ABSTRACT
Results .of a trawl survey ofgroundfish and crab resources occurring between Cape Spencer andUnimak Island, Alaska, are presented. The survey was conductedby the International Pacific HalibutCommission during 1961-63; catchrecords from 1,272 stations were recently analyzed and prepared by theNorthwest Fisheries Center. Information presented shows seasonalpatterns ofgeographic and depth distribution, in addition to relative

Hydrographic data were collectedfrom a natural marsh and a marshaltered by dredging, bulkheading,and filling in West Bay, Texas.Water samples were taken at 2-wkintervals during the day and night at10 stations from 25 March to 21 October 1969. This report contains thelocation, depth, date, and time thesamples were taken and corresponding measurements of water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, dissolved organic nitrogen, nitrite, totalphosphorus, inorganic phosphatephosphorus, pH, carbon dioxide,total alkalinity, carbonate alkalinity,and turbidity.

ABSTRACT
An improved method of commercial fishing for sablefish, commonlyknown as black cod (not related to
the family of codfishes), is now usedby commercial fishermen fromCalifornia to Alaska. Fish are captured and impounded in lightly constructed, baited traps. The traps arecollapsible (they fold down) but arerigid when set out to fish. They canbe completely covered with webbingor steel wire mesh. Fish impoundedin the traps, which are attached togroundlines, are alive and in excellent condition when brought aboardthe fishing vessels. The traditionalsetline method for fishing sablefishrequires considerably more bait,larger fishing crews, and many morehours of work per day to catch acomparable amount of sablefish.
Details of the trapping gear, setlines, and buoylines, plus the vesselequipment, fishing instructions, andlocations of traditional fishinggrounds are described.

ABSTRACT
Artificial reefs provide or improverough bottom habi tat and offerfishery scientists and administratorsan effective technique to conserveand develop coastal fishery resources. With careful planning and
organized efforts, local reef committees can build reefs to improvefishing and contribute to the recreational and financial growth of coastalcommunities. Advice and procedures are presented for: I) selectingconstruction materials, 2) determining a suitable reef site, 3) obtainingpermits, 4) buoying the reef, and 5)preparing, transporting, and placingreef-builing materials. Included inappendixes are instructions for preparing permits, addresses of Federaland State agencies involved in approving or funding reefconstruction,and addresses of manufacturers ofmaterials and equipment.

ABSTRACT
The cunner, Tautogo{abrusadsperslls, was exposed to six concentrations of cadmium, as cadmiumchloride (CdCb ·2\12 H20), for 96 h.At the end of this exposure period,tests of blood serum osmolality andgill tissue oxygen consumption wereperformed. High levels (48 ppm) ofthis metal resulted in abnormallyhigh serum osmolality, and an exposure as low as 3 ppm reduced thenormal rate of oxygen consumption.Both of these parameters may be related to observed tissue damage.
The histopathological effects ofacute exposure of the cunner tocadmium were manifested in thekidney, intestine, hemopoietic tissue, epidermis, and gill. Fewsignificant changes were noted in fishexposed to concentrations less than48 ppm. The results implicate renalfailure as the probable cause ofdeathsubsequent to acute exposure tocadmium.
Clearance of intracardially injected bacteria from the blood ofcunners exposed to 12 ppm cadmiumwas examined. The rate of bacterialuptake in the cells of the liver andspleen was increased, but the bacterial death rate within these cells wasdecreased. Exposure offish at 3 to 24ppm failed to influence antibodyproduction against sheet red bloodcells.
The activity of two liver enzymeschanged significantly with exposureto cadmium. Aspartate aminotransferase was lower in the exposed fish,and a magnesium-linked oxidoreduc-

tase in exposed fish required 10 timesas much added magnesium to reachthe same level of activity as in thecontrol fish.
Chemical analyses were made foruptake and clearance of cadmiumfrom exposed cunners. In the uptakestudy, cadmium residues averaged8.5 times higher in liver than in gills.In the clearance study, substantialreductions in cadmium residueswere found in the gills and blood offish held in clean seawater for 6 wkafter exposure to cadmium, as compared to fish sacrificed immediatelyafter exposure. Muscle and carcasssamples from the "cleared" fishshowed little reductions in cadmiumlevels.
