1. Cole walks over to a cedar tree and acts as if he will beat it up.

"Cole crouched before the solid trunk and doubled his fists menacingly. The tree defied him."

2. Cole yells at the tree to get out of his way and threatens to beat it up.

"Get out of my way!I'm warning you!"

"Again and again he warned the tree to move out of his way. When it remained, he lunged forward, swinging his fists within inches of the trunk."

3. Cole kicks at the fire

"Cursing wildly, he turned back to the flames and gave the burning chunks of wood a hard kick. Flames and hot ashes exploded into the dark."

4. Cole relives the bear attack

"Twisting on the ground, he relived the pain, the cold and the lonliness."

"Then, with an exaggerated motion, he heaved the rock into the water. "

6. Cole puts the pieces of firewood that he originally kicked back into the fire

"One by one he returned the scattered chunks to the fire pit, each piece becoming a part of his dance and a part of his healing."

"With each lunge, he struck the tree harder, ignoring the pain."

8. Cole apologizes and forgives

"In the middle of the night, he sank to his knees at the base of the tall cedar, his body shaking with sobs. 'I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!' he whispered. At that moment, words he had never been able to speak before welled up inside him. 'I forgive you,' he cried loudly. 'I forgive you.'"

1. What does Cole believe to be the secret to be invisible? Why does he come to this conclusion?

2. What does Cole see after allowing his mind to clear and letting himself become one with nature?

3. Cole decides that he can now do the anger dance. When he is doing it, he screams “Please forgive me! I didn’t mean to hurt Peter!” Think back to his motivations at the time of the assault, Cole’s family history, and Cole’s reaction to Peter when he hears him speak for the first time since the assault at the Circle on page 40. Is this statement true?
