You are holding the first issue of Nordmann News in your hands – the magazine for our business partners in a new format. You can look forward to a broad range of information, a new look and the newly introduced bilingualism to emphasize our inter-national focus. The contents of Nordmann News are structured by industry for easier orientation and in line with the compa-ny’s organization.

The relaunch of the former tradetrends is part of Nordmann’s repositioning, with which we are now entering the market. You will find about this topic in this issue.

There are also news in the management of Nordmann. At the beginning of this year, Irina Zschaler withdrew from the ope-rative business and is now exclusively active as CEO of Georg Nordmann Holding AG. Dr Gerd Bergmann, Carsten Güntner and Felix Kruse are responsible for the new Nordmann man-agement.

When the NRC brand was created, the focus was on the dis-tribution of chemical and natural raw materials and specialty chemicals in Germany and later also in Eastern Europe. Since then, the portfolio and the international presence have devel-oped steadily and Nordmann has become an international-ly oprating group of companies. A further development of our brand strategy is, therefore, the logical consequence.

What remains and what changesOur employees and our corporate values continue to form the basis of our business: human and value-oriented, with pas-sion and knowledge, future-oriented and innovative. The way we act and the passion with which we approach tasks and find suitable solutions – individual, reliable and committed – also remain unchanged. What will change is the appearance of the company. From now on, we will operate worldwide under a joint brand. Together with the slogan “Knowledge in action”, we have developed a new, uniform brand name, a new logo and a new, globally applicable corporate design.

New brand, new appearanceIn the future, all companies in the group will present themselves under a single brand: NORDMANN. The 26 companies will re-tain their independence and organizational structure. With the Nordmann brand, we are pursuing a one-brand strategy that ensures a uniform appearance and increased brand awareness without giving up our flexibility and local responsibility.

The consistently used brand increases recognition and distinc-tion and encourages the cooperation of all employees at all locations. The new, uniform corporate design is a further step to emphasize the affiliation of all companies to the group and the resulting advantages for the business partners. The dairy market is today the fast-growing segment in the dairy industry – it is expec-ted to rise to 9 billion euros by 2022. Thus, the growth rate of 7.3% remains above the growth of the entire dairy product market (2.3%). Within the market for lactose-free products lactose-free milk is by far the dominating sec-tor: It accounts for two-thirds of the market and boosts the growth of the dairy industry. The second largest sector is lactose-free yo-gurt, which will reach 1 billion euros by 2020. The indication of lactose liberty on a label is no longer a niche today. The best from olives

Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, as is the INCI term, contains a high proportion of sterols and 70% squalene. Squalene is an important component of human sebum that protects the skin and regulates moisture. The mild and low-irritant ingredient is especially well-suited to products for sensitive, dry and brittle skin and can also be used without hesitation to formulate skin care items for small children. Used in products such as creams and lotions, Sophim’s Insapolive preserves the skin’s suppleness and protects it from moisture loss. As a component of shampoo, it improves the comba-bility of hair.

Among natural body care products, the unsaponifi able constituents of olives are particularly valuable. The French Nordmann partner Sophim, a company which specializes in the production of natural products for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, pro-cesses these olive-based raw mate-rials under the name Insapolive.

You have developed a new serum. What makes it unique?Our new serum is a formulation that uses natu ral ingredients. It is clear, does not stick and features optimized flow behavior due to a special type of xanthan gum.

Where is the new serum used?Our serum has a light texture, but is enriched with many active ingredients. It is not a sub-stitute, but rather a supplement, to the daily day and night cream. Usually a serum is ap-plied to clean skin to provide additional care.

And how does the new product work?Our serum contains various active ingredi-ents such as hyaluronic acid, a proven mois-turizer that protects the skin from drying out. Hamamelis extract is another ingredient that the serum features. This has an anti-inflam-matory effect that relieves itching and pro-tects the skin. Bioyouth™ NATTO, a fermented soybean extract, also provides protection but increases the skin’s elasticity as well.

Skin Care: A natural, fresh kick for your skin

MEADOWESTOLIDE®, from Nordmann partner Elementis, is a lipid that counteracts loss of moisture in the skin. New studies have recently proven the effectiveness of the product.

Meadowfoam Estolide, the INCI name of Elementis’ new product, is a derivative of the very stable meadowfoam oil (Fancor® Meadowfoam Seed Oil). This high-quality lipid has a ceramide-like structure with great water-binding capacity that works to protect the epidermis from suffering moisture loss. New studies have now confirmed the positive impact this oil derivative has on skin hydration. MEADOWESTOLIDE® is a component of various high-quality skin care products and is particularly suitable for targeting demanding skin areas such as the lips, hands and feet.

Stressed-out skin needs a lot of protection and care in order to better withstand the strain of external influences. This is where Bloomage Freda comes in with its new active ingredient, Bio-ectoTM (INCI: Ectoin). This multifunctional amino acid derivative is produced using biotechnological fermentation methods and has recently been added to Nordmann’s portfolio.

Used in the formulation of skin care products, BioectoTM im-proves the resistance power of skin cells, supports collagen production and also provides long-lasting moisturizing effects. The result is beautiful and well-groomed skin.

BioectoTM is an extremolyte, making it very heat resistant and compatible with a wide range of pH values. The raw ma-terial also protects skin-cell DNA from suffering light-induced damage and can even repair UV-damaged cells. Zum Schutz vor Korrosion in Chloranlagen wur-den 1965 DERAKANE™-Epoxyvinylester harze eingeführt, die sich rasch zum Industriestan-dard für korrosionsbeständige, glasfaserver-stärkte Kunststoffapparate (GFK) entwickel-ten. Bei der Herstellung von DERAKANE™ Signia™ hat Ashland neue Technologien genutzt, die die Handhabung sowie Umwelt- und Arbeitsplatzbedingungen verbessern.

DERAKANE™-Signia™-411- Bisphenol-A-Epoxy vinylesterharz wurde sowohl in Labor-studien als auch in praktischen Versuchen ge-testet. Dabei konnte gezeigt werden, wie die neue Technologie eine sauberere und effizien-tere Arbeits umgebung schafft und gleichzeitig die regionalen Anforderungen an die Styrol-emission erfüllt.

Reduzierung der Styrolemission Aufgrund der Einführung zahlreicher Vorschrif-ten zur Exposition von Menschen gegenüber Styrol hat die Emissionsreduktion für die Verbundwerkstoffindustrie in den vergangenen Jah ren an Bedeutung gewonnen. DERAKANE™-Signia™-Harze enthalten eine einzig artige Tech nologie, welche die Styrol emission bei der Verarbeitung durch die Bildung einer Barriere gegen das Verdampfen von Styrol stark redu-ziert (Abbildung 1). Da bei dieser Technologie Luft über die Laminatoberfläche strömen muss, um die Filmbildung zu fördern, bestimmt das Herstellungsverfahren die Wirksamkeit der Emissionsreduktion. Die Filmbildung beginnt:

• beim Handlaminieren, sobald Laminieren und Ausrollen beendet sind (Übergang von dyna-mischer zu statischer Emission, Abbildung 2),

• beim Faserspritzen (Fächerstrahldüse), sobald das Sprühen von Harz aufhört,

• beim Faserwickeln auf einem rotierenden Dorn durch einen automatisch guten Luft-strom an der Laminatoberfläche, sobald diese nicht mehr bearbeitet wird.

Wird die Harzoberfläche während der Verarbei-tung beschädigt, tritt eine Styrolemission auf. Der Film bildet sich jedoch rasch wieder neu, sodass die Verbesserung von Umwelt- und Arbeitsplatzbedingungen messbar bleibt.

Introduced in 1965 to combat corrosion in chlo-rine plants, Derakane™ epoxy vinyl ester resins have become the industry standard for corro-sion-resistant fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) equipment. With the introduction of Derakane™ Signia™, Ashland has leveraged new technolo-gy to improve workability as well as environ-mental performance and workplace conditions.

Derakane™ Signia™ 411 bisphenol-A epoxy vinyl ester resin has been evaluated in both laboratory studies and practical trials to demonstrate how this valuable new technol-ogy provides a cleaner, more efficient shop environment while meeting regional styrene emission requirements.

Reducing styrene emissions The reduction of styrene emission has gained importance to the composites industry over the past several years with the introduction of many regulations regarding human exposure to styrene. Derakane™ Signia™ resins feature a unique vapor suppression technology that greatly reduces styrene emissions upon curing by promoting the formation of a vapor sup-pressant film (Figure 1. As the technology re-quires air to pass over the laminate surface to promote the formation of the vapor suppres-sant film, the FRP fabrication method used will affect efficacy. The suppression film be-gins to form:

• in hand lay-up as soon as consolidation and rollout have stopped (shift from dynamic to static emissions, Figure 2)

• in spray-up applications (using fan jet noz-zles), once resin spray-up stops

• in filament winding, through the good air flow over the laminate surface promoted by therotating mandrel

Styrene emission occurs when the resin sur-face is disturbed in processing, but the sup-pression film quickly reforms and allows for the measurable improvement of environmen-tal and workplace conditions.

Gelcoat surfaces are very resistant to environmentalinfl uences

How to care for gelcoats optimally depends on their age; for new surfaces, for example, protection is the name of the game. For older surfaces, the focus is more on restoration.

New surfacesNew gelcoats should be coated with a protective layer of car-nauba wax before being exposed to the elements. Using con-ventional waxes such as those common in the automotive sec-tor or high-quality release agents such as Honey Wax are also suitable. Semi-permanent release agents such as KantStik® Cure Fast 1.0 provide protection against weathering as well. These form a thin and very smooth layer of lacquer that reduc-es soiling and facilitates later cleaning.

Soiled surfaces Depending on the location and length of use, soiled gelcoat surfaces must be cleaned with the appropriate degree of inten-sity. This should always be done with plenty of water and with-out the use of hard sponges or high-pressure cleaners. In order to optimize the cleaning process, conventional detergents or products designed for washing car bodies are recommended, as these are also suitable for gel coats. The basic rules are: clean from top to bottom, dry and reseal the surface after cleaning.

Weathered surfacesA little more effort is needed here! Following thorough cleaning, the surface in question should be dried and then polished. If the surface has only dulled slightly, polishing pastes such as Buffa-way from Stoner are usually sufficient. If the gelcoat is heavily weathered, however, the only course of action is to sand down the damaged layers by using a coarse grain (120 or 240) and then increasingly finer grains. Finally, the surface should be polished and sealed using wax.

If a gelcoat is too badly damaged, only a fresh coat of paint can help. Consulting a specialist company is advisable in this case.

Care instructions for gelcoats

Gelcoat surfaces are typically very resistant to environmental infl uences such as moisture, UV radiation or frost.

Nevertheless, it is advisable to look after them regularly so that they maintain their shine and color for longer.

DE > Pflegehinweise für Gelcoats. Gelcoat-Oberflächen sind in der Regel sehr beständig gegenüber Umwelteinflüssen wie Nässe, UV-Strahlung oder Frost. Dennoch ist es ratsam, sie regelmäßig zu pflegen – so bleiben Glanz und Farbe lange erhalten.

Die optimale Pflege von Gelcoats hängt von ihrer Beschaffen-heit ab. So steht bei neuen Oberflächen der Schutz, bei älteren eher die Restaurierung im Vordergrund.

Neue OberflächenNeue Gelcoats sollten vor dem ersten Einsatz mit einem Carnauba-Wachs geschützt werden. Geeignet sind herkömmli-che Wachse aus dem Kfz-Bereich oder hochwertige Trennmittel wie zum Beispiel Honeywax. Auch semipermanente Trennmittel wie etwa KantStik® Cure Fast 1.0 schützen gegen Witterungs-einflüsse. Sie bilden eine dünne, sehr glatte Lackschicht und reduzieren somit Verschmutzungen und erleichtern die nächste Reinigung.

Verschmutze OberflächenJe nach Einsatzort und -dauer müssen die Oberflächen unter-schiedlich intensiv gereinigt werden. Dies sollte grundsätzlich mit viel Wasser und ohne den Einsatz von harten Schwämmenoder Hochdruckreinigern mit Dreckfräse erfolgen. Um die Rei-nigungsleistung zu optimieren, empfehlen sich herkömmlicheSpülmittel oder aber Produkte, die auch für die Autolackrei-nigung eingesetzt werden – sie sind für Gelcoats ebenfallsgeeignet. Grundsätzlich gilt: immer von oben nach unten arbei-ten, die Oberfläche nach der Reinigung trocknen und anschlie-ßend neu versiegeln.

Verwitterte OberflächenHier ist etwas mehr Aufwand gefragt: Nach einer gründlichen Reinigung sollte die Oberfläche zunächst getrocknet und an-schließend poliert werden. Ist die Oberfläche nur etwas stumpf, reichen in der Regel Polierpasten aus, beispielsweise BuffAway™ von Stoner. Ist das Gelcoat jedoch stark verwittert, hilft nur noch das Abschleifen der beschädigten Schichten: zunächst eine grobe Körnung (120 oder 240), gefolgt von immer feinerer. Abschließend wird poliert und versiegelt (Wachs).

Ist ein Gelcoat zu stark geschädigt, hilft nur noch eine Lackie-rung. Hierfür ist die Expertise eines Spezialbetriebs ratsam.

Organizer Stephan Hinterwaldner and his team once again put together an engaging and up-to-date program for the symposium visi-tors that included plenty of room for networ-king. Under this year’s theme of pressure-sensitive adhesives, the latest developments and trends in raw materials, pressure-sensitiveadhesive and hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesive systems, processing technologies and processing plants were presented in 31 different lectures. As expected, these talks also generated a good amount of discussion and debate. The program was rounded off by a small tabletop exhibit in the foyer of the con-ference room that was very popular with visi-tors. As Stephan Hinterwaldner emphasized in his opening speech, “The high number of sym-posium participants and outstanding techni-cal quality of the presentations emphasize the enormous importance of pressure-sensitive adhesives in general, and of adhesive tapes and labels as the leading applications in the field of pressure-sensitive adhesives.”

The next Munich Adhesives and Finishing Symposium (MKVS) will be taking place from 28-30 October 2019 and focusing on hot melt adhesives and hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives. A call for papers is already under way (www.mkvs.de).

Nordmann at leading adhesives & sealants eventAround 250 visitors from 14 di� erent countries took part in the Munich Adhesives and Finishing Symposium (MKVS) this past October. In particular, the event was aimed at product and machine manufacturers as well as formulators and operators in the adhesives, printing and converting industries. For the fi fth consecutive year, Nordmann was there to run a mobile exhibition stand at this leading event of the adhesives and sealants industry.

Save the date

The program also included the premiere pre-sentation of the new DVS 3320-2 guideline con-cerning quality requirements in pressure-sensi-tive adhesive tapes application for permanent adhesive connections. This was given by Ms Stammen from the University of Braunschweig, representing the DVS Expert Committee under the chairmanship of Dr Seitz (tesa SE). In addi-tion, Professor Martin-Martinez from the Uni-versity of Alicante gave a talk on his exciting work entitled “Controlled tack and adhesion by changing the degree of phase separation in thermoplastic polyurethane pressure-sensitive adhesives using polyether-polyol mixtures”, and Professor Koch from the Westphalian Uni-versity of Applied Sciences focused his lecture on the extensive research work carried out on hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesives based on polylactic acid.

“Once again, the last MKVS provided an idealplatform for us to reach customers and sup-pliers in the adhesives segment. We were able to present innovations from long-standing Nordmann suppliers such as KratonTM Polymers to many of the formulators on site, and to dis-cuss with them the new products in our port-folio such as MMA monomers from EVONIK or the latest generation of Elementis thixatroles for rheology in the sealants segment,” said Dirk Köpke, Technical Sales & Product Manager for Adhesives & Sealants at Nordmann, Rassmann GmbH.

DE > Nordmann bei Leit-Event der Kleb- und Dichtstoffbranche vertreten. Rund 250 Besu-cher aus 14 Ländern nahmen vom 22. bis zum 24. Oktober 2018 am Münchener Klebstoff- und Veredelungs-Symposium (MKVS) teil. Die Veranstaltung richtete sich insbesondere an Produkt- und Maschinenhersteller sowie an Formulierer und Anwender der Klebstoff-, Druck- und Converting-Industrien. Nordmann war bei diesem Leit-Event der Kleb- und Dichtstoffbranche zum fünften Mal mit einem mobilen Messestand vertreten.

Veranstalter Stephan Hinterwaldner und sein Team boten wie gewohnt ein interessantes und hochaktuelles Programm mit viel Raum für Networking. Unter dem diesjährigen Fokus- thema „Haftklebstoffe“ präsentierten sich neueste Entwicklungen und Trends in Rohstof-fen, Haftklebstoff- sowie Haftschmelzkleb-stoffsystemen, Verfahrenstechniken und Verarbeitungsanlagen in 31 topaktuellen und – wie erwartet – teils recht kontrovers

diskutierten Vorträgen. Abgerundet wurde das Programm durch eine kleine, gut frequentierte Table-Top-Ausstellung im Foyer des Konfe-renzraums. Im Programm kam es zu der Premierenvor-stellung der neuen Richtlinie DVS 3320-2 zu „Qualitätsanforderung in der Haftklebeband-Anwendung für permanente klebtechnische Verbindungen“ durch Frau Stammen von der Universität Braunschweig, stellvertretend für das zuständige DVS Expert Committee unter der Leitung von Dr. Seitz, tesa. Des Wei teren gab Professor Martin-Martinez von der Uni-versität Alicante Einblick in seine spannenden Arbeiten rund um „Kontrollierte Klebrigkeit und Haftung durch das Verändern des Phasentrennungsgrades in thermoplastischen Polyurethan-Haftklebstoffen durch Polyether- Polyol-Gemische“, und Professor Koch von der Westfälischen Hochschule richtete in seinem Vortrag den Blick auf die durchgeführten umfangreichen Forschungsarbeiten zu „Haft-schmelzklebstoffe auf Basis Polymilchsäure“.

On September 22, 2018, Wacker Chemie AG presented its “Distributor of the Year” award. Nordmann was given the platinum award for the third time in a row, in honor of the com-pany’s special achievements as a distributor. Based in Hamburg, Nordmann supplies raw materials from Wacker AG to a wide range of industries that includes coatings, printing inks, composites, pharmaceuticals and cos-metics. On behalf of the entire Nordmann team, colleagues from both the Coatings & Construction and Life Sciences divisions were there to accept the award.

Nordmann organized a seminar on cost-ef-fective technologies for modern asphalt pave-ments that took place in Serbia on November 30, 2018.

The event was a good opportunity for dis-cussing recycling, circular economy issues and highly-modified bitumen for long-lasting road asset management. The successful and fruit-ful seminar brought together road owners, entrepreneurs and scientists to jointly make progress in the development of cost-effective future technologies.

The key parameters for a future, effec-tive recycling concept are the availability of recycled asphalt (RA), a functioning indus-trial recycling process and standard techni-cal specifications. It was determined that all stakeholders have a role to play in making sus-tainable solutions happen. For example, road owners have asphalt that can be recycled and reused. Contractors should also invest in the future and scientists should design specifica-tions that offer the best value for money.

Die Schlüsselparameter für ein zukünftiges effektives Recyclingkonzept sind die Verfüg-barkeit von Recyclingasphalt (RA), ein funk-tionierender industrieller Recyclingprozess und einheitliche technische Vorgaben. Außerdem ist es entscheidend, dass sich alle Parteien gleichermaßen für die Umsetzung nachhalti-ger Lösungen engagieren. Straßeneigentümer sollten sich aktiv für die Wiederverwendung des Asphalts einsetzen, Auftragnehmer in die Zukunft investieren, und Wissenschaftler soll-ten an Eigenschaften arbeiten, die das beste Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis bieten.

New partnership

On the occasion of the Hungarian Rubber Association’s annualconference, which this year took place October 11-12 2018, Nordmann, Rassmann Hungária and Nordmann gave a lecture together on flame retardants. The focus of the talk was on in-tumescent systems and their mode of action in fire scenarios, the background to which being the new fire standard DIN EN 45545 for railway vehicles. Due to the much stricter fire protec-tion requirements the new DIN EN 45545 standard contains, current specifications for railway applications will no longer be sufficient in the future. New technical solutions must, there-fore, be found to reduce the risk of heat, smoke and toxic gases in railway vehicles in the event of a fire.

DE > Halogenfreie Flammschutzmittel für ungarische Gummi-industrie. Anlässlich der Jahrestagung des ungarischen Kaut-schukverbands vom 11. bis 12. Oktober 2018 haben die Nord-mann, Rassmann-Kollegen aus Ungarn und Deutschland einen Vortrag über Flammschutzmittel gehalten. Der Schwerpunkt lag dabei auf intumeszierenden Systemen und deren Wirkungs-weise in Brandszenarien. Hintergrund ist die neue Brandnorm DIN EN 45545 für Schienenfahrzeuge. Aufgrund der darin verankerten, stark gestiegenen Brandschutzanforderungen reichen aktuelle Standards bei Bahnanwendungen zukünftig nicht mehr aus. Um im Brandfall das Risiko von Hitze, Rauch und giftigen Gasen in Schienenfahrzeugen zu reduzieren, müssen daher neue technische Lösungen gefunden werden.

High-pressure hoses are used in many different ways and are always subject to high loads; using multi-layer hoses is, therefore, common practice. As a rule, these hoses consist of an inner core, a pressure carrier and an outer or jacket lay-er, whereby each of these components must meet different requirements and specification criteria. This means that flexibility, tight dimensional accu-racy and resistance to a wide variety of media such as water, air, oil and/or lubricants are all essential qualities for the inner core. In reinforcement, the focus is on ensuring compressive strength and lon-gevity of the braiding. Media resistance and abra-sion resistance are also important for the shea-thing layer. In order to be able to guarantee safety, high-pressure hoses must be both highly weather- resistant and durable.

Kraton™ Polymers, a leading global producer of fine chemicals and styrenic block copolymers (SBC), is a long-term partner of Nordmann. Kraton has developed a new product for their Enhanced Rubber Segment (ERS) range: Kraton™ MD1648.

Kraton™ SBC products allow for enduring product life cycles and minimized dosage levels. In combination with functional-ized grade technology, these products also enable the incorpo-ration of different or incompatible materials while simultane-ously simplifying production processes.

One possible area of application for Kraton™ SBC products are wood-plastic composite systems (WPC). These typically blend together a polymer and natural fillers to offer great ad-vantages over conventional wood-based materials. First and foremost, they are far more durable than wood and have lit-tle to no moisture uptake, making them dimensionally stable. By incorporating Kraton polymers into WPC, impact resistance can be increased significantly and the service temperature range extended.

The recently introduced high melt flow polymer Kraton™ MD1648 also provides other advantages. Due to its significant-ly higher flow properties, for instance, it wets natural fibers out nicely and safeguards reinforcement materials during process-ing. Kraton™ MD1648 also allows customers to run their pro-duction processes at lower temperatures, which helps keep fibers intact while also achieving energy savings.

manufacturing efficiency

by 40,000 tons.


Nordmann partner UBE Industries invests in its subsidiary UCE (UBE Corporation Europe S. A. Unipersonal) and expands nylon production in Castellón, eastern Spain.

The expansion of the plant will increase UCE’s annual pro-duction capacity by 40,000 tons, reaching a total volume of 70,000 tons of nylon. This is the Japanese company’s response to the steadily increasing demand for this versatile material. The new “Olive II” plant uses the exclusive technology deve-loped in-house for the production of polyamide 6 and various co-polyamides with a viscosity of 2.7 - 4.0. These are used for technical applications, for example in the automotive and food packaging sectors and for the production of monofilaments or technical components.

Nordmann sells a broad portfolio of these polyamide types (nylon) for various industrial applications, in particular for ex-trusion applications. These include pipes and cable protection solutions, semi-finished products (rods and sheets), profiles and filaments.

New to the Nordmann portfolio is UBE Nylon 1015B, a poly-amide 6 grade which, due to its low viscosity, can also be used for injection molding, for example for wheels and castors.


UBE expandspolyamide production

DE > UBE baut Produktion für Polyamid aus. Nordmann-Part-ner UBE Industries investiert in Tochterunternehmen UCE (UBE Corporation Europe S. A. Unipersonal) und erweitert die Nylon-produktion im ostspanischen Castellón.

Durch die Vergrößerung der Anlage steigt die jährliche Produk-tionskapazität von UCE um 40.000 Tonnen und erreicht so ein Gesamtvolumen von 70.000 Tonnen Nylon. Der japanische Konzern reagiert damit auf die stetig steigende Nachfrage nach dem vielfältig einsetzbaren Material. Die neue Anlage „Olive II“ nutzt die exklusive, eigenentwickelte Technologie zur Herstellung von Polyamid 6 und verschiedenen Co-Polyamiden mit einer Viskosität von 2,7 bis 4,0. Diese werden für technische Anwen-dungen eingesetzt, beispielsweise in den Bereichen Automotive und Food Packaging sowie für die Herstellung von Monofilamen-ten oder technischen Bauteilen.

Nordmann vertreibt ein breites Portfolio dieser Polyamid-typen (Nylon) für verschiedene industrielle Einsatzbereiche, ins-besondere für Extrusionsanwendungen. Dazu gehören beispiels-weise Rohre und Kabelschutzlösungen, Halbzeuge (Stangen und Platten), Profile sowie Filamente.

Neu im Nordmann-Portfolio ist UBE Nylon 1015B, ein Polyamid-6-Typ, der aufgrund der niedrigen Viskosität auch für Spritzguss eingesetzt werden kann, zum Beispiel für Räder und Rollen.

From now on, Nordmann distributes the concentrated color masterbatches of MESGO-Iride Colors in Europe. The granules are used for dyeing silicone rubber and various common synthetic rubbers such as EPDM, FKM, NBR and SBR.

MESGO Iride Colors was founded in 2013 as part of the acqui-sition of Iride Color, a company based in Garlasco, Italy. Since 1989, this company has been producing additives and color masterbatches for the dyeing of synthetic rubbers and silicone elastomers. MESGO Iride Colors develops products that are tailored to the needs of customers and meet specific market requirements. For example, the company supplies paste inks, where the dispersion of the individual components is achieved under high shear stress and using state-of-the-art technolo-gies. In addition, MESGO Iride Colors creates colors on customer request - either using a reference color chart (Ral or Pantone) or by transferring a color from one type of material to another.

TERATHANE® 3MCPG APPLICATIONS

The special properties of TERATHANE® 3MCPG allow them to be utilized in a wide range of applications such as: • sporting goods with enhanced low-temperature performance, e.g. skating wheels/

rollers (cast parts), ski boots (TPU) and/or golf ball covers (coating) • synthetic leathers with improved dynamic properties • winter clothing items that are more resistant to low temperatures • clearer coatings, e.g. for optical fibers • microcellular foam in shock absorbers and high-performance moving parts• co-polyether esters (COPEs) with better low-temperature and dynamic properties

for melt-extruded parts, foams and films, e.g. CV joint boots, springs, etc.

New low-crystalline intermediate for high-performance elastomers

TERATHANE® 3MCPG is a new and innovative intermediate from the house of INVISTA. The co-polyether glycol is used as a soft segment in high-performance polyurethanes, copolyes-ters and other polymers. Its international distribution is hand-led by Nordmann.

TERATHANE® 3MCPG is available in two molecular weight grades (1400 g/mol and 2000 g/mol) and has very low crys-tallinity. This results in a lower melting point of the soft seg-ments, giving the product some key advantages over PTMEG. These include: • Improved fatigue resistance at low temperatures (Figure 1):

TERATHANE® 3MCPG provides more resistance to stiffening as temperatures fall. It is also more stable in terms of flexibi-lity and other physical properties in response to temperature changes.

• Improved dynamic properties (Figure 2): The stress/strain curves show that the low crystalline structure of TERATHANE®

3MCPG contributes to increased power, lower hysteresis and reduced permanent set.

• Improved processing performance: TERATHANE® 3MCPG is liquid at room temperature, making it easier to handle and process. Due to the fact that product containers don’t require heating before processing, TERATHANE® 3MCPG could be considered for use in spray coatings, etc.

Temperaturen (Abbildung 1): TERATHANE® 3MCPG bietet bei sinkenden Temperaturen eine geringere Versteifung gegen-über PTMEG. Auch in Bezug auf Flexibilität und andere physi-kalische Eigenschaften verhält es sich bei Temperaturschwan-kungen stabiler.

• verbesserte Verarbeitungsbedingungen: TERATHANE® 3MCPG ist bei Raumtemperatur flüssig, was die Handhabung und Verarbeitung erleichtert. Da Produktbehälter vor der Verar-beitung nicht erhitzt werden müssen, ist die Verwendung in Systemen für Sprühbeschichtungen denkbar.

DE > Neu im Nordmann-Portfolio: Farb-Masterbatche. Nord-mann vertreibt in Europa die Farb-Masterbatche der MESGO Iride Colors. Die Granulate werden eingesetzt zum Färben von Silikonkautschuk sowie diverser gängiger Synthesekautschuke wie beispielsweise EPDM, FKM, NBR und SBR.

MESGO Iride Colors wurde 2013 im Zuge der Übernahme von Iride Color gegründet, mit einem Fertigungsstandort unter an-derem in Garlasco, Italien. Dieses Unternehmen produziert seit 1989 Zusatzstoffe und Farb-Masterbatches zur Einfärbung von Synthesekautschuken und Silikonelastomeren während des Compoundingprozesses. MESGO Iride Colors entwickelt Pro-dukte, die auf die Bedürfnisse der Kunden zugeschnitten sind und den spezifischen Anforderungen entsprechen. So liefert das Unternehmen beispielsweise Pastenfarben, bei denen die Dispergierung der einzelnen Komponenten unter hoher Scher-spannung und mithilfe modernster Technologien erreicht wird. Darüber hinaus erstellt MESGO Iride Colors individuelle Farben auf Kundenwunsch – entweder anhand einer Referenzfarb-karte (RAL oder Pantone) oder durch die Übertragung einer Farbe von einer Materialart auf eine andere.

The Association of German Rubber Manufacturing Industry, or wdk (short for “Wirtschaftsverband der deutschen Kautschuk-industrie e.V.” in German) has started an image campaign called “We move our world”. Frederik Röhrs, Sales Director Elastomers Germany for Nordmann, reports here about the initiative, rubber as a raw material and rubber’s significance for Nordmann.

How important is rubber on an international market level?It’s quite significant. In Germany, we mainly import raw mate-rials, but the German rubber industry also exports its technical products to a large extent – and we have important trading partners like China, South Korea, Japan and North America. Many of our customers and suppliers have production plants all over the world. For this reason, rubber plays an important role in the international arena.

What significance does rubber have for Nordmann?Rubbers and rubber chemicals have been an important part of Nordmann’s portfolio ever since the company was founded. Today, Nordmann’s rubber division represents over 45 different suppliers, distributing a broad range of rubber-chemicals, synthetic rubbers and ready-to-use mix-tures of high-quality silicone and fluorosilicone rubbers.

Why is Nordmann a wdk member?Because we believe in the wdk. The rubber industry is relatively small, so it needs to have overarching support and the coordination of in-dustry interests. The wdk strengthens its member companies in a variety of ways so that they can each maintain and bolster their competitiveness and technologi-cal leadership. This is crucial for Nordmann, and that is why we are very happy to be a wdk member.

The wdk has just launched a new image campaign. Why does rubber need such a thing? The campaign shows how relevant the rubber industry is to everyday life. Although the rubber industry is often described as conservative, I see it in a more nuanced way: it is conservative in terms of its sense of values, but innovative and dynamic when it comes to product solutions. Rubber is characterized by las-ting elasticity and durability; it is versatile, and a unique material that can also hardly be replaced. All of these aspects, as well as a passion for rubber, are reflected in the image campaign.

What goals are the wdk aiming to achieve with the imagecampaign?The campaign slogan “We move our world” indicates a lot in that respect: Movement is important, and as companies and as an industry we all have to adapt. The campaign is also ma-king the diversity, significance and everyday benefits of rub-ber products visible to a broad audience. For example, some exciting short films are now being featured on the website www.wemoveourworld.org.

The choice of metal-based catalyst can have a large influence on stability when placed on the A-side of either polyurethane foams or elas-tomers. Standard organotin catalysts such as DBTL and the mercaptides provide the best shelf-life stability in two-part polyurethane systems, typically attaining the 12-month level of stability that is desired. On the other hand, standard bismuth carboxylate-based catalysts such as bismuth neodecanoate and bismuth octoate tend to impart a shorter shelf-life of only three to four months. Reaxis has developed a bismuth catalyst called Re-axis C739E50 that imparts levels of shelf-life stability similar to those attained by standard organotin catalysts. The gel time data below shows shelf-life in a two-component MDI/polyether-based polyurethane in which the catalysts were added to A-side.

DE > Bismuth-Katalysator mit langer Halt-barkeit. Die Wahl der Katalysatoren auf Metallbasis kann großen Einfluss auf die Sta-bilität des PU-Systems haben, wenn sie auf der A-Seite von Polyurethanschaumstoffen oder Elastomeren platziert werden. Dabei bieten Standard-Organozinn-Katalysatoren wie DBTL und Mercaptide die beste Halt-barkeit in zweiteiligen Polyurethansystemen, üblicherweise zwölf Monate. Katalysatoren auf Basis von Bismuth Carboxylat, Bismuth Neode canoat und Bismuth Octoat wiederum weisen eine meist geringere Haltbarkeit von drei bis vier Monaten auf. Reaxis hat nun einen Bismuth-Katalysator entwickelt, der eine vergleichbare Reaktivität sowie eine ähnliche Haltbarkeit wie Standard-Zinn-Katalysatoren bietet: Reaxis C739E50.

Welchen Stellenwert hat Kautschuk auf den internationalen Märkten?Einen bedeutenden. Während wir in Deutschland die Rohstoffe vorwiegend importieren, exportiert unsere Kautschukindustrie in hohem Maße ihre technischen Erzeugnisse. Wichtige Han-delspartner sind China, Südkorea, Japan und Nordamerika. Viele unserer Kunden und Lieferanten haben weltweit Produk-tionswerke. Daher nimmt Kautschuk in der internationalen Betrachtung einen hohen Stellenwert ein.

Welche Bedeutung hat Kautschuk für Nordmann?Kautschuke und Kautschukchemikalien sind seit Firmengrün-

dung wichtiger Bestandteil des Nordmann-Portfolios. Heute wird der Bereich von über 45 verschiedenen

Lieferanten repräsentiert – von Kautschukchemi-ka lien und Synthesekautschuken bis hin zu verarbeitungsfertigen Mischungen aus hoch-wertigen Silikon- und Fluorsilikonkautschuken.

Warum ist Nordmann Mitglied im wdk?Wir sind es aus Überzeugung. Die Kautschuk-

industrie ist vergleichsweise klein – es bedarf da-her einer übergeordneten Unterstützung und Koor-

dination des Brancheninteresses. Über diverse Wege stärkt der wdk seine Mitgliedsunternehmen, damit diese

ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und technologische Führungsrolle erhalten und ausbauen können. Das ist für uns maßgeblich – und darum sind wir sehr gern Mitglied im wdk.

Der wdk hat eine Imagekampagne ins Leben gerufen. Warum braucht Kautschuk eine solche Initiative?Die Kampagne zeigt, wie alltagsrelevant die Industrie ist. Sie wird oft als konservativ bezeichnet, aber ich sehe das differen-zierter: Konservativ im Werteempfinden gern, hinsichtlich der Produktlösungen jedoch ist die Industrie innovativ und dyna-misch. Kautschuk zeichnen dauerhafte Elastizität und Bestän-digkeit aus, er ist vielseitig, einzigartig und ein kaum zu erset-zendes Material. All diese Aspekte inklusive der Leidenschaft für Kautschuk werden in der Imagekampagne aufgegriffen.

Welche Ziele verfolgt der wdk mit der Imagekampagne?Das Motto der Kampagne zeigt die Richtung: „We move our world“. Bewegung ist wichtig, als Unternehmen und als Branche müssen wir uns anpassen. Die Vielfalt, die Bedeutung und der alltägliche Nutzen von Kautschukprodukten werden für ein breites Publi-kum sichtbar gemacht. So gibt es beispielsweise auf der Website www.wemoveourworld.org spannende Kurzfilme zum Thema.
