Eliminate HIV/AIDSReanon Sandlin
Combating HIV/AIDS
There were 34 million people living with HIV/AIDS
in 2010. 2.7 of these people were newly infected
that year. This unfortunate virus and disease is
completely curable even without a medicine that
can cure it.

Steps to achieve our goal
• Education can help prevent new infections by providing people with information about HIV and how it is passed on, and in doing so equip individuals with the knowledge to protect themselves from becoming infected with the virus.
Education
• CDC recommends that all Americans between the ages of 13-64 be tested for HIV at least once as part of regular medical care.
Testing
• HIV counseling and testing are fundamental for HIV prevention. People living with HIV are less likely to transmit the virus to others if they know they are infected and if they have received counseling about safer behavior.
Prevention
Support the Solution
An effective response requires strategic planning based on good
quality science and surveillance, as well as consideration of local
society and culture. All sectors of the population should be actively
involved in the response, including employers, religious groups, non-
governmental organizations and HIV-positive people. Many of the
world's most successful HIV prevention efforts have been led by the
affected communities themselves.
