Met with John Herdson CA Aquatics who explained that the Kendall Ridge Pool bathrooms and parking lot have been updated to comply with ADA requirements In addition the Jeffers Hill Pool has new furniture and sand in the volley ball court

Sean Harbough Assistant Manager of CA Open Space met with the board and informed them that Long Reach has 253 acres of open space and mows 80 acres weekly Open space also maintains 58 bridges 23 playgrounds basketball courts at Locust Park and Phelps Luck Tennis courts at Locust Park and Jackson Pond with its new fishing pier

Met with county residents to discuss a plan for a roundabout at Tamar Drive and Old Montgomery roads

Appointed Lisa Hetherington Jason Torres and Raza Khan to the Resident Architectural Committee

Appointed Edward Coleman Henry Dagenais Karen Hitcho and Greg Marcinkowski to the Architectural Committee

Last time I asked for your opinion on a new Board member proposal to split many of CAs extra charge to use fitness amenities (eg gyms golf courses) off into a separate entity to manage with the idea that CA would stop subsidizing these with the annual assessment funds Only a few responded but all that did were very in favor of the proposed split

At a July 22nd Merriweather Post concert the grassy area on the north side of Symphony Woods (near LPP) was used for VIP parking for about 75 cars and now dirt car paths are worn into the grassy fields Many are outraged by this

Recently the Board reviewed an environmental report from Staff regarding energy usage and watershed improvements covering what CA has accomplished to date and the next steps CA has made great strides with its own facilities but these fa-cilities in aggregate are small compared to the combined ap-proximately 36000 residences within Columbia The Board thought more should be done sooner to assist our residents in learning what is available (eg energy audits money saving retrofit opportunities rebate programs vetted contractors) Hopefully this resident outreach will accelerate

Columbia is a planned community and several think it should stay that way In the past the Rouse company Howard Re-search and Development (HRD) performed the role of gatekeeper determining what could be developed where The Howard Hughes Company (HHC) now has the authority to do so but their focus is elsewhere and they lack interest in doing so CA the county and HHC have started discussions about what development control is desired is possible and how to implement it

Columbia has special New Town (NT) zoning that enabled the creation of Columbia NT zoning the covenants on the land and the gatekeeper role are complex subjects Currently an open work session on these topics is slated for Sept 18th
