II. What Makes A Global Network University Attractive?

Why should we become a global research university?

• Our biggest endowment has been our NYC location

•Globalization forces us to think about our locationalendowment in terms of all of our sites.

II. What Makes A Global Network University Attractive?

The flow of thought will be channeled through a relatively small number of “idea capitals”

Senator Patrick Moynihan, a former US Senator and statesmen used to say, „to make a city great, put a great University in it and wait 200 years”.

II. What Makes A Global Network University Attractive?

Competition - tectonic changes are afoot – new global venues for the best faculty and students.

• 97% of Secondary School Graduates are outside of US• 3 Million in 2006, 7 Million Projected In 2025• Less than 25% studying in the US• This year, the EU surpassed the US in enrolling this pool

America is slipping on the global education scene• Less than 20% have passports.• Less than 1% had enjoyed a study abroad experience• Australia and New Zealand (< 50 univ) enroll more Chinese students than the US (> 4,000 colleges)

III. A Global Network University In Practice

NYU‟s Global Network University is characterized above all by allowing faculty and students to move seamlessly through the network.

Students, faculty and researchers are “in and of the world.”

We‟ve set up the global model, built the infrastructure, and established our institutional priorities.

Next steps:• Understand Teaching, Learning and Research Goals• What Are The Key Business Drivers?
