get real.

At LeTourneau University, weird things happen sometimes. When a number of the dorm mattresses were replaced this past summer, it provided the perfect opportunity for students to turn the trashed ones into toboggans while competing in what is now referred to as “extreme berm sliding.” This is just one of many examples of what happens on campus here every day.

Think of this magazine as our family photo album. We are totally a family. (Seriously, after coming here, you might not want to go home for the summer. Home probably doesn’t have extreme berm sliding!) Whether you live down the hall, across town, or in the next room, you’re a part of the family.

So flip through our album—see the crazy stuff that happens in our residence halls—the stuff that becomes legend. The photos in this magazine are mostly shot by students. Remember, the album isn’t finished, yet. There’s plenty of room for you. Are you ready to become the next extreme berm sliding champion?

floorunityliving = bonding.

“Floor unity is HUGE! At LeTourneau your floor is not just a residence, but your family. There is no one I would rather hang out with than the guys on my floor. My favorite part of college is living on my floor.”

-Michael Skeen, Senior Marketing Major from Pearland, TX

“Right when we pulled up in the parking lot, older students could tell I was a freshman because I had all my stuff stacked on the grass outside. Two of them came up and introduced themselves, gave me a tour of the floor and talked with my mom. They really made me feel welcome, so it was great! You get immediately accepted into the community. The floor comes and helps you out, it’s a good time. ”

“Going to competition is really cool. You go and see all the different teams from all over the world - see their cars, see what they did that might be better and get ideas. It’s really fun. The design process can be kinda long, but when you get to put it together and see it drive - that’s pretty awesome.” -Ryan Reynolds, Engineering Technology Major from Las Cruces, NM

“Our team has a lot of fun, especially when winning 6-2 against our archrivals in front of over 600 screaming fans. For me, scoring four goals in that game is something I’ll never forget.”

The LeTourneau engineering tradition of catapulting a pumpkin across campus started decades ago and continues today as groups of students band together and build incredible inventions for this competition.

“My inspiration for building a slingshot was based off of seeing the guys on ‘Mythbusters’ after they built one for launching a person - instead of a pumpkin.” - Matt Bradberry, Senior Engineering Major from Killeen, TX

“The IMPACT leadership team at LeTourneau arrivesback to campus in the fall before the rest of the students to spend some time bonding and to prepare to serve the needs of the student body. fallfestyou’ve gotta see it to believe it.

“Fall Fest is the week leading up to Homecomingwhen all the floors do hilarious things to express their spirit in creative ways. At the end of the week, the queen and king get voted on by the student body based on what each floor has done to promote their king or queen. It’s basically just a really fun time for people to be crazy and wild.” -Doug Glidden, Computer Engineering Major from Portland, ME
