1827 Emperor of Russia Nicholas I issued a special decree granting Purcari

the status of the first specialized winery in Bessarabia. In 1847, at the

Agricultural Bessarabian Fair, Purcari received its first gold medal.

1878 Purcari got its first gold medal at Exposition Universelle (Paris). During

a closed wine tasting, French experts were impressed with a dry wine of an

intense ruby color, being sure that it was a new Bordeaux wine. What a

surprise when they found it had originated in a small village on the banks of

the Dniester River.

1950 A new era in the history of Purcari starts in 1950, when the Moldovan

winemakers restored the classic production techniques of the famous wines.

One of the greatest professionals of that time – Pimen Cupcea,

reconstructed the legendary Negru de Purcari, while Ion Ungureanu created

a new masterpiece – Purpuriu de Purcari.

2003 With the planting of 250 hectares of vineyards and installation of the

most modern European technologies, started the modern period in the

history of Château Purcari. Nowadays, the wines are exported to over 25

countries worldwide: Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, China, Poland,

Germany, Baltics and other countries, becoming the business card of

Moldova.

2014 Purcari crossed the borders of quality, returning on the UK market

through the distributor of British Royal House, BBR. Also, Purcari succeeded

to penetrate the monopolistic wine market in Norway, thus becoming the

only Moldovan wine sold in this country. Moreover, Purcari launched a world

premiere - a wine of freedom - Freedom Blend, in limited edition.

2015 Purcari Winery received the patent as the Official Supplier of the Royal

House of Romania. This year, the winery brings together local and

international spirits, and presents a new limited-edition product project -

Vinohora în Alb and Vinohora în Rosu (wines that awaken the most beautiful

passions).

2016 Purcari launches a wine that combines a blend of two indigenous

varieties from Moldova and Romania: «Maluri the Prut». To continue the

series of new launches centered on indigenous varieties of the region,

Purcari completed Vinohora collection with a Moldovan-Italian dance:

Vinohora Rosé.

2018 Purcari Wineries cheers its successful IPO at Bucharest Stock

Exchange, a first IPO for a Moldova-based company.

Purcari history begins in the eighteenth century, when French settlers leased lands which then belonged to the Afon Zograf Monastery.

Owners began producing red wines, which soon became famous as exceptional wines with intense and complex bouquet.

Located on the west coast of the Dniester River, at an altitude of 110-185 meters above the Black Sea, the Purcari

vineyards which cover an area of over 300 hectares, have a special microclimate that protects the vineyards from

frost in winter and heat during summer.

The Purcari microzone has a unique terroir ideal for producing high quality wines. The climate is characterized by

active temperatures up to 3300 °C and a relative humidity coefficient of 0.68-0.75.

The microzone is known due to the soil composition - clay chernozem - sandy charred. The slope orientation

determines the soil characteristics, which play an important role in forming the wine flavors and taste.

The ensurement of the vineyards with light and heat also depends on the degree of the slope. The location of the

hills allows maximum exposure to the sun’s rays, helping vines to grow and grapes to ripen. The slope also

facilitates water drainage.

Thereby, vine roots penetrate deep through the layers of carbon soil in search of water, and the planting in ordered

rows allows good air circulation.

The climate, the soil and the geographical position form the perfect ensemble contributing on the quality of the

obtained grapes. The terroir has a high importance in the role of providing a unique attribute to each vineyard.
