I AM NOT AFRAID THAT THE PEOPLE CALLED METHODISTS SHOULD EVER CEASETO EXIST IN EUROPE OR AMERICA. BUT I AM AFRAID, LEST THEY SHOULD ONLYEXIST AS A DEAD SECT, HAVING THE FORM OF RELIGIONWITHOUT THE POWER.AND THIS UNDOUBTABLY WILL BE THE CASE, UNLESS THEY HOLD FAST BOTHTHE DOCTRINE, SPIRIT AND DISCIPLINE WITH WHICH THEY FIRST SET OUT.
AUGUST 4, 1786
ethodism began as a movementwhose aim was to bring revival
and renewal to a struggling eighteenth cen-tury church. This venture was built upon afoundation of preaching and teaching “plainscriptural religion” and seeking to live with a“holiness of heart and life.” The movement, like its founder John Wesley, was fueled bythe power and presence of the Holy Spirit.
Almost 300 years after the birth of Method-ism, many are praying for this same founda-tion and fuel to return and inspire a new
season of renewal and revival within TheUnited Methodist Church. This is the heartof REVIVE.
REVIVE is a group of committed, enthusiasticIowans working to revive our United MethodistChurch and focused upon glorifying God by:(1) promoting authentic Biblical Christianityfrom a Wesleyan theological perspective, (2)strengthening the vital ministry of localchurches, and (3) providing a strong partner-ship of evangelical clergy and laity workingfor revival of our church.
