Dear Capitol City Church Family: Wow, what a wonderful start to a brand New Year. January and February have been wonderful months of ministry here at Capitol City. The Spirit of God is moving among us and it is evident as lives are being transformed. The words of the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 43:19 are ringing true for us. God says, “For I am about to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert!” Several individuals have made commitments to God and we’ve witnessed new birth by baptism since the start of the year.

Over the last couple of months I have been reminding us that we must allow God to have complete control in our lives. For it is when the Spirit of God dwells in us that genuine reformation and transformation will happen. Again, I want to encourage you to daily ask God for the fresh baptism of the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:13). Yesterday’s victories will not suffice for today’s battles. We need a fresh anointing from God each day.

Since the first Sabbath of this year I have been teaching and preaching about our theme for the year. By now I’m sure you have heard our church theme for 2013 is, “From Membership to Discipleship.” God has not called us just to be “members” in the church, but the biblical mandate is that we become “disciples.” Disciples are spiritual, committed, and faithful. Discipleship is an experience. It takes more than a mere one time belief. It is a life long commitment. It has to be practiced for a lifetime. It calls for following Jesus. It calls for spreading the gospel. It calls for responding to the needs of others. It calls for making other disciples. It calls for going. The Discipleship Model asks people to risk the safety and ease of what they’ve known in order to leave a legacy of offering freedom and healing and relief for people in need. We are disciples of Jesus Christ.

One of the highlights of the past two months happened on Sabbath February 16. We called this day, “Bring a Friend to Church Sabbath.” On that Sabbath we saw over 400 individuals attend our morning worship services. The Spirit of God was present and many

responded to the appeal to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Many more commented about their positive experience at Capitol City and countless seeds were sowed! To God be the glory! Let me also say, “Thank you” Capitol City for sharing your faith.

Remember, church growth studies anywhere between 80 – 96% of “unchurched” persons said they would attend church if invited. (churchcentral.com) God has called us to be His witnesses. (Isaiah 43:10-12). Jesus said we are the “salt and light of the world.” (Matthew 5) When Andrew found Jesus he brought his brother Peter to Jesus. We whom have received light from the Lord should share the light with a dying world. Let’s model the disciples in the Bible by inviting others into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Remember the words of Jesus, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10. Let’s throw out the life-line.

As we continue this year here’s what I need for us to do:

Make Jesus your top priority!

• Pray for the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

• Come to Church!

• Join at least one (1) Ministry

• Give financially to help advance God’s Kingdom

• Support Church events!

• Invite someone to church each week!

Shaun Boostra | Coming to Capitol City on Mar 9th by Pastor William Lee

Pastor Shawn Boonstra, the former Speaker/Director for the World-Wide Television Ministry of "It Is Written", will be our Divine Hour Speaker on Mar 9th. Pastor Boonstra will also be holding an Evangelism training at the Glendale Seventh-day Adventist Church on Mar 9th, 3p Boonstra made the decision to commit his life to gospel ministry after attending an It Is Written series in the city of Victoria 17 years ago. Between 2004 and 2010, he appeared weekly on the main It Is Written television program (and podcast). In the last few years, Boonstra has held major

series in Portland, Los Angeles, and even the heart of Rome! He has written more than 15 books. His clear grasp of Scripture and his warm, dynamic presentation style have been an inspiration to many. He, his wife Jean, and their two daughters live in Southern California.

On Sunday Feb 10th, the

Capitol City Seventh-day

Adventist School held a Talent

and Fashion Show fundraiser.

The goal is to involve the

constituency in raising funds for

the general expenses of the

school.

The churches and

community members came

together in support of the school’s

endeavors. We had an

unprecedented attendance where

every chair in the building was

used and it was standing room

only. Young people displayed

their talents in music (singing,

strengths of its diversity and

reaches out to help the school

meet the needs of the school.

Alcohol use was responsible for about 3.5% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. in 2009, according to a study in the American Journal of Public Health. Researchers combined results of population surveys about alcohol use with the relative risks for cancer mortality observed in meta-analyses. In men, the majority of the alcohol-related cancer deaths were due to cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, and esophagus. In women, the majority were due to breast cancer. Each cancer death resulted in roughly 18 years of potential life lost. Roughly 30% of the alcohol-attributable cancer deaths occurred in people who drank about 1.5 or fewer drinks per day. As to the mechanism for these effects, the authors offer: "genotoxic effects of acetaldehyde, production of reactive oxygen or nitrogen species, changes in folate metabolism, increased estrogen concentration, or serving as a solvent for tobacco metabolites." The authors call for clear statements of the danger from healthcare organizations, emphasizing that "there is no safe level at which there is no cancer risk." Alcohol and breast cancer Alcohol may also raise a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer. Each additional 10 grams of alcohol (the amount in about one 4-oz glass of wine) per day raises the relative risk of developing breast cancer over a lifetime by about 10% . Here’s Some Perspective: A woman’s overall lifetime risk of breast cancer is almost 9 in 100 if she drinks no alcohol. Two drinks per day increases the risk to just over 10 in 100, while six drinks a day ups her risk to about 13 in 100. When you’re considering giving offering to the church, you may be feeling as many of us have at one time or another, that you have too much going on to return 10% of your earnings let alone an additional offering. You may say “God, I just don’t I can return what you have asked me and still be able to make it.” “God, I do return my tithe faithfully, but I can’t foresee giving a liberal offering on top of that.” “Lord, I just don’t agree with what the church board does with the mon-ey that is given.” “Lord, now you know everything. So you know that with all my bills and obliga-tions that there’s not enough left to return to you.” It’s not enough to pray about these feelings, but we must these 5 declarations: Lord I declare that I will..

that simply need to move out of our way. God says that you can speak to the mountain and tell it to move. Tell your mountain, whether it be debt, doubt, addiction, affliction, or what-ever it is that is keeping you from serving God and being faithful in your tithes and offering. Tell it:

“You will not defeat me, you will come at me with natural weapons, but I come at you in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. So I declare that you be removed. I am blessed and I can not be cursed.”

1. ...no longer believe that I can’t make it if I follow your commands because you said you shall supply all of my needs.

2. ...not only return a faithful tithe, but I will prove you Lord by giving a liberal offering.

3. ...no longer concern myself with what others are doing, but that I am being faithful un-to you in tithes & offering. I will trust that you have a hand in what our church leaders are doing and that it is to your name’s honor and glory.

4. ..return to you first what you have asked of me and know that you will take care of the rest.

5. ...not complain about the needs of the church if I am not doing my part.

Couple’s Night Out

for the evening were our "Married Mentors” The Cartwrights, James and Charlesetta; who have been married for 62 years. Mention was also made of the newest married couple in attendance Sheryl and Jay McCully who have been married for a little over one year.

Family Life Ministry would like to thank all the couples that came out and attended the date night 'Couples Night Out'. We took care of 18 children at the church. Special thanks to our chaperones Melissa Williams, Naudina Punch, Sybil and Dove Satterfield, and Sandy Holland who kept our kids safe at the church while we were out.

How You Can Help! Family life is not only for married couples, but men, women, singles, seniors, children and youth. When we work together and

support each other we can be more effective.

You can also submit any articles or media content for review that can be considered beneficial to any of the demographic groups of Family.

Frank Sinatra once sang “Love and Marriage, Go together like a horse and carriage...” On February 16th, the horse and carriage were replaced with pasta and marinara sauce as seventeen married couples gathered at Bravo’s for Couple’s Night Out. The evening was an opportunity to establish a forum and outlet for married couples to interact, socialize and grow together as we seek to enhance our marriages and families. We recognized that life can get in the way sometime, and this was just to create the space to spend some quality time with like-minded people.

celebrating our love and commitment with other couples during the couples night out. With a busy lifestyle, you have to make a concerted effort to carve out quality time together as a couple. If breakfast is the most important meal of the day when it comes to physical food, then Sabbath School serves a similar purpose for the soul every Sabbath morning. On Jan 19th, teens, parents and teachers took time to enjoy a savory breakfast before feasting on their Sabbath lesson. The breakfast was intended allow current students to fellowship and to bring out more youth. Attendance increased by 80% included 1 visitor. In addition to monthly breakfasts, the teachers of the Earliteen class plan to have socials to foster fellowship, install a big screen tv as a teaching resource, redo the furniture to create a more hospitable atmosphere. Seventh-day Adventist churches throughout Indiana are leading out in a widespread health outreach initiative! On April 27-28, we will be joining the Channel 13 Health Fair at the Indiana State Fairgrounds with the Lifestyle EXPO. This event will be open to the public and will demonstrate the NEW START program (Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sleep, Trust, Air, Rest, Trust).

There will be training on Sabbath (March 2nd and April 20th) from 2p–4:30p at the Glendale Seventh-day Adventist church, located at 2900 E. 62nd Street. This training is required to participate. How to iWitness by Pastor William Lee

One of the great privileges we have as God’s children is the authority and privilege to invite others to be reconciled with God! There is no greater decision people can make than trusting Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord. Sharing our faith, or Witnessing, is one of the most important factors in growing as a Christian. It keeps our faith fresh and exciting as we watch oth-ers being transformed by a miracle from God! But we need to remember the following to be effective Witnesses for Christ:

1. Be Available: Yield your life to God. God uses Available Servants.

2. Be Prayerful: Ask God to lead you to people to share with. Pray that God will make them open to His Word!

3. Be Filled with the Spirit: Only God can bring others to Himself. Our part is simply to be filled with His Holy Spirit and allow Him to share His love with others through us!

Sharing Our Faith With Prayer Although many people are hesitant to talk about God, most people are happy to have you pray for them, this opens up a great opportunity to share Christ with others. Offer to pray for the needs of friends, co-workers, acquaintances, neighbors, etc. Pray that God draws them to Himself and look for opportunities to share Christ with them as God pro-vides.

1. Your Life Before Christ: Share specifically about an area of your life in which Christ changed you. Resist the temptation to dwell on how bad you were.

2. How You Came to Know Christ: Explain clearly how you heard about Christ, and how you made the decision to trust in Him for forgiveness.
