WaterstofNet Non profit organisation, started in 2009

Area: Belgium / Netherlands

Working close together with industry/government

Activities

Owner of 2 HRS , based upon green electricity

Facilitating projects with buses, garbage trucks, fork lifts, vessels, cars

Making roadmaps: H2-Mobility Belgium, roadmap Power to Gas

Representing Belgium within IEA HIA

Don Quichote Development of a New Qualititive and Innovative

concept for hydrogen out of turbine electricity

In other words:

Power to gas with different components and applications

Funded by the European JU-FCH (GA 303 411)

Don Quichote Starting points:

800 kW solar, 1,5 MW wind

Interested enduser in the retail sector

Hydrogen combined with logistic applications and smart grid

Don Quichote Phase 1:

Alkaline electrolyser, 30 Nm³/h, membrame compressor, storage 50 kg (450 bar), dispenser, fuelling forklifts

Phase 2: PEM electrolyser, 30 Nm³/h, PEM fuel cell 100 kW,

storage 50 kg (450 bar), forklifts and feed back electricity to the grid

Phase 3: Electrochemical compressor, electrochemical expander

Fluctuating demand

Page 12: Real life demonstration plant for benchmarking hydrogen technologies Adwin Martens WaterstofNet Sydney, 13 October 2015

Phase 1: Results Starting with 2 forklifts means limited hydrogen

demand (underutilisation):

efficiencies reduced

how to define/judge availibility

Now 12 forklifts:

efficiencies higher

availibility fuelling station > 95%

Next step:

almost full loaded HRS by additional forklifts

Conclusions Best learning is learning by doing

Dedicated/complementary partners are crucial

Efficiencies and availibility are relevant if nominal use

Every phase has its own dynamics, permits, issues
