IntroductionCisco Prime LAN Management Solution provides powerful features that enable you to configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and administer Cisco networks. It also supports Cisco technologies such as Identity, EnergyWise, Auto Smartports, and Smart Install.

Compliance Management License SupportIn LMS 4.2.1, LMS-COMP Evaluation Management License has been renamed as “Compliance Management License” (PI CM), which is a 60 day evaluation license.

Note If Compliance Management License device count is lesser than LMS license device count , then the user will get the device count mismatch message.

On launching any of the Compliance and Audit Manager (CAAM) pages for the first time, the user will get the license expiry notification pop-up.

User needs a Compliance Management License to access some of the CAAM features. If the Compliance Management License is not applied after evaluation period then the following functionalities will be disabled:

• All the licensed reports.

• All the system policy groups except Cisco Security Advisory (PSIRT) and End of Life (EOL), and all the policies associated with those groups.

Note On license expiry, compliance check scheduling is allowed for all policies, but the compliance check execution is skipped and the violations will not be listed for the licensed policies.

Work Center EnhancementsIn the Readiness Reports and Getting Started pages, within the technology work centers, an Export option is added. The export option allows customers and partners to export readiness assessment details to a CSV file. The CSV report provides a summary of the device details like readiness category, readiness device count, and device percentage displayed in the pie chart and in the table.

Template Center EnhancementsLMS 4.2.1 provides the following Template Center enhancements:

LMS 4.2.1 allows you to edit the configuration template. Using the import option, you can import the template from local drive, edit the required template details and export the edited configuration template to Template Center.

System and Browser Requirements for Server and Client

Syslog Reports EnhancementFor Syslog reports, previously, the report generator only allows for searches based on the last 24 hours, or by day or days, or by a date range. But now all the Syslog Reports are included with an option for selecting time in addition to date range as the syslog data are voluminous.

System and Browser Requirements for Server and ClientBefore you begin to install LMS software, you must check if your system meets the recommended prerequisites.

The recommended LMS 4.2.1 server and client requirements on the supported operating systems are based on the license that you use on a single server or multi-server setup. For more information, refer System and Browser Requirements for Server and Client in Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.

Downloading Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.1You can download LMS 4.2.1 either from Cisco.com or as a Software Update from:

Downloading From Cisco.comLMS 4.2.1 is available on Cisco.com. To download LMS 4.2.1:

Step 2 Click Solaris, Soft Appliance or Windows.

Step 3 Download the LMS 4.2.1 software zip file into a directory on your system.

Step 4 Check the checksum value of the downloaded files with the values given below:

Downloading Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.1

Downloading From Software CenterYou can use the Software Update function in LMS Software Center to download LMS 4.2.1.

To download LMS 4.2.1 from Software Center:

Step 1 Go to the Cisco Prime home page and select Admin > System > Software Center > Software Update.

The Software Updates page appears.

Step 2 In the Products Installed table, select the checkbox corresponding to LAN Management Solution.

Step 3 Click either:

• Download Updates. See Using the Download Updates Option.

Or

• Select Updates. See Using the Select Updates Option.

Using the Download Updates Option

To download LMS 4.2.1 using the Download Updates option:

Step 1 Click Download Updates on the Software Updates page.

The Cisco.com and Proxy Server Credentials dialog box appears.

Step 2 Enter your Cisco.com username and password. Both are mandatory.

If you have configured proxy settings under Admin > System > Cisco.com Settings > Proxy Server

Setup, enter the Proxy server username and password.

Step 3 Click Next.

The Destination Location page appears. The destination location should not be the location where Cisco Prime is installed.

The default download directory is:

/opt/psu_download—On Solaris

/opt/psu_download—On Soft Appliance

System Drive:\psu_download—On Windows

Software Center does not support downloading software or device updates into the same directory where you have installed Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution, or any of its sub- directories. Also, you cannot download software or device updates under System directories.

Step 4 Enter the location, or browse to the location using the Browse tab.

The destination location must have casuser write-permissions.

Step 5 Click Next.

The Summary page appears with a summary of your inputs.

Step 6 Click Finish to confirm the download operation.

Installing Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.1

Using the Select Updates Option

To download LMS 4.2.1 using the Select Updates option:

Step 1 Click Select Updates in the Software Updates page.

The Cisco.com and Proxy Server Credentials dialog box appears.

Step 2 Enter your Cisco.com username and password. Both are mandatory.

If you have configured proxy settings under Admin > System > Cisco.com Settings > Proxy Server

Setup, enter the Proxy server username and password.

The Available Images page appears.

Step 3 Either:

• Select the lms4_2_1_sol_k9.zip file, for Solaris.

• Select the lms4_2_1_lnx_k9.zip file, for Soft Appliance

• Select the lms4_2_1_win_k9.zip, for Windows.

Step 4 Click Next.

The Destination Location page appears. The destination location should not be the location where Cisco Prime is installed.

The default download directory is:

Installing Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.1This section describes on how you can install Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.1 on Solaris, Soft Appliance, and Windows systems.

The LMS 4.2.1 installation program takes approximately 35 minutes to complete on Windows, Soft Appliance and Solaris, on a single server with the recommended hardware requirements.

This can take more than two hours if you perform network management integration while installing.

• If Virus Check is enabled in your system, then installation of LMS 4.2.1 will take a longer time.

• If HP Openview or Netview is running on your system, installation will take a longer time. Stop these services to run a faster installation.

Installing LMS 4.2.1 on SolarisTo install the LMS 4.2.1 on a Solaris system for the first time:

Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system, where you have downloaded the lms4_2_1_sol_k9.zip.

Step 2 Unzip the lms4_2_1_sol_k9.zip file.

The contents of the zip file are extracted under the lms4_2_1_sol_k9 directory.

Step 3 Navigate to the lms4_2_1_sol_k9 folder.

Step 4 Run the installation setup script by entering:

# sh setup.sh

or

# ./setup.sh

A Welcome message appears:

Welcome to Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.1 setup program.

A prompt appears:

Press Enter to read/browse the following license agreement:

Step 5 Press Enter to read the license agreement.

The following message appears at the end of the license agreement:

Do you accept all the terms of the License Agreement? (y/n) [n]:

Step 6 Enter Y to accept the license agreement and proceed with the installation, or enter N to deny and quit the installation.

While installing from the network drive, the Installing from Network Drive message appears.

Installation from the network drive will be slower than installing from the local drive.

Step 7 Enter Y to proceed or N to exit installation.

A Warning message appears:

Installing LMS 4.2.1 on Soft ApplianceTo upgrade from LMS 4.2 to LMS 4.2.1:

Step 1 Log in to the shell and navigate to the location where the upgrade file, lms4_2_1_lnx_k9.zip is stored.

Note The login name that appears in the command prompt depends on the login name entered by the user while installing LMS on VM Console.

Step 2 Unzip the lms4_2_1_lnx_k9.zip file to extract Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2_1.tar.gz.

[myhost/ root-ade myloc] unzip lms4_2_1_lnx_k9.zip

Step 3 Copy the Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2_1.tar.gz to local disk partition of LMS 4.2 installed server (/localdisk).

Step 4 Login with your credentials to the VM Console through Vsphere client.

Step 5 Create either a local or remote repository. A repository contains URL and credential details

Step 6 Combine the URL to the repository that uses a local or remote storage.

Save the ADE-OS running configuration?(yes/no) [yes]?

Step 8 Press Enter to continue with LMS 4.2.1 upgrade.

An Application upgrade successful message appears.

Installing LMS 4.2.1 on WindowsTo install LMS 4.2.1 on a Windows system for the first time:

Step 1 Login as administrator to the machine where you want to install LMS 4.2.1.

Step 2 Navigate to the location on your system, where you have downloaded the lms4_2_1_win_k9.zip.

Step 3 Unzip the lms4_2_1_win_k9.zip file.

The contents of the zip file are extracted under the lms4_2_1_win_k9 directory.

Step 4 Double-click on the setup.exe file.


Warning: Automatic data backup does not happen during this installation. We recommend you

to take a backup of data before starting this installation.

Step 5 Click Yes to proceed or No to exit installation

The Prerequisites window appears.

Step 6 Read the prerequisite details and click OK.

Step 7 Click Install in the LMS setup window.

The Installation Completed wizard appears.

The Installation Completed wizard has view buttons that allow you to view the following details:

• Errors and Warnings

• Installation Information

• Health Monitor Report

Errors and Warnings

The View button will be enabled only if errors are encountered during installation. You can view the error details on clicking the View button.

Installation Information

Provides information on how to download and install the latest Service Packs, Point Patches, Device Package updates, Config Templates, or the User Tracking Utility 2.0. You must obtain a valid license key from Cisco.com within 60 days. If the number of managed devices exceeds 5000, only Inventory, config, and Image Management functions can remain enabled. Select Admin > System > Device Management Functions to disable the other functions. However, you can setup LMS in another server to enable all the other functions for the additional devices.

Health Monitor Report

The Health Monitor report provides the following Hardware Parameter details:

• Memory availability

• Swap

• CPU

• DSN

• Backup status

• Number of MIB objects being polled

• Maximum number of MIB objects that can be managed

• Syslog database size

Step 8 Click Finish to exit the Installation Completed wizard.

Re-installing LMS 4.2.1Re-installation is installing the product over the existing one without performing an uninstallation.

You can re-install LMS 4.2.1 by running the installation program on the system currently running the product. LMS 4.2.1 supports new installation and re-installation of applications at the same time.

Re-installation preserves the settings from the previous installation.

LMS applications will automatically be installed in the same location, where the previous version was installed.

Re-installing LMS 4.2.1 in Solaris

To reinstall LMS 4.2.1 in Solaris.

Step 1 Navigate to the location on your system, where you have downloaded the lms4_2_1_sol_k9.zip.

Step 2 Unzip the lms4_2_1_sol_k9.zip file.

The contents of the zip file are extracted under the lms4_2_1_sol_k9 directory.

Step 3 Navigate to the lms4_2_1_sol_k9 folder.

Step 4 Run the installation setup script by entering:

# sh setup.sh

or

# ./setup.sh

Upgrading to LMS 4.2.1

Note LMS 4.2.1 installation automatically use the installation mode that you selected while installing LMS 4.2. You cannot change the LMS 4.2.1 installation mode.

Re-installing LMS 4.2.1 in Windows

To reinstall LMS 4.2.1 in Windows.

Step 1 Login as administrator to the machine where you want to install LMS 4.2.1.

Step 2 Navigate to the location on your system, where you have downloaded the lms4_2_1_win_k9.zip.

Step 3 Unzip the lms4_2_1_win_k9.zip file.

The contents of the zip file are extracted under the lms4_2_1_win_k9 directory.

Step 4 Double-click on the setup.exe file.


WARNING: Automatic data backup does not happen during this installation. We recommend you

to take a backup of data before starting this installation.

Step 5 Click Yes to proceed or No to exit installation


Warning: Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2.1 is already installed in your system. Do you want to reinstall?

The Prerequisites window appears.

Step 7 Read the prerequisite details and click OK.

Step 8 Click Install in the LMS setup window.

The Installation Completed wizard appears

Step 9 Click Finish to exit the Installation Completed wizard.

While setting up HA and DR environment in LMS server, ensure to set them prior to LMS installation. – Advanced—Select the Show only bugs containing bug details checkbox to view only those bugs that contain detailed information, such as symptoms and workarounds.

– Modified Date—Select this option if you want to filter bugs based on the date on which the bugs were last modified.

– Results Displayed Per Page—Select the appropriate option from the list to restrict the number of results that appear per page.

Step 4 Click Search. The Bug Toolkit displays the list of bugs based on the specified search criteria.

Export to Spreadsheet

The Bug ToolKit provides the following options to export bugs to a spreadsheet:

• Click Export All to Spreadsheet link in the Search Results page under the Search Bugs tab. Specify file name and folder name to save the spreadsheet. All the bugs retrieved by the search will be exported.

• Click Export All to Spreadsheet link in the My Notifications tab. Specify file name and folder name to save the spreadsheet. All the saved bugs in all the groups will be exported.

CSCty65794 In a Compliance Check View report, if user tries to mouse hover on the information icons in 'Violation with Fix' and 'Violation without Fix' then the 'Suggested fix' available is appearing blank with no information.

In the Template Center Port and Module flow and NetConfig Port and Module flow, login into LMS as a user other than network operator or newly created user, the group selector groups are displayed.

CSCtt46555 Issue with Global commands in Module-based templates.

The following issues are identified:

• When you create a module-based template and import the template, the same global commands are displayed multiple times in the preview CLI window during job scheduling.This issues occurs in the Template Center Module-based template. If the capable device has multiple modules, the preview CLI displays the global commands multiple times.

• For Module based global parameters, syntax is not validated.

Workaround:

You must ensure that the correct value is entered as mentioned in the Global Parameter page.

CSCtu21015 NME module device is not able to fetch the result of the ShComplnceReportCmndset commandset.

When you select the NME module device and "Show Compliance Report Commands Info" commandset, and click on the Next button, the following pop-up message appears:“NS0036: None of the device(s) have applicable commands.”

In the Inventory Custom Template, the Bridge: Base Bridge Address and System :OSI Layer Service attributes need to be enhanced for the "contains","startswith","endswith" operators under the following conditions:

• The validation present for the attribute Bridge: Base Bridge Address in rule creation, does not allow to enter partial value. If you try to create a rule with the operator, “startswith” and the value, 00:0b, it will not be accepted as a valid input.

• For the System: OSI Layer Service attribute, the “contains”, "startswith", and "endswith" operators need to be enhanced as comma-separated attribute values.

• If rule is provides as System: OSI Layer Service startswith Datalink, the only device that has 'Datalink' service alone is filtered. The device that has any other service supported along with 'Datalink' is not getting displayed in report.

Workaround:

CSCtu26759 In Inventory Custom Template, report generation failed during some scenarios.

A blank screen is displayed in the report when you create an Inventory custom template with the following attributes:

CSCtw92725 In CAAM, enhancement is required for Terminal Access policy.

For the rule "Check for incoming connections" in Terminal Access policy, it checks for both Telnet and SSH separately and data is displayed is displayed as failed for both Telnet and SSH in all CAAM reports. If either Telnet or SSH passes, the data is not displayed as passed in the report. Only the failed result is displayed, which can cause confusion. Hence, enhancement is required so that the successful results are also displayed in all CAAM reports for Terminal Access policy.

This issue occurs when the user launches any report that has Terminal Access rules.

CSCtx34710 In CAAM, Inventory, Config, and Show commands need to be collected while synchronization.

2. Launch the profile execution report after the job is completed successfully.

CSCtx57088 There are dynamic UI validation issues in CAAM Policy Group.

The following issues are identified:

• Validation fails for some policies when the user moves from one policy to another or when a policy is saved.

• When the validation fails, the error message appears but the radio button selection moves to the next selection.

• In some rare scenarios, the radio button selection moves to the next policy even if the rules present in the dynamic UI are invalid or out of range.

• In HTTP policy, the out of range message appears inconsistently along with a yellow color highlighted text box. This needs to be tracked through xwt forum.

None. This issue is inconsistent. The yellow color appearing is the behavior of the widget.

Note You can install LMS in D drive and collect archives in C drive or any other drive (if exists) other than the D drive in which LMS is installed.

CSCtw51607 Device under NAT environment is not collected in EnergyWise

The device maintained under NAT environment and managed with public IP is shown in all the technology workcenter except EnergyWise. In LMS, EnergyWise needs subnet details of a device, which is done through MIB polling. Hence, if the device is managed with NATed IP address then EnergyWise collection fails.

Workaround:

None.

CSCua12183 Policy Group UI is stuck when the policy is clicked.

When the policy group is clicked on the left pane, appropriate policies associated with it should be loaded on the right pane, there are two load areas Policy list and in turn policy details.

When the policy group is clicked, all the policies of the group should be listed and the first policy in that list should be selected by default. Doing so, the details of first policy should be available on the right pane subpanel.

In this case, neither the right pane policy list is loaded nor the first policy details. The pane sub-panel will be in Loading state forever.

Workaround:

Click on some other group and navigate back to the first clicked group or refresh the page.

CSCua12204 Policy violation launch page hangs for 4.2 jobs executed in 4.2.1.

When a job is created in 4.2 or 4.2.1 after CAAM license expiry or in evaluation mode and made it to run in 4.2.1 with CAAM license applied, the policy violation launch page hangs for 4.2 jobs executed in 4.2.1.

Workaround:

Use the View Report option available in job browser window.

CSCua12212 For Profile with duplicate policy, Fix Violation "Not Attempted".

When a Profile is created with more than one policy group with same policy in it and executed, the command to execute will not generate and the operation will be "Not Attempted".

• Create a profile without any duplicate policy.

This occurs because these devices are seen as CDP Neighbours of the switch/router that they are attached to, but they do not respond to snmp polling.

• CIVS-IPC-2621V sends snmp traps but doesn't respond to snmp requests.

• Cisco AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 will respond to snmp polling, but only from the WLC.

Workaround:

1. Make a backup copy of the files CSDiscovery-config.xml and system-config.xml in the directory \CSCOpx\conf\csdiscovery

2. Edit the files CSDiscovery-config.xml and system-config.xml and locate the section <CDPID>, and then insert the following lines :

<CDP Platform="CIVS-IPC-2621V"/>

<CDP Platform="cisco AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9"/>

NB There are 3 trailing spaces after AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 and these are needed.

3. After editing these files make sure there are no syntax errors by opening the files with the WebBrowser on your LMS server.

4. Stop and re-start LMS in order for the changes to take effect.

BRI ports alone are not getting listed under the Port Attributes report.

Workaround:

CSCtz76820 UTLite33 should update correct IP Address of the user with multiple NICs.

UTLite33 application gets adapter info correctly, however when updating UTManager sends packets as NIC ip address = 0.0.0.0.

This happens when multiple interfaces exist and are not disabled.

Workaround:

Completely disable all other interfaces except the one currently in use.

CSCtx11751 Issue in Dual IPV6 Configuration device.

IPv6 details are not shown in IPv6 addresses list in Topology.

This issue is specific to 4500 device. It does not return any value for the mib cIpAddressEntry.

Workaround:

None.

CSCtl96069 Cloud color is not updated when Topology receives an add event.

Cloud color is not updated when add event is received by topology. When you add a device to LMS, either using Device Management (DCR) or using groups, the corresponding user-defined groups do not appear in the Topology. Moreover, the color of the group is incorrect.

Workaround:

Restart the Topology.

CSCtn42049 Deleted user-defined groups do not get deleted from Topology Services.

The Topology cloud does not change to red if any device in this group goes down. Also, if the device is unmanaged in UDM, the Topology cloud does not change to green.

This issue occurs under the following condition:

1. Create a user-defined group.

2. Delete the user-defined group.

3. Create a new user-defined group.

4. Launch the Topology Services. You can view the deleted user-defined group in the Topology cloud.

Workaround:

None.

CSCua33323 Issue in launching the help page from the generated Deviations/Discrepancies reports.

When launching help page from the Deviations/Discrepancies reports from Reports > Fault and Event > Best Practices > Deviations/Discrepancies, the help page is throwing Apache Tomcat error in the following scenarios:

1. When clicking the type of the Best Practices or Network discrepancies link from the report.

2. When clicking the help button in the summary pop-up of Best Practices or Network discrepancies from the report.

3. When clicking the help button from the Fix pop-up of Best Practices or Network discrepancies from the report.

Workaround:

By clicking the help link directly from the Best Practices and Discrepancies report generator pages, the help can be viewed.
