How do I begin the application

process?

Go to http://victor.dollarsforscholars.org and click on the ‘Students and

Parents’ tab. At the bottom of the page, click on the ‘Click to Login’ button.

Students set up their profile and submit essays all in this one place.

Be sure that you select the correct Victor Central School (Victor, N.Y.). There are other Victor High Schools in the country!

Students complete the preliminary profile - fill in ALL double asterisks (**).

Once you receive your confirmation email from Scholarship America, you can log in on the website. 5

This is where you will go to start, or continue, to work

on your student profile.

As you move through the application, the

dashboard on the main page will indicate the

percentage completed.

IMPORTANT!! Along the left side of the tabs is a color coded key to see your progress. It will

show ‘yellow’ if partially completed. It will show ‘red’ if not started. The categories in

green, parent/guardian info, financial info, transcripts, and references are NOT required by

Victor Central School.

NOTE – You are only

required to do the

double asterisk boxes.

In the end, the tab will

only show yellow if the

single asterisk boxes

are not filled in. That is

okay.

There are scholarships that are keyed to a particular college or

major. Be accurate and thorough to give yourself the most

opportunities. Some questions you may not be able to answer at

this time.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO CHECK EITHER BOX

Choose: ‘I have high school GPA information only’

ONLY fill in your

CUMULATIVE HS GPA (NOT individual grade

levels). The converted score will be created for you.

Seniors can access their current GPA via Naviance. You will want to use the GPA after 1st quarter of your senior year. Grades in Naviance should be updated no later than late November.

Test ScoresFor test scores, be sure to put in

your COMPOSITE ACT score (not the individual breakdown of scores) and/or the individual

SAT scores (after 2016).

List ALL AP courses with test scoresthat you have taken. In addition, list any AP courses you are taking senior

year and put a ‘1’ as your place marker for a test score. Those courses

are calculated into your overall application score.

Activities

For activities, put in ALL POSSIBLE activities you are involved in – sports, music, community service, etc.

This helps you earn points on your application. Be sure to limit entries to your high school years.

‘Volunteer activities’ is a large factor in many of the scholarships offered. IF THERE IS ANY COMPONENT OF YOUR ACTIVITY THAT INVOLVES VOLUNTEERING, PLEASE SELECT ‘VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES’ IN THE DROP DOWN MENU. Be sure to list any and all activities!!

KEY CLUB ACTIVITIES, CARES CLUB, NHS, CHURCH ACTIVITIES, ETC. should

be marked as ‘VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES,’ NOT CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS OR CHURCH/RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES.

*If you have a question, please see Mrs. Fiorito or Mrs. Merges

At the bottom of each activity entry, you can include any honors such as captain, leadership role, or awards.

listings are applicable.

ActivitiesOnce you have entered all of your activities, be sure to click

‘yes’ and ‘save.’ Limit your activities to high school years.

Continue with the same process for Awards and Employment. If you do not have any awards or have not been employed, you

simply click the appropriate button.

You do NOT need to add anything for ‘Documents.’

Parent/Guardian InformationIf you are under the age of 18 at the time you fill out the application, you MUST receive

permission from your parent/guardian. (Otherwise your application will not be accepted)Fill out the parent/guardian information and click ‘request consent from parent/guardian.’

If you are already 18 years old, the application will recognize this and you will not have to get parent/guardian permission.

VHS Dollars for Scholars DOES require students to submit a ‘Goals and Aspirations’ essay to be eligible for scholarships. VHS DOES NOT have a specific length requirement, but be as specific as possible about your goals and aspirations.

Unusual Circumstances Essay

The “unusual circumstances” essay should be completed ONLY by students who persevered through a difficult time and will be considered for hardship cases. Examples might include health issues/medical conditions, disability, death, tragic event, difficult home situation, moving from a different country, etc. If you do not have any, simply put ‘N/A’ in the box.

On the login page (dashboard), under ‘My Scholarships,’select ‘Search

for Scholarships’ OR under your profile tabs, click on ‘My Scholarships.’

NOTE: Please realize that scholarships may show up at a later date, so

consistently check back.

Click on ‘Verify Eligibility for All Scholarships’

Based on scholarships you potentially qualify for, you may have to answer

a variety of custom eligibility questions. Eligibility will depend on your

answers – be sure to answer them ACCURATELY and honestly.

After completing all of the custom eligibility questions,

click ‘APPLY’ for EVERY scholarship you qualify for(even if you think you might not get it, you have qualified for it so it doesn’t hurt to submit your name)

For a few of the scholarships, additional questions or an essay may be

required for you to qualify.

You will then see a list of scholarships you’ve applied for under ‘submitted applications.’

The committee will review all eligible applications in the spring and you will be

notified by late April if you have won a scholarship.
