in the free lots after 4:00 pm and on the weekend. Faculty/staff that currently have parking access in other lots during the day will also have card access to floors 2-7 after 4:00 pm and on the weekend. You will need to enter the deck from the faculty/staff side which is located off of 9th Ave. Again, if there is anything we need to attend to or answer any concerns that you have, please feel free to contact any of our staff or fill out a comment card online or at the front desk. You are always welcome to contact me directly at [email protected], my direct line at 996-4909, or stop by my office. The Campus Recreation Center is a facility for all of the campus community, we are fortunate and will continue strive to manage it the best we can for you. Have a Great Day! We understand that parking at the Campus Recreation Center can be confusing and with all the recent changes, knowing where to park can become a challenge.

The ticketed parking area on the bottom floor of the 9th Ave deck was created to offer daytime parking to our non-student members who do not have parking options on campus during the day. each validated ticket is paid for by the Campus Rec-reation Center. In an effort to keep membership costs low and because there are other parking options available, we will no longer be validating tickets pulled after 4:00pm during the week or anytime on the weekends beginning monday, may 16.

Ample, convenient parking is available after 4pm and on weekends. All employees who park in facilities with access cards – other than 9th Avenue deck - will have night/weekend access added to their card. It will be valid at the 9th Ave entrance after 4 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Other lots that open up at no cost after 4:00 p.m. and before 6:30 a.m. and all weekend include Lot 5A (directly across University Blvd) and all lot 15 parking lots and decks.

We will continue to validate tickets for any non-student member during the hours of 5am – 4pm monday – Friday at no cost to the member.

And don’t forget: employees can get a lift with Campus Ride to the Rec Center for a workout during the day without the hardship of driving and parking. The drop-off point for the CRCT is located on 16th Street. Campus Ride picks up at a variety of locations throughout campus and is free to use. Campus Ride operates monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. For questions call Campus Ride at 205.975.8294 or Campus Recreation member Services at 205.996.5038.

For any questions or concerns, please call Jeff Corley, Interim Director of Campus Recreation, at 205-996-4909.
