HEC-RAS Extension for AutoCAD® Civil 3D® Readme

The HEC-RAS Extension for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 is an application for exporting Civil 3D data for analysis in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS public domain software. After analysis in the HEC-RAS software, you can then reimport the data into your drawing.

Requirements

You must have AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 (any version) installed before you install the HEC-RAS Extension.

Known Issues

After you install the extension, close the Toolbox before opening any drawing files. Attempting to open a drawing without first closing the Toolbox can cause AutoCAD Civil 3D to fail unexpectedly. Closing and reopening the Toolbox resolves this issue.

If you remove the extension from the Toolbox, you cannot reinstall it, as the application is still installed. To reinstall the extension, first follow the uninstall instructions.

Installing and Uninstalling

The installation of the HEC-RAS Extension is a two-part process. You first run a self-extracting zip file that places the installation files in a folder on your system. Then you must browse to that folder and double-click the executable file to complete the installation process.

To install the HEC-RAS Extension

1. On the Subscription Center Download page, click Download Now to download the self-extractable HEC RAS Import Export Extension 2010.exe file.

2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the location where you downloaded the executable file and double-click the file.

3. In the HEC-RAS Installation Wizard, follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: If the Toolbox is open when you install the extension, you must close and reopen it to view the tool in the tab.

To uninstall the HEC-RAS Tools

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

3. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box:

Click HEC RAS Import/Export Extension for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 on AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 - English.

Click Remove.

Note: If the Toolbox is open when you remove the extension, you must close and reopen it to remove the tool from the tab.

Using the Extension

The HEC-RAS Extension tools are placed in the AutoCAD Civil 3D Toolbox.

To access the HEC-RAS Tools

1. In AutoCAD Civil 3D, click Home tab > Palettes dropdown > Toolbox.

2. Expand HEC RAS Extension > HEC RAS Import/Export to access the HEC-RAS export or import tools.

3. Double-click HEC RAS Export or HEC RAS Import, or right-click the tool and click Execute to run the commands.
