Scan and Say

Scan and Say is a pre-reading activity. Learners interact with the text by scanning for specific information.

Reading Passage

The reading passage is level-appropriate and presented in a variety of ways. Learners will encounter the key structure and new vocabulary items in the text. The audio CD provides learners with the opportunity to listen to the passage before, during, or after reading.

Think and Talk

Think and Talk is a post-reading activity. It allows learners to connect the theme of the passage to their own lives.

Reading Jet Lesson Flow

School Subject

The colored tab at the top of each unit indicates the school subject the reading passage relates to.

Key Structure

Key Structure shows learners an example of the grammatical focus for each unit. Learners will encounter the key structure in the reading passage and subsequent activities.

Picture Reading

Picture Reading requires learners to answer questions that are related to the unit photograph. This helps to spark learners’ interest and knowledge of the topic and gets them to engage with the picture.

Warm-up

Warm-up introduces learners to six new vocabulary items through English definitions and photos. The audio CD provides correct pronunciation of each word or phrase for students to model.

Workbook

A workbook is conveniently embedded at the back of each Student Book for learners to complete in the classroom or at home as homework.

Reading Comprehension

Reading Comprehension helps learners to elicit both the main idea and specific information from the reading passage.

Story Map

Story Map guides learners to organize key information in a systematic way for better understanding of the passage.

Word Practice

Word Practice reinforces learners’ understanding of the unit’s vocabulary items.

Structure Practice

Structure Practice allows learners to use the unit’s key structure in a similar context to demonstrate understanding.

A requires students to review the vocabulary items of each unit. In later units, vocabulary items and key structures are recycled in the sentences so that cumulative learning can take place.

B requires learners to review the key structure in a new context from how it was presented in the unit.

C requires learners to revisit the reading passage and complete a summary to ensure understanding.
